We had our 11th annual CQN Charity Golf Open at Aberdour in Fife yesterday and it was another brilliant occasion. £2000 was raised for good causes, including a local Aberdour need, Tommy Burns’ Charity and the Celtic Foundation.
My thanks to the Joe Miller, who regaled us with tales of Maradona, Jinky and Sugar Roy Aitken. The buzz he got from playing for Celtic is clear. The day wouldn’t be possible without Taggsybhoy and BlantyreKev, but it takes an entire crowd to make special nights like this, so thanks to each of you.
This afternoon’s game against Rennes is an important step towards getting the players fully fit but the 90 minutes have to be balanced against the Champions League qualifier on Wednesday. I expect Ronny will ask the players the burn the flame brightly for a short period, before making lots of changes.

Working on the basis that predicting something ensures it cannot happen, I’m off to the bookie’s to place a wager on:
a) Sepp Blatter being re-elected to run FIFA
b) Donald Trump becoming next U.S. president
The odds are shortening…………..
Good morning CQN
CQN used to be a place were some of us went to escape tabloid crap about Celtic, now we negtive propaganda gets regurgitated daily by posters shouting hey look at this negative story on Celtic thereby giving much oxygen and revenue to our detractors…………why ????

Huge game on Wednesday already starting to get nervous………..
Captain: We’re ready for Qarabag challenge
By: Paul Cuddihy on 26 Jul, 2015 11:01
IT might have been billed as a pre-season friendly, but it was still a competitive contest on the pitch. There might have been a couple of challenges that Scott Brown wasn’t happy about, but he’s still hoping that a tough game against French side, Rennes, will prove beneficial come Wednesday night when the Hoops play host to FK Qarabag in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League.
Ronny Deila’s side won the friendly match 2-0 thanks to first-half goals from Leigh Griffiths and Gary Mackay-Steven, and the Celtic captain believes the victory was well-deserved, particularly on the basis of the team’s first-half display.
The Celtic manager made wholesale changes to the team for the second-half, but both Celtic line-ups ensured it was another win for the Hoops against Rennes, having beaten them back in 2011 in the Europa League.
“I thought we conducted ourselves really well and played well, particularly in the first-half,” Brown said after the match.
“I did think the challenge on Gary Mackay-Steven was quite bad. There are always going to be challenges but it was a friendly so there was no need to raise elbows.
“We wanted it to be competitive, especially with the game coming on Wednesday. We know what we’re going to get there. It’s going to be similar and we’ve just got to go out and do as well as we possibly can.
“It’s always going to be hard playing a good team, but the performance against Rennes will hopefully give us a boost.”
Griffiths’ 12th minute goal was the striker’s fifth in three games, coming hot on the heels of a hat-trick last weekend against SD Eibar and then a goal in midweek – his first in Europe for the club – against FC Stjarnan.
And the Celtic captain is confident that, if called upon on Wednesday night, Griffiths can add to his goals tally.
“You show him a goal and he’ll score, whether it’s 20 yards or two yards,” Brown said. “He’s always in the right place at the right time as well.
“His goal shows what he’s got in his locker. As soon as he gets on his left foot he’s great and we’ve got a lot of faith in him and he’s scored so many goals for us, so it’s for us to have him doing well.”
Now the Celtic team will train on Monday and Tuesday before their vital Euro tie on Wednesday night, knowing just how important the match and their continued progress in the UEFA Champions League is.
“We’ve worked on defending from the front and tightening up at the back and we’ve done that pretty well in the past few games,” he said.
“These are huge games right at the start of the season which mean so much to the club and hopefully this season it was the right decision to stay at home.”
Whether you love or loath PL and the Celtic board, the one thing we should all know with absolute certainty is this…….
if VVD is sold, our people will extract the absolute maximum price for the player. History tells us this, if nothing else!

Not sure I agree mhate.
I think the EPL market could have allowed us to squeeze a few £M more for Victor and FF

Love to see the hoops at other sporting events, the Carl froch one being one of the better ones and it drives the Warburtonites up the wall so everyone’s a winner

Judging by the website, ticket sales for Wed are slow.
V disappointing!
My wife took the opportunity to get one for my niece and, because of what seems like poor ST take up, it’s right beside us. £12.
Is there any young fans you could get a ticket for?

PS – my niece is very excited!

How much would you say Wanyama, for example, was worth? I recall being very happy with the fee when I heard it. Ditto Forster.
Still, all about opinions!
Thought we were an open to all club.
Seems as though fatties aint welcome :-) (with the hoops on )
Is that weightist or just anti pear shaped :-)

I’d hoped for an extra £2m ish for Victor and extra £2-3m for FF.
I say that with absolutely no qualifications or experience in these matters and as a complete armchair CEO!

Why would ticket sales be less than the icelanders?
It was a good crowd against them and how we are up against stiffer opposition so I would hope we’ll get 50,000+.
Well done Roger Federer.
Bamboo.
Tickets for Icelanders was on season book mate. You have to pay for this round if you are a season book holder.
50 shades of green
Well I got an extra ticket – because I made a mess of the booking.
A good turn out is required for what should be a much tougher test.
morning everybody, has anyone bought a new home kit in the childrens sizes? what are the sizes like, my soon-to-be-seven-year-old is being bought a new home kit for his birthday by his grandparents and i was wondering how they come up – he’s very small for his age and the last 6-7 nike home kit swamped him a bit.

Shorter notice and cost probably.

I was at the ticket office on Friday to get season books changed. The first two I bought were too high up for my old man, stairs to steep and dangerous for someone has age.
Anyway the guy in office couldn’t have been more helpful. I couldn’t get two seats together in the North stand or Jock Stein, unless they were right down the front or up the very back. Eventually took two that are four seats apart.
Looks like sales are good, high 40s I’d guess.

Someone posted last night that there were only restricted view tickets left. I don’t know if this is accurate or not.
Has everybody flounced off?
Just got tickets in the middle of 105- not looking great take up so far
Take up might be weather dependent, also TV dependent, if it’s no on telly there might be a last minute rush

I’m in the North Stand Upper and whenever I buy online it says restricted view. The only restriction is my failing eyesight and the distance from the pitch, certainly no immovable obstructions.
Had a look at the stadium plan. At the moment, 30-40k looks the likely outcome. Both surprising and disappointing. Nearly 50K against Stjarnan. Does having to pay lead to such a difference?
Anyway, have to go,
Cheerio,

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT QARABAG
BakuPatrick, our man in the East, gives us the lowdown on Qarabag, our next European opponents….
The season starts here on 8th August so fitness levels are similar to Celtic
The current squad consists of 4 Brazilians, Spaniard, Dutchman, Moroccan, Bosnian and the rest Azeris. The main thrust of attack tends to be down the left side of play to Brazilian mid-fielder Richard and then looking for another Brazilian centre forward Reynaldo in and around the box.
Gara Garayev and Joshgun Diniev are two Azeri defensive midfielders and can put it about when required to break up play.Defensively they are very strong and are not frightened to put a foot in when necessary although they can be a theatrical in response to challenge.
Bosnian Goalkeeper Sehic is a fine shot stopper but has the odd wobble moment which can install panic at the back. He is particularly susceptible to upset against a robust forward at crosses.
The back four also like time on the ball and again can be upset by being closed down quickly. The whole team can be prone to switching off for 5 or 10 minutes and then finishing the game strongly.
So much for Qarabag, the similarities of a rich history, being a peoples club supported by a displaced diaspora, a young ambitious manager playing an attractive style of play, filled with predominantly local players. What’s not to like. The local fans are excited by the draw as they feel they are facing one of the most famous clubs in the world and that they are in with a great chance of progress.
Make no mistake they feel they can beat us over two legs. They normally play a similar style home or away and they are confident they will get a goal at Parkhead. We will need to be at the top of our game and take our chances as they come.
Brown and Bitton will be crucial in imposing themselves in midfield and we must be wary of their speed in breaking. My only concern would be the left back position and I would choose Izaguirre over Mulgrew. But then I don’t pick the team.
CELTIC SKIPPER BACKS GRIFFITHS…http://www.cqnmagazine.com/?p=6645
Think the biggest single factor in the take up of tickets is having to do something….
Most of us now have ST’s and seldom need to do anything, other than turn up. having to get to the Ticket office; or wait on the call centre; or navigating through the on line maze is an issue. Coupled with the short time scale, we’ll be doing well to get 40000.

SFA REFUSE TO TAKE ON ENGLAND IN PARADISE…http://www.cqnmagazine.com/?p=6647
Yes, paying to get in on top of the ST generally sees crowds dip, as was shown by the absentees for the Rennes friendly.
Six days only to sell tickets is a difficult task for the club.
even if it was Milan, let alone the ‘unknowns of Qarabag’
Celtic euro fever takes hold slowly, Mon Tues Wed then we’ll have still a queue at the ticket office after zadoc the priest has finished.
Heaven knows what it would be like if we got promoted to play in the Challenge Cup.
Read GMS piece on Cifti today seems he’s settled in fine. At the wind ups already. Like this in a player something or recent non scoring strikers never showed. On the park Cifti hasn’t impressed me but hopefully it will all fall into place once he scores.
Sorry, but down with SMSM tabloid headlines for CQN Magazine
