Club-by-club consequence of closed door games

187

The club-by-club consequence if the league programme goes ahead behind closed doors:

Livingston will lose two home games, against Dundee and St Johnstone. Ross County will lose two, against Aberdeen and Motherwell.  Although financially, Livi are on the brink, I’m not convinced the net result of their or Ross County’s games being postponed will be particularly damaging to either club.

Hibs will lose a lucrative derby game against Hearts, lots of away ticket revenue and hospitality refunds on the line.  The same is true for Dundee, who have a derby game against United.  Both should want fixtures postponed.

Aberdeen would have to refund thousands of Newco fans, an expense they could well do without.  They would also have to refund some hundreds of Dundee fans.  They should also want fixtures postponed.

Hearts have St Johnstone, who take few fans, the only real cost here would be their (valuable) hospitality sales.  They also have the incentive of playing at an Empty Easter Road.  They are also Hearts…..  could go either way.

Dundee United have St Mirren, which is likely to be cancelled anyway, and Hibs.  Like Hearts, they have the incentive of playing away to a rival in an empty stadium.  Could go either way.

St Mirren today requested the postponement of tomorrow’s game against Celtic and Sunday’s game against Newco.  This request will be upheld, no matter what happens to the rest of the fixtures, but, surely, suffering as they are, they will support postponement?

Newco would be unaffected by Ms Sturgeon’s decision.  Celtic stand to lose two gates, against Hibs and Newco.  It would cost a substantial amount of money and affect the club more than any other.

Celtic’s request to postpone fixtures is unarguable, but we know how Scotland works; anything could happen.

  1. St.Mirren by virtue of their request have confirmed they are a high risk area, why then should Celtic take the players there which in contradictory to the “take all precautions” rule.

Game should be off,and I say that with 3 tickets.

  2. Does the science say the Omicron virus will just wait until the 27th. ?

If the games are played with 500 persons in attendance then how many will make their way to the pubs to watch it.

Not many people go to the pub in cars , so public transport it is.

    Makes perfect sense to me.

The only question will be : After this ” Lockdown ” when will be the next occasion we need to ” Flatten the curve ” ? After the 4th jag perhaps ?

  3. Can you imagine a team of staff from Microsoft being forced to meet staff from Morgan Stanley, during a pandemic?

  4. How many St Mirren players have been fully vaccinated?

Once we know, we can make an educational assessment on rights and wrongs, including compensation.

  5. so they are wanting us to play the game in high risk situation , so what happens if someone from our club picks up the virus tomorrow night and we are generally stuffed..

  6. Burnley78,

I think that dude is best ignored.

He was being nasty towards those who dinnae want to get continually vaccinated. If You are vaccinated be secure in your decision and dinnae blame others for collapsing the NHS. We should All know how the MSM/SMSM works by now.

I’ve given him the benefit of the doubt but he is just a sh!t Stirrer.

  10. Say a member of staff,a player, at St Mirren or Celtic had underlying health condition, asthma ,diabetes, for example ,why should they be forced into a work situation, that can be easily avoided, and may cause them greater harm?

  14. Long read back of 2 heavy articles but the most breathtaking post for me is from a usual critic of Paul:

JAMES FORREST – You’ve sworn off this site multiple times but like a smitten stalker, you always return for ‘a hit’.

Re your point; ‘…either proof that the writer hasn’t got the first clue what he’s talking about or he’s deliberately spreading disinformation…’ I had the exact same feeling when your site published a dumb piece asserting – like know-nothings in the anti-Celtic tabloids – that ‘let’s face it, this guy (Ange) should be nowhere near this job.’

Editorially you marked yourself as a busted flush right then. But you come on here and denigrate Paul for opinions you think ain’t quite up to your snuff!! How you can attend those fan meeja pressers without a huge brasser or guilt for how you and your site dissed and dismissed Ange is totally beyond the pale.

I see you’re cheering the Boss on now, tho, after painting him as some sorta fitba’ rube; whit a riddy!

Ange’s growing success with us renders your ‘colosally uninformed’ jibe as peak irony.

In the season for the faith-full, I hope it’s a good one for you and that Santa brings you sacks of humility, editorial respect and goodwill to all fellow bloggers. HH

BTW Boli selfishly did us wrong. But I feel the club’s grudge held against him – our best LB – is churlish and should stop.

  15. Evening Hoops Fans. I’m not going to get into the Covid vaccine debate, but here FYI is the latest info for one State in the U.S., the State of Michigan ( where I went to University many years ago ). I have not added any comment. The information speaks for itself.

Michigan has lost hundreds to COVID in one week as officials expect Omicron to sweep state.

In the seven-day period that ended December 9, Michigan had a total of 756 recorded COVID deaths.

“That’s over 100 people every day, in one week, who won’t be here to celebrate the holidays or ring in the new year,” Elizabeth Hertel, director of the state health agency, said. “And there could be hundreds or thousands more who won’t be at our tables next year.”

Governor Gretchen Whitmer said during a news conference in Grand Rapids that the Omicron variant is already the dominant strain in the U.S. and is expected to sweep through Michigan rapidly in the near future.

“I have come to appreciate the fact that because this virus is mutating and it’s spreading so quickly, every one of us is likely going to have some exposure at some point,” Whitmer said. “What is our goal? To stay out of the hospital and to stay alive. And the best way to do that is through vaccination and through being boosted.”

Hertel said the state’s positivity rate has gone down to 16.2 percent, but that is still too high. Hertel said that people who were unvaccinated or partially vaccinated were 85.1 percent of the state’s recorded COVID cases, 88.1 percent of its COVID-related hospitalizations, and 85.5 percent of COVID-related deaths from January 15 to December 3.

Much remains unknown about the Omicron variant, including whether it causes more or less severe illness than previous strains. Early studies suggest that the vaccinated will need a booster shot for the best chance at preventing Omicron infection, but that even without the extra dose, vaccination still should offer strong protection against severe illness and death, health officials said.

Health officials on Tuesday asked anyone who is eligible to get vaccinated to do so, if not to save their own lives but to save those of people who are the most in danger if they catch COVID-19 or who can’t get vaccinated.

Dr. Shelley Schmidt, a pulmonary and critical care doctor at Spectrum Health, talked about the daily experience of watching children crying over a dead parent and severely sick or dying parents asking doctors what more they could have done for their children and spouses?

“Since the beginning of this pandemic, I have never taken care of a patient dying from the vaccine,” Schmidt said. “I have taken care of dozens and dozens who are dead from this virus.”

Whitmer didn’t say whether the state could expect a return of mask mandates like those seen earlier in the pandemic, but she encouraged people to wear them and Hertel suggested people should upgrade the quality of the ones they wear.

“Our focus has to be on making sure that people get boosted and the unvaccinated get vaccinated, and that our kids get vaccinated,” Whitmer said. “Sweeping mandates are less likely to influence and encourage that population to get vaccinated.”

  16. Could Celtic become the first Scottish team, the first British team, the first non-Latin team to win the European Cup . . .

  17. Our defence is getting there.

Nir Bitton is playing well, obviously not a fan favourite but he has been freed to play. He’s been excellent.

The Cheats need of £40M + is greater.

With the vaccine/Control measures this is my Last Season being controlled.

Aidan can go with his pals and have a session now.

  18. IniquitousIV,

Hopefully this weak variant kills it.

    I think it will.

  20. I don’t see the danger to our lads in playing tomorrow night. Whatever team St Mirren put out will have tested negative throughout tand not be deemed close contacts.

If they can field a side, any side, the game should proceed. As was the case with us last January.

  21. Brilliant documentary on the lisbon lions

Proud of those that went before me

Our revenge will be the laughter of our children
