Since July I’ve written about the over-dependence we have on Kris Commons as a creative player. He’s pretty much our only option, and if he’s not fancied, injured, suspended or just off-form, we look like a team full of energy but without a key to open the door.
It may be that Ronny doesn’t figure on having a classic No. 10 in his team, and it’s more than possible that we won’t play one against European heavyweights, but against packed SPFL defences, we need someone who can create space in dangerous areas.
As we mentioned last month, some years ago Celtic reportedly looked at Bosnian international, Semir Stilic, while he was at Lech Poznan. His star faded before a journey through Ukrainian and Turkish football before he returned to Poland with Wisla Krakow 12 months ago on an 18 month contract. Since then he’s been a sensation and has kept Wisla in touch with the top of the table.
He’s refused a new contract offer from Wisla and is subject to a bid from Dinamo Zagreb, thought to be in the region of €250k. He’s likely to be on circa €2k per week. We’ve scouted the player, he’s soon out of contract, going cheap, on low wages, on form and we’re short of what he can give.
This is the kind of player Dinamo Zagreb pick up for buttons and enables them to compete as effectively as they did against Celtic with a fraction of our budget. He has the making of an effective January signing.

Are they making a comedy about the Irish Famine or set in the Irish Famine? There’s been plenty of comedies set in dark periods of history. Allo, Allo is just one example and I am sure there are many others.
=====
Set in or about An Gorta Mor ? – isn’t that one and the same thing. Either way it is deeply offensive. What next the hilarious goings on at Auschwitz-Birkenau during the Holocaust? The fact that it is being penned by an Irishman only makes it more galling. I recall Gabriel Byrne saying something similar when he told Hollywood to GTF when they asked him to star in ‘patriot games’

Scottish players I would like to see us make serious efforts to sign, would be S.Armstrong, and the boy Christie of Inverness.
Other than that, get an experienced man in… mick McCarthy and get this Norwegian comedy act, sent packing….. Then and only then, will there be signs of progress.

Ronny Deila isn’t expecting any quick transfer deals during the January window.
After tomorrow’s match at Kilmarnock Celtic head to Gran Canaria for a training break with games against PSV Eindhoven and Sparta Prague thrown in.
It’s highly unlikely that any new faces will be on board for that trip as the clock ticks down on a crucial period of the season.
During the summer Stefan Scepovic was the only player that Celtic paid a transfer fee for with Deila expecting business to be concentrated in at the end of the month.
“It is very hard to say if we are closer to signing anyone,” he admitted. “You can have a feeling one day it is going to go and then something new comes in and you are back on your heels again.
“It is so hard to do something very early in the window. We will try to do it but I think we will have to work on the 31st. I don’t think we will have anyone in early. If we do it will be a positive surprise.”

I really don’t understand this nonsense about the last day of the window. If Ronny has identified targets then get them in asap. We know we can’t compete with big guns around Europe wages/League wise but if targets that can play in the way Ronny wants his team to play, I see no real reason not to have them bedded in well before that transfer deadline day guff.
Ronny is a good coach so it doesn’t make sense to me that players (new first team players) are not going on this Winter break because this will be the best time for solid coaching. The 2nd half of the season could get quite congested, meaning less proper coaching time with all the players available at the one time.
This is just as much about next season as this and I find it hard to understand we are not preparing a lot better, oh and Aberdeen won again today, I’m sure most of Scottish Football would love nothing better than us to slip up in the League.
Sort it out Celtic, please.

One number would have bought you some of them but where’s the deeds?

Is game on sky or BT tomorrow?
Still amazed at the number of people calling for RD’s head on here.
There have been games where Celtic could have won by 6 or 7. Not his fault that the strikers miss compete sitters.
The same people want us to sign one of them permanently.
The guy is far from the finished article, I know that.
He stands by too many players who aren’t doing it:
Matthews, who struggled to perform basic defensive tasks against McGinn at Pittodrie, yet the Motherwell right back did it no problem.
McGregor: completely heartless and lack any intelligence. Barely a developmental player.
Ambrose: if this is the best backup we’ve got then we’re in bother.

I’m sure Celtic and the manager want players in place tomorrow but the likely explanation is the players we’ve identified and agreed fees/wages with are holding out for better offers, when they don’t appear then we’ll get our man (and arent we lucky to get them :O).
