Commercial consequences of Ramsden

717

The commercial consequences of Sunday’s Ramsdens’ Cup Final result didn’t occur to me until Celtic released season ticket news yesterday.  Over the years, when possible, Celtic and Rangers released season ticket renewal notices on the back of a favourable result.

As well as a party at Ibrox on Sunday night, the wheels would have been ready to roll with photographs of newly acquired silverware and a plea from the most expensive failed-yet-retained manager in history to renew early.  There may even have been a price increase this year, slipped in amid the feel-good factor.

There has been a lot of talk about how critical season ticket sales are to Newco Rangers but we are no different.  The circa 40,000 people who commit to support Celtic each season are the rock bed upon which all plans are made.  Sure, Champions League money is critical, but without this volume of season ticket sales there would be no Champions League money.  The season ticket is the Badge of Honour in Scottish football, during these critical years more than any other time.

In 2012 when we campaigned to deny a new club access to an elevated position in Scottish football we did so in the knowledge that competition in the league would be different going forward.  This was our preference.  While actual attendances have often been below season ticket levels I know that to a man, woman and child, everyone who pitches up to watch Celtic appreciates being apart from the scourge which afflicted us for so many years.  This is the way I like my football, long may it last.

  2. Hi Paul,

Fully agree with the following in your article,

“I know that to a man, woman and child, everyone who pitches up to watch Celtic appreciates being apart from the scourge which afflicted us for so many years. This is the way I like my football, long may it last.”

I just hope that Peter and the board heed that sentiment before getting involved in any “joint ventures” with sevco at any time in the future.

What could possibly be gained by an association with that mob of cheats, bigots, thugs and spivs?.

No amount of money would be an acceptable excuse.

” PSG only have themselves to blame. They were totally unprepared for Chelsea s primitive approach to the game..Mourinho made a lot of comments before the game re Chelsea lacking strikers but on the evidence of the 2 games v PSG , it might be more accurate to say that, Hazard apart, Chelsea lack footballers. ” .

If there are hundreds of broken seats why did the Aberdeen fan not take pictures of them and post them on social network sites?

If they have been broken since Sunday where is the evidence?

Why would the Hibernian fans not be outraged at the damage to their ground and make it known to everyone?

I’m not saying it didn’t happen because that mob have form but I find it hard to believe in this day and age that photos of any damage wouldn’t be on Twitter or similar by now.

Can you ask the Aberdeen fan in your work if someone has photo proof?

My Hibernian correspondent sits in the area where the Raith fans were and there was no damage and never heard of any damage elsewhere in the pub afterwards.

You are missing the point I am trying to make, and that is you are now worldly wise and educated.

When I was young, I did daft things I am not proud of, I certainly wouldn’t do the same today, like you.

I have noticed a few going on about him being 23 and should know better, agreed if you have had a decent education and proper guidance, which from where I sit, that has been lacking.

I know/knew a few teachers who tear their hair out when told that they have to concentrate on the kids that have a chance, and basicly ignore those who are deemed to have no chance, now I am not saying that is happening everywhere, but that’s what they told me, they don’t work in Catholic schools BTW, and they have no reason to lie.

We are never going to agree on this, sadly.

As for me being a yes voter having similarities with the fleg protesters in Belfast ? i fear the simple concept of independence from westminster is beyond your abilities, the clue is in the flegs

    ===

I have a full understanding of the divorce debate (lets call it what it is). The premise being that some people currently residing in Scotland do not like the fact that the centralized Westminster government may or may not represent the wishes of Scottish society as a whole, i guess the people of Yorkshire have similar issues, and numerous examples of the UK governments bias in favor of Southern England are regularly posted here.

Now in a democracy every eligible citizen gets a vote, a choice of who they would like to see govern the country. The party that wins the most seats wins the election and governs – a very very simple concept. The SNP and Scots Nats are not happy with this because they claim the democratically elected government of the entire UK doesn’t concentrate on matters pertaining to Scotland. Now in my own estimation that is fairly close to the Fleg protesters complaints, democracy isn’t working because the majority of those elected to government do not put our interests at the top of their agenda. Anyone for a wee bit of Gerrymandering!
