Ciftci, Stein, and the Audit

560

I’m pleased to read Ronny Deila ask for patience with Nadir Ciftci, the player needs a bit of support right now. Had Nadir knocked a goal or two in against our Icelandic opponents, Stjarnan, he would have been in a different zone at the moment, but he missed a few chances – not uncommon among players newly arrived at a club, and has since found opportunities limited by a domestic suspension.

Dundee United started training after Celtic, so Nadir was behind the curve during those games against Stjarnan. Without a full 90 minutes in a month, he will still have ground to make up when we resume after the international break, but he’ll hopefully feel the benefit of the work he’s put in on the training field in recent weeks.

Remember the Jock Stein Charity Match, which takes place at East End Park, Dunfermline on Sunday, kick-off 2pm. There’s a host of former players are playing, including Tom Boyd, Chris Sutton, Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, Neil Lennon and Stiliyan Petrov, while several from the Hollywood set are also playing, including James McAvoy, Martin Compston and Gianni Capaldi.

Funds from the event go to the Celtic and Dunfermline Foundations. You can pay at the gate to mark the 30th anniversary of Jock’s passing. There’s going to be a lot of memories on that field.

Three years after football fans in Scotland became experts in insolvency law, we now have to become familiar with Serious Organised Crime (I had to look up what it was today). The Scottish Government suggest it involves “drugs, human trafficking and fraud”.

Fraud is one of the small number of crimes where a life imprisonment sentence can be imposed on someone convicted of the crime in Scotland (it carries a maximum of 10 years in England). Even if you were 100% innocent of all charges and the possibility of contamination from dubious characters, the sheer scale of the matters in hand would be an enormous worry.

My hunch is that conspiracies and criminal plans to subvert information are difficult to maintain under the weight of these charges.

I’ve been looking all morning but cannot find what I’m searching for. Does anyone know of an enterprise which operates in the shadow of a Serious Organised Crime investigation which has been able to raise money which didn’t come from the proceeds of Serious Organised Crime?

I’m sure the audit will be just fine.

Noticed the Serbian/ Croatian typo for Simunovic and hoped that Derk was another one, but checked the UEFA website and there he is (and Jozo is Croatian)

  3. I’m assuming Derk is now fit and available for selection, or have we loaned out every other young player who might have made the squad?

  4. glendalystonsils on

What happened to us paying off Derk?

Even if it was going to cost more than his wages up to the January transfer window or, Heaven forbid, to the end of the season, it would have been worth it to get rid of a complete passenger.

Unless Ronny’s thinking of actually playing him. Bizarre.

  5. I thought players under the age of (its either 18 or 21) who have been trained by the club for 2 or more years dont have to be included within the 23 squad list..?

  8. CELTIC FC Travel will announce travel options for a day trip to Molde by 6pm tonight. We are also reviewing options for an overnight trip to Fenerbahçe and will update supporters as soon as possible.

Matches in Amsterdam have presented difficulties for fans in the past and at this point, Celtic FC Travel are reviewing the suitability of an official fan charter to our UEFA Europa League fixture against Ajax on September 17.

Club officials will visit with Ajax, British Consul and local police early next week to review operational planning for the match.

Following these meetings the Club will announce its plans on whether it will provide an official fan charter. In all cases, the safety and security of our supporters is paramount and this will be the determining factor.

A final decision will be made by close of business on Tuesday, September 8.

Celtic FC Travel apologise to fans for the delay. However, we hope that you understand our need to ensure that we are satisfied with all security arrangements prior to going on sale.

  9. Nadir Cifti deserves a chance – we know he can ‘cut it’ domestically – give him a season to develop.

The three frontmen we have are different in style to each other – that’s good – maybe Stokesy will rediscover his scoring touch.

We are not as strong up front as we would like to be – that’s life “you can’t always get what you want”

There WILL be a ‘get out jail free’ card played in the latest fiasco – history, in this bigoted little country, tell us so.

Sevco/Rangers are essential in Scotland, always have been, always will be.

  10. Has the real Rangers Football Club been officially Liquidated yet? Seems to be taking an awful long time?

  11. Paul67 et al

Of course Ronny should not have to ask supporters to give Ciftci time, but given our recent record of signing “strikers” it probably makes sense. Not that Nadir will get time from some on here mind. But remember Fulham turned down £10 million for Ross McCormack a week or so back and I doubt if he would have proved the answer for us. I have faith that Ciftci will do well for us, whereas while I had high hopes for Pukki, Scepovic, Balde et al I had little or no foreknowledge of those players. Know a bit about Nadir though, not all good, but have seen him up close a few times and he does bring something different to the team. Think he will be a success for Celtic.

  12. embramike says "the Huns are Deid" on

Interesting that our Europa League group opponents have connections to our squad.

Ajax sold us Derk Who, so surely due them one for that alone.

Fenerbahce have signed Van Persie and Nani from Man U, so our recent signings Janko and Blackett have trained/played with them many times. Also Cifcti played briefly for Kayserispor who also play in the Turkish Süper Lig .

Molde play in the Norwegian Tippeligaen, a league that our manager knows a great deal about.

Background knowledge about our Group A opponents should not be a problem.

  13. ODI just about to start , but according to David Gower engerland have no willy, , don’t know how he knows -can’t tell when they’re wearing a box

  14. I hope Ciftci comes good, I think he might.

I think he will be an improvement on Scepovic. Who admittedly didn’t get much of chance and got into decent positions to score but was rarely found by his team mates. However, his touch and pace seemed poor to me.

Quite early on in Ciftci’s first game against Stjarnan, he took the ball in with his back to goal, got off and nice little turn and shot which their keeper did really well to save. At the time, I thought he has good feet for a big guy.

In the Qarabag game at home, I remember him racing past of their defenders who had a good 2m to 3m head start to win a ball he had no right to. So he is pacey as well.

I think he has shown glimpses of his quality. Thankfully, we didn’t bring a panic loan signing, so he should have plenty of game time to show what he can do.

Word of warning, I work with a Dundee Utd fan who rates him highly but did say he can’t head a ball for toffee! Consequently, I have a good pal who is Hibee and can’t believe how good Griffiths is with his head these days!

PS – Rogic really is like a new signing  Fingers crossed he can say injury free!

  15. Just read the article on Stokes. Seems we were willing to let him leave even though Michu and Fletcher were never gonna happen and Scepovic was getting loaned out regardless. My take on that is we will sign someone in the January window because Griff and Ciftci wont be enough and Stokes, well,Derks in front of him for a jersey…That says it all really..just my thoughts…..

But signing older experienced players within budget that is not part of the develop and sell policy is my point.

Perhaps it should be, a point I saw Barcabhoy raising last week.

Are there many of that ilk around in the UK (The Malmo chap is Scandinavian with a connection that I think we want such a player to have or make) .

Perhaps there are but I’ve no more idea than I suspect you have.

I don’t know if its because there are none around, they cost too much, don’t want to play in Scotland , what briefs our scouts follow. If we had that info on approaches we would be more informed about the factors at play and I don’t want to rush to judge without that information.

On that score I think the lack of that kind of info is cause of much of the debate and I’ve sent a suggestion to The Celtic View that they have a Celtic Business Section where policies etc can be set out and informed debate on its merits can then ensue.

  23. Serious Organised Crime

Well I think that if you’re going to get involved in crime you should do it properly and not in some sort of facetious and disorganised way. :-)

  24. The purpose of having a big man up front is it gives you an out ball, a target to aim for who will hold the ball up giving others the chance to move up the park etc.

If said person hits the deck as soon as he feels someone breathing on him then the purpose is unfulfilled.

Can someone please have a work with Mr Cifti and tell him to cut out the hun like theatrics and play the game in the Celtic manner.

  25. Celtic TV

Here is part of a post from the wee hours on my meeting with the Celtic TV people yesterday for those who watch games live mainly.

The observations are my own but if you are a watcher like I tend to be during most of the season I think you should read it. There’s a wee bit techie stuff too but in a language I hope simplifies things. I’d love to hear feedback but observe that when it comes to paying our way I don’t get a lot. That might just mean I’m an odd man out but I can handle that, rather proud of it actually.

    =================================

On my meeting with Celtic TV: what I came away with is what I went in with.

Those who can watch games live from overseas (including me) are getting the service far too cheap compared to ST holders.

The obvious answer is to raise prices but with streaming as a no cost alternative that would have a negative impact.

If something is not done to level out price to watch across the support base and supporters do not understand that if you watch for free (but can afford to pay) you are stealing from your fellow supporter not Celtic, then there will be no Celtic TV to watch.

That is my personal assessment not what was said to me, but I have more worries about the effect on Celtic TV of Kodi and an uneven price structure than I had about the millennium proofing I was responsible for delivering to the Government Department I worked for.

A Membership scheme seems to be the answer but its a huge project to get buy in and then develop.

Other things techie that came out: Although Celtic TV pump out the million of bits that make up the moving pixels that turn into Broonie on your screen that should provide a decent picture on a viewers PC, it is invariably a local issue that create difficulties at the viewers end. (Hence the need for a Help Desk).

Some difficulties are with the PC on the receiving end where it simply might not be able to handle Broonie arriving at a rate of knots at its graphics card decoder. Update the video drivers might help, getting a newer PC will.

This next one though is outside Celtic TV and the end viewers control and its local traffic management by your ISP.

Basically they own/rent only so much fat pipe to send the bits through to all PCS connected to them say normally 10 PCs via 10 channels in the pipe, each channel full to capacity delivering the bits Celtic TV pumped out for a smooth clear picture.

If you are in an area where there are 20 PCs and they are all wanting served at the same time (no one is off somewhere) then to do so the ISP will have to halve the number of bits delivered to each PC because that is all the fat pipe can hold over 20 channels . The channels increase in number but have to shrink in size.

This is where you get buffering and the answer is not to live in a neighbourhood with more than 10 Tims subscribing to Celtic TV if you like to rant at a screen on your own or cut their ISP cable.

Its amazing what you find out when you talk to folk.

  26. Nadir Ciftci deserves a chance to show how good he is in a Celtic jersey.

Personally I thought he did well in a poor Dundee United side.

I’d seen enough of Cifci at Utd to see why Celtic bought him.

I haven’t seen enough at Celtic to pass judgement, but my feeling and hope is that he is being as misjudged as Charlie Muldrew was when he came from Aberdeen and although not at the top of his game right now Charlie has been a good Celtic player.
