CQN 11 Knocking it out the park

1030

Where to start on last night’s CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner?  We knocked it out the park.  Hundreds came, thousands of pounds were raised, enough to help Mary’s Meals build a kitchen for a thousand more school kids in Malawi, and a £5,000 donation to Lisa Hague’s 30k Challenge for Marie Curie Challenge for Cancer Care.

My sincere thanks to everyone who came along and made the night so special, especially those who stepped forward and helped Mary’s Meals and Lisa’s Challenge.  The night could not have happened without Phil Agnew’s experience, work and charm.  He is a credit to everything good about the Celtic support.

Special thanks to Tom Boyd, John Hughes, Joe Miller and Tommy Coyne, who added range to the night at the Q&A session.  Thanks to Stuart Armstrong, who dropped in to spend an hour with us, and share some of his undisguised joy at being a Celtic player.

Archie Macpherson spoke about the world Jock Stein blew apart when he arrived at Celtic 50 years ago this week.  Archie’s range on Scottish football is peerless.  He became a friend and confidant of Jock, and gave us an insight into the extraordinary man.

No St Patrick’s Night would be complete without great music and for that our thanks to Patricia Ferns and Liam McGrandles, and a special mention those who put their shoulder to the wheel on the night, especially Geo from Biglens and the great hospitality staff at Celtic.

I’ve many people to catch up with but I’m planning to sleep for the next several days.  Cup Final apart.

If all weekends were like this weekend………
If all gatherings were like Celtic gatherings……….

To everyone going to the game, have a great time watching what will hopefully be one of many trophies under Ronny’s reign. I had a ticket, but gave it to a mate due to family commitments. :-(

Hope Broony scores and the Hampden PA plays Sit Down by James!

All good points chum. You’re probably right.

I think those that are paid to brief against us in the meeja attend to the urgent requirements of their infernal soul mates.

    HH.

  3. Morning all, I am arriving at Central station in half an hour or so planning to jump in a taxi towards the vicinity of Hampden.

Been a few years since I was in that area, can anyone advise where to ask the taxi driver to drop me, preferably a location to have a thirst quencher but not to long a walk to the stadium.

  4. Some folk should take their constant negativity elsewhere,we all have a wee moan now and then but some can’t help themselves

Brazen Head sounds like a good shout, somewhere else I haven’t been for a couple of years.

    Be there around 12.30.

I met you briefly in Amsterdam least with Tiny Tim and Johan Murdoch, if you want we can join bmcw in the international on our way up to the stadium

  12. Has Nir decided IF he is going to play yet?!!

Got to admire the lads coolness about it all!

    Id know!

Have any of you tried to play with something you shouldn’t?

I will rephrase that…..with an injury that really should have kept you out?

    Ive got 2 that i can remember…..

Broken wrist…..was in a stooky but had my shirt sleeve pulled right down in the hope the ref wouldn’t notice.

Nearly got away with it until just before centre.

You know how refs do that final quick look about to make sure everyones ready?

The git clocked my big thick arm under my sleeve and came over to see me.

He said……you cannae play with that son pointing to my arm.

I told him i was ok and that it was coming off next week and gave him a big smile and reassured him that i would be fine.

He said it wasn’t me that he was worried about and that it was the other players getting whacked with it that he was concerned about.

I tried to reassure him that i would be REALLY careful but strangely he was having none of it and didn’t let me play……spoilsport.

Another time i tried to get a game it was my manager that stopped me.

We only had 10 men and i was trying to convince him to play me.

The only thing was i had about 20 stitches in my side from front to back where i hed been opened up for a kidney op 2 weeks before.

I was trying to do little shuttles on the park to show my manager that i could run and could just take up a position out on the wing and maybe at least annoy another player or force him to mark me.

Strangely my manager declined my offer and went with the 10 men option muttering something like he wisnae having me on his conscience.

Think if i was Nir……i MIGHT play today.

  13. My friends in Celtic,

    COYBIG.

Scott Brown along with CG would always be the first names on my team-sheet. All this crap ( And some from Celtic supporters ) is ridiculous.

PC, opinionated, permanently outraged and moralistic brigade in full flow.

He had a deserved night out days before a big game. Seemingly this is totally out of character for him. God forbid, Its not as if he was :-

Cruff, Socrates, Berbatov, Rooney, Zidane, Ardiles, or Vialli who committed the most unprofessional of acts and smoked.

Or Best, Gascoigne, Maradona, Jinky, Garrincha, Adams, Adriano or Greaves. who liked a drink on a regular basis.

I make no comment on what became of the above players after their playing careers had ended, but no doubt they could play.

    Give the bhoy a break.

    HH.

  14. Embramike –

1965 v Dunfermline was my first cup final as well, and like you, I remember the occasion very clearly. However, my first League Cup final came in October that year when we beat Rangers 2-1 thanks to 2 first half penalties despatched by big John “Yogi” Hughes.

That was the day the Huns invaded the pitch and attacked the Celtic players as they enjoyed their lap of honour, the last one allowed at Hampden for many years as a result of the horrible behaviour of the Ibrox hordes.

    4-1 Celtic today.

    Hail Hail.

  15. Polis stopping and searching buses at Harthill and Stepps. If you’re on any bus stopped politely point out that they have no right to search buses in excess of two hours before KO.

  16. Kittoch

He was fantastic on that state of a pitch in the semi against the sevconians even though they are a mickey mouse club.

It is a big park and there is plenty of room to get the ball down and play.

With a better surface today i think he will shine again and control the game.

He has really grown with confidence as well and has started showing a bit of gallusness which was something i really hoped he would develop.

The confidence to boss to say……give me that….im bossing this game…..

I think he is now almost like Nero realising he is the one :)

Well……maybe not but he has definitely made that position HIS.

  17. bankiebhoy1

I always like to make sure they are aware of the intricacies of their own ridiculous laws :-)

  18. Good to see our taxes being well spent by police scotland searching buses.

    Hun believable….

  19. If Nir is out I would use Johansen in there, he played that role well for Norway. Go with…

    Gordon

    Matthews. The Virgil Bros. Izzy

    SB. SJ

    Wee James. KC. Wiggy

    Daftie

    That’ll do for me…..

Embramike – Like both of you my first cup final was 1965 v Dunfermline. It is one of my clearest memories of a Celtic game, can still see big Billy running up for the corner at 2-2.

Asked last night for son who works in Witney, anybody know anywhere there or in Oxford showing the game.

  21. Off for a pint before the game.

Every Cup Final is capable of ending in a win or defeat so it is best to travel hopefully no matter who the opposition. I expect and predict a win. I will not be crying and scapegoating should we lose, well unless Scott Brown sits down in the middle of the pitch and starts eating pizza…

    Enjoy the experience

  22. If Nir doesn’t make it I would prefer Liam beside Broonie.

    Two reasons.

One, we would lose a lot of what Stefan gives us as one of the three and two, Liam plays the position better in my opinion.

  23. In the Brazen at the moment with malorbhoy, going to head closer to Hampden, BMCUW, if you are around the international bar still, we are heading your direction.
