CQN Golf Open knocks it out the park again

1384

We had our 11th annual CQN Charity Golf Open at Aberdour in Fife yesterday and it was another brilliant occasion.  £2000 was raised for good causes, including a local Aberdour need, Tommy Burns’ Charity and the Celtic Foundation.

My thanks to the Joe Miller, who regaled us with tales of Maradona, Jinky and Sugar Roy Aitken.  The buzz he got from playing for Celtic is clear.  The day wouldn’t be possible without Taggsybhoy and BlantyreKev, but it takes an entire crowd to make special nights like this, so thanks to each of you.

This afternoon’s game against Rennes is an important step towards getting the players fully fit but the 90 minutes have to be balanced against the Champions League qualifier on Wednesday.  I expect Ronny will ask the players the burn the flame brightly for a short period, before making lots of changes.

I wasn’t allowed to wear the Hoops as a wee boy – too dangerous my mum said. When I reached my 40s I rebelled…I would wear the hoops to work if I could. However I still won’t let my boy wear the top when he is on his own. Horrible people out there

Hope this site isn’t available in heaven as my wee maw would be tut tutting.

I didn’t think of YouTube for old comedy series.

And I use it all the time for downloading music to burn CDs.

Wipe me down with a wet green citizen.

They had more soft penalty decisions on the way to the final than Sevco.

Nae offence, but US comedy sucks big time. Sitcoms especially. Big Bang was a wet squib for me.

Raymond, Frasier, Cheers are exempt from that critique for me.

Till death was a one joke show as are most shows, but then the ensemble come to the fore as long as the writing is good. Loved Porridge, Open all Hours, Fools,

You can find a lot of old series on YouTube. I watch more of them than I do current TV.

  8. That will be me finally a paid up me member of a CQN clique: “wear my jersey all the time, even in the pub”.

Wear my Hoops often enough that had my missus rolling her eyes not long after we tied the knot.

Twelve years on she doesn’t blink an eye noo. A few visits to Paradise changed her perspective entirely.

  9. Good morning friends from a very wet, very grey and very un-July-like East Kilbride. All of that plus a return to work….magic! ;-)

    Morning tims.

Its amazing to think that every time we see someone with the hoops on at a sporting event like the US open golf in the crowd at Wimbledon or even the snooker from Sheffield, that it upsets our fellow fans, baffles me.

Anyway watched a conspiracy theory programme last night about the “truthers ” and 9/11. Turns out it wisnae big Peter L that done it.

Love the old conspiracy stuff, from Jfk to the moon landings, many a theory and many a counter theory.

But the one I cant figure out is the one were Celtic fans think its only Celtic fans that wear their teams colours away from football.

Anyway have a good day, I will now that Jobo has telt me its peeing down, means the EK folk that work need a taxi ye hah.

Got a fridge full of beer though so i may as well whittle some of it down :(

Yer a lucky so n so!

  14. Morning all.

I think the ole Big Bang has resulted in the West of Scotland losing a season: summer. Once again, wet and cold down here.

Great programme, by the way. Haven’t seen a Celtic jersey on it yet, mind you. Have to agree with Ron Bacardi about guys of a certain age “sporting” the Hoops as beach ware. Naw………

  15. I’m heading off to West Waterford shortly for a Golf Outing, not presently wearing any Celtic regalia but after scrolling back, I’m off to dig up a CQN Golf Polo from the 2014 Aberdour outing that kikinthenakas gave me as a pressie..

p,s, I only wear it on special occasions so it’s still in pristine condition.

  16. Everton manager Roberto Martinez is willing to pay £10m to sign Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk, 24.

I wonder if there might be a wee bidding war kicking off. £10m+ for VVD is great business.

If we can spend a decent chunk of it on a new CB, LB & striker I will be happy.

I was quite shocked when Big Victor was sold so quickly.

Perhaps £10m should start the bidding but it seemed like we accepted the 1st bid, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if the same happens with Virgil.

  19. Working from home today.

Great to have the extra time for kip and not to travel but it is tremendously soulless.

Don’t know how some people do it 5 days a week.

Any other WFH’ers out there ?

  20. timmy7_noted on

Pete the beat,Yes I’m normally one but in the office today since the house is full of students and a wife that works in education, its mobbed and much quieter in work.

  21. timmy7_noted on

Meant to add I don’t normally do 5 days at home I would end up like one of the polar bears you seen in the zoo.3 or 4 days enough for me particularly if we have a midweek game CSC.

Will definitely be at home on Wednesday.

  22. That’s it, I’m having a work from home Celtic Onesie day tomorrow :-))

In the meantime I better get to my work

  23. Marrakesh Express on

The papers at it again. ‘Parkhead loses out to Hampden for England tie’, trumpets the Scotsman.

A non story but they just can’t help themselves.

  24. What I didn’t count on when WFH is the guilt factor.

I would think nothing of chatting to somebody in the office for 5 minutes but I feel that I’m, slacking when I look out the window for 30 seconds (never mind posting on CQN).

I try to save up the easier stuff for my WFH day. It’s difficult sorting out complex issues with people when it’s not face to face.

  25. bournesouprecipe on

I could never do that to the Hoops.

  26. A Celtic top on any fatty….oh dear no.

A football top on any adult……oh dear no.

Unless, your going to the game, the cup final or so a grown man in a football top is just a huge no-no.

  27. timmy7_noted on

    Cowiebhoy,

My WFH uniform is Celtic trackie bottoms when its cold and Celtic shorts when its hot……….:-) No hoops for me since I had to chuck the footy, too old,too fat and two shot knees put paid to that.My only hoops now are older ones or my Lisbon retro one.

Was tempted to get the 1980 final version when last in the Celtic shop, however no XL’s.

No guilt about the odd CQN post,I probably post more when in the office anyway.I figure as long as I’m sober I’m ok :-)

  28. Petethebeat,

Been working from home for 5 years now, love it especially I the winter when it is pissing down.

Recently took a secondment in Manchester which looks like becoming full time but the only thing stopping me is losing WFH.

  29. Morning all.

When I head off oot shortly I shall be wearing one of my natty Celtic polo shirts.

I’m a bit too long in the tooth to be seen in public wearing a CFC top.

Celtic games furth of Scotland require hoops, whatever the shape of the wearer.
