    Interesting suggestion.

They no longer exist as soon as they go into liquidation, as such this circus we are all enduring at the moment should not be happening.

As a business they are gone, as a football club they do not exist, if the new club wish to play football then they serve a three year ‘apprenticeship’ in the junior leagues to gain three year accounts and then they can apply to the bottom of the league structure IF a vacancy is available.

The rules are already in place, they just need to be applied.

Nearly all of the clubs in the SPL have taken the first step and said that they can still survive without the blue pound, the SFA need to take the next step which is expulsion of them from the SFA.

Sick and tired of this carry on, totally corrupt, anything less than expulsion for cheating just proves the whole of scottish football administration is corrupt from top to bottom.

    Interesting thoughts.

One thing though – if SEVCO retain the history and trophies, dubious as it is, then when found guilty of Dual Contracts they ought to be expelled. Then there’s the old Appellate Tribunal….expelled again. Thus, even without the big tax case they must be gone surely?

  6. Problem with the rules regarding relegation and promotion is that it refers to a normal season.

In this case, the relegation is open to question since fiasco FC have been found guilty of financial impropriety to sustain them through to finish 2nd. They should have been booted out long beforehand.

Although I don’t really care which club gets the nod (other than fiasco FC of course) I have a real sympathy for Dunfermline FC.

If this fiasco had been about any other club, they would have catapulted them early on in the season.

Yes, the idea of Dundee derbies could be a real winner for the SPL, however, I still sympathise with Dunfermline.

  8. All I’ve wanted from the start of all of this is for the rules of football to be applied fairly and to every team without favour.

Rangers FC PLC (in administration) is no longer a football team and should be deemed ineligible to hold a share in the SPL. The various enquiries into its past activities should conclude, including charges brought against anyone found to have broken the law.

One club from the SFL should be promoted to the SPL, and then the numbers made up in division one and division 2 by similar promotions.

The vacancy in division 3 should be advertised. Any clubs that meet the membership criteria should then be put to SFL clubs and a new entrant decided upon. If Sevco meets the criteria and wins that vote then it is a brand new SFL club with no history and no sanctions.

  9. setting free the bears

its an unlikely scenario, well both are unlikely scenarios unless anyone else lives in the same parallel universe as Mr Regan, but there is the possibility no matter how much the media and others try to ignore it, there is all this bluff and bluster about moving on, how can anyone possibly move on when there are serious footballing and non footballing issues still to be resolved? the governing bodies have to put their own house in order as well, by that I mean bring the matters which they have control over to a conclusion, let the appelate panel do its job. If these outstanding issues (footballing in particular) cannot be resolved prior to the onset of the new season then in my opinion there is no debate, they do not take part at any level. The game itself has to move on, it will not and cannot whilst there is all this uncertainty.

  16. A poster called delegate zero on The Huddle Board has managed to obtain the minutes of the RFFF meeting with John Brown the other night. Fascinating reading it makes, and well done to the guy for putting it out there:-

“MINUTES of Fighting Fund Meeting 4 July 2012

Sandy Jardine welcomed all to the meeting and introduced the top table.

The results of the RFFF poll showed an overwhelming desire (76%) from the fans out of almost 20,000 polled to play in Division 3. A straw poll was taken in the room; the result again reflected an overwhelming support for Division 3.

The entire Rangers board then entered the meeting, introduced themselves and explained roughly what they had done in the past.

Malcolm Murray wants to rebuild the club. All assets are owned by Sevco Scotland. Craig Whyte is definitely not involved, sworn statements have been lodged with relevant bodies including the SFA regarding this.

Charles Green talked about ‘balanced shareholding’ – no individual person would have control of the club again. He said everyone ‘outside of this room’ and the people we represent is Anti-Rangers.

The board stated that £11 million has been raised so far and injected into the club. They reckon there is roughly £3 million working capital, with more money coming in over the next couple of weeks.

John Brown asked the panel if they were still going to have £30 million available by mid-July. Charles Green said that figure was expected given while they expected a CVA to be agreed. The board were confident that more money and more investment was coming into the club and that the targets would be met.

A representative from Rangers Unite asked the board “What would you see as an exit price?” Imran replied that he believed on a bad day the club was worth £50 million.

There is currently £3 million in the bank account and an expected £2.6 million coming in over the next two weeks. This further investment is guaranteed and they have legal documents to prove so.

A Rangers Standard representative asked Charles Green to read out the names of the current shareholders. A number of names were read out and it was revealed that the major shareholder is Blue Pitch Holdings with 23%, which would be getting diluted to between 10 and 15% when the other investors come on board. Ian Hart was discussed as the questioner stated that he previously said he wasn’t an investor – the reasons for this were explained by CG.

CG stated the club would be floated on the Stock Market giving fans the chance to own shares in the club.

Vanguard Bears member and representative from RTID NI asked how CG feels about the fans overwhelming wishes to go to Division 3. Charles Green responded with “I have publicly said that I would accept that.”

Charles Green referred to the players that had left as turncoats. Alan McGregor was the only one to call Sandy Jardine afterwards, with Jardine also mentioning ex Celtic PR ma Peter McLean as being Steven Naismith’s agent.

CG expects criminal charges to be brought to the previous regime.

CG was asked if the possibility of playing in England exists and if he made an attempt at buying Bury FC. He responded that he was attracted by Bury and hoped to mention the club along with Rangers. Unfortunately distance was going to be a problem, as after Wimbledon became MK Dons the football league changed its rules to state that any merger between two clubs could only happen if the clubs were within roughly 60 miles of each other.

He also looked at the possibility of buying Carlisle, but believes we cannot merge with an English club. We would have to start at the bottom of the conference if we were to go to England.

A supporter asked when the current money in the club would run out without further investment. No answer was given. The same supporter was asked later to view the Club assets documents (the one’s Findlay wants to see), but declined the offer.

A representative from Denny then informed the panel that he had four reasons why we should go into Division 3. First he believed it would test Charles Green resolve; secondly he believed it would show the benefit of Auchenhowie and allow the management team to gain experience. Third, it would galvanise and unite the Rangers support, and lastly it would allow us to move on and concentrate on defeating the SNP’s fight for independence.

Malcolm Murray stated that the process for changing the name of Murray Park is underway.

John Brown and Andy Goram both asked if Donald Findlay QC could see the title deeds of the club, Brian Stockbridge, the club accountant, told John Brown to give him a call and they would set up a meeting where Donald Findlay could see the title deeds. This didn’t seem enough for Brown, he believed that a secure location had to be set up because Donald Findlay didn’t want people to know that his name had been mentioned, even though John Brown mentioned it on numerous occasions.

John Brown then claimed that a friend of his offered £11 million for the club before Charles Green’s consortium and that Duff and Phelps had rejected it or ignored it. This was debunked and denied by the board.

Brian Stockbridge twice explained the financial situation to Brown which appeared to go in one ear and out the other….

Charles Green left the meeting to attend another meeting with our enemies.

Various supporters took to the floor offering best wishes to Ally McCoist, stating they would be renewing their Season Tickets as there was no alternative.

    Questions to Ally McCoist :

Q – Will you be asking the fans to renew their ST’s?

A – Ally said he couldn’t ask the fans to renew ST’s as he didn’t know which players would be there or where we would be playing and he wouldn’t want it on his conscience that our hard-earned cash was being spent on something he couldn’t guarantee. Also, he didn’t have full trust in the current board for two reasons; he hasn’t known them long enough yet and because of the actions of the previous incumbents.

Q – If you were at our (the supporters) side of the table would you buy a ST?

    A – Ally responded, “In a heartbeat…..”

Q – Would the manager prefer Division I or Division 3?

A – Ally replied that he felt his duty as the manager was to carry out the fans wishes, if 80% of them wanted Division 3 then he would be 100% behind that. He said that only six first-team players turned up for training plus all the kids. He was unsure if Edu, Bocanegra and Goian would return from their extended break.

Q – It was reported in the rags that you were resigning from the club, was that the case?

A – It was explained by Ally that he had a fall out with CG – things like that happen, but never at any time was he for walking away.

John Brown was then asked to take the microphone for 10 mins – which turned into almost 30. Virtually nothing of the way forward for Rangers was discussed. He was prompted to come to the top table by RFFF Chairman to view the relevant documentation to satisfy his demands, which he declined. The meeting was then informed by Chairman McCormick that he was Brown’s accountant, which brought about many wry smiles from those assembled.

Sandy Jardine then informed the meeting before closing that there will be another RFFF meeting convened soon to discuss the position of the RFFF and funds within it.”

  17. Below is from @fritzagrandold.

The SPL is ESPN’s second most valuable footballing brand.

On 29/08/10 St.Mirren vs Hibs attracted audience of 40,156 on Sky Sports 4. On 20/02/11 St.Mirren vs Hibs attracted 221,204 on Sky Sports 1

So when SPL (non-Celtic or Rangers) was broadcast without competition from EPL it attracted five times the audience. Friday night football?

If Sky want to make SPL a stronger brand, put it on the flagship channels SS1 & 2 which is more available to non-Sky package customers.

When Celtic vs Rangers broadcast on SS4: audience 500,000. On SS1: 800,000.

Let me repeat that: we have been SCREWED here to a staggering degree.

Division 3 is NOT EVEN ON THE TABLE.

  19. On Killie

I know a few fans of the club too and they dispute that they are any more in favour of Rangers than Celtic. I think their hard core fans are Killie first and no one else but there are a few occasional attenders whose allegiance is primarily to Govan.

Anyway, Killie have been in trouble financially for many years and their owner wants out. Living on the edge as they do, they are much more prone to being badly affected by any downturn. They could well have gone bust even if Sevco were allowed into the SPL, so they could still go bust. The bale for this lies with previous spending of theirs not with Rangers’ demise. They have paid over the odds to remain an SPL club. They need to trim their cloth and accept that they may need to spend some time in Div. 1 too from time to time.

  20. Billy's Bhoy on

I want Old Rangers to be fully investigated for their wrong doings but this can not be transfereed to Sevco Rangers.

If it is proven that they cheated through double contracts etc then they should have the titles illicitly gained removed from the history books and transferred to those who played by the rules.

However Sevco’s application to join the SFL should be judged on its merits and if successful should follow custom and practice that new Club start at the lowest teir of the league structure. That is not punishment, it is treating everybody equally under the rules and natural justice of custom and practice.

I would love to think that Sevco could rid itself of the horrible history of 120 years of religious exclusivity and 20 years of financial mismanagement and become a club open to all that respects all others that they play against.

Scotland would be a better place for it!

Given the time available till the onset of the new season SPL 1 and 2 is not achievable without a massive delay, any delay impacts on TV/media coverage contracts, the pools panel agreements etc again having a detrimental impact on the finances of the game, and lets not forget the lead in times as you yourself highlighted for any new league set up.

IF the SPL chairmen stand their ground and say no, then there is no share transfer?

SFTB – my view is that a lot of the confusion is as a result of what Gilbert Ryle would have called a Category Mistake. There are many in the media who are conflating one thing with another (deliberately) in order to obfuscate and maintain the default and entrenched notion that Sevco is a continution of the dead entity once called “Rangers”. My view is: –

    1. The club “Rangers” were a company formed in 18xx and are no more.

    2. Sevco are a new company formed recently who want to be a football club.

    3. If the “Rangers” club were still alive then they would have a history to maintain. They are not alive and history cannot be transferred to and conferred upon another entity. That’s why, for example, I can’t transfer the history of my life to you no matter how attractive you getting my ‘O’ Grade in Metal Work might appear.

    4. Sevco have history of some months and no football honours (they are not yet a football club).

    5. To join the SFL, Sevco firstly need to form a football club.

    6. There are currently other companies who are already football clubs with a history and that meet the existing membership criteria and who therefore have a better argument that they can join the SFL.

    7. Sevco therefore can change their company or trading name to whatever they want but they still have no continuity with the previous football club that was called “”Rangers”.

It would be easier all round if we avoided the Category Mistake of conflating Sevco with “Rangers” by referring to them always as separate entities. This would help everyone to avoid the confusion. Of course, the MSM realise this and will continue to refer to both as one and the same in order to pursue their agenda of selling papers.

To answer your question, in my mind, the only option is for Sevco to start a footie club and apply in a few years for SFL membership once they meet the criteria. The The Scenario 2 you describe, in my view, is an example of the Category Mistake noted above.
