Commercial consequences of Ramsden

717

The commercial consequences of Sunday’s Ramsdens’ Cup Final result didn’t occur to me until Celtic released season ticket news yesterday.  Over the years, when possible, Celtic and Rangers released season ticket renewal notices on the back of a favourable result.

As well as a party at Ibrox on Sunday night, the wheels would have been ready to roll with photographs of newly acquired silverware and a plea from the most expensive failed-yet-retained manager in history to renew early.  There may even have been a price increase this year, slipped in amid the feel-good factor.

There has been a lot of talk about how critical season ticket sales are to Newco Rangers but we are no different.  The circa 40,000 people who commit to support Celtic each season are the rock bed upon which all plans are made.  Sure, Champions League money is critical, but without this volume of season ticket sales there would be no Champions League money.  The season ticket is the Badge of Honour in Scottish football, during these critical years more than any other time.

In 2012 when we campaigned to deny a new club access to an elevated position in Scottish football we did so in the knowledge that competition in the league would be different going forward.  This was our preference.  While actual attendances have often been below season ticket levels I know that to a man, woman and child, everyone who pitches up to watch Celtic appreciates being apart from the scourge which afflicted us for so many years.  This is the way I like my football, long may it last.

  8. Its a real shame we are letting the media infer Griffiths sung racist songs when their is no actual proof any where that he sung the second song, just proof he sung the first song. Further a lot of people often support players who play very badly for us for many games yet we are all willing to kick lee when he is down even though he has played very well for us, and all because he sung the hearts are going burst? Seriously we become more of a police state by the day, the Daily Records agenda shows exactly what is instore for catholic and atheist Celtic fans alike if we vote for independence.

What would you consider to be in store for us if we vote for independence? As an even more disadvantage than the present Tory spiv government like?

What I’m saying I suppose is why would you, with a name like “antifa” vote in the block together with the entire demographic of loyalist roasters that declare “Naw”?

And do you think the “Daily Record agenda” will disappear if we turn our backs on independence?

I obviously cannot vote in the referedum, but I think it is very wrong and completely disingenuous of people to use religious and sectarian scaremongering in support of a no vote.

I have been reading back and couldn’t believe that someone on CQN had posted that of all the SNP MSPs in Holyrood “only 4 went to Catholic schools”.

We read that sort of stuff in FollowFollow and RangersMedia on a regular basis and we laugh at it, and rightly so. When I read similar nonsense on CQN, I’m afraid it is no laughing matter.

I thiught we were above that sort of crap.

    I will be voting YES.

I understand rich people who will vote No due to economic reasons. Just like rich greedy people vote Tory. Doesn’t make it right.

It’s sad to hear people voting for Unionism because they imagine that Catholics will somehow have a worse time. Weird how anti-Catholic voters will join Catholics in maintaining the status quo.

The Daily Record like all of the media owned by rich tories are anti-Independence.

  19. ah gold cost tom linking what I say to some other posters comment. They might be similar but distinict too but re-read my words and any non liar nationalist type will see I neither try to scaremonger not use “sectarianism” to garner support for a no vote, I just hold up examples like the Daily record and the “offensive behaviour” bill as evidence of what Catholic and atheist Celtic fans alike can expect more of if we vote “YES”. They key word being “Celtic fan” not “Catholic” or “Atheist”. Nice try any way.

No point debating with Nazionalists sure a bunch of Cretins for rangers ultra loyalism might vote NO, that doesn’t mean its a good idea to vote, yes. Your enemies enemy isn’t always your friend. OFBF act proves that.

  20. Morrissey the 23rd on

    Living_in_the_Love_of_the_Commons_People @ 04:37

You’d be very disappointed. I don’t think independence will happen. Too many people don’t even realise it is not a vote for SNP. The anti-independence propaganda is continual and nasty, yet seems to be working.

“Retaining values is important. This doesn’t mean we become pious, but we uphold views and educate, if possible. To encourage learning in people is one of our club’s four stated values (improve health, encourage equality and tackle poverty being the others). Education starts at home, after disciplinary issues are dealt with, but we will not be dictated to by the Daily Record.”

Well said Paul, that’s exactly the kind of unequivable statement I would like to have seen coming from Celtic FC.
