Creative options

Since July I’ve written about the over-dependence we have on Kris Commons as a creative player.  He’s pretty much our only option, and if he’s not fancied, injured, suspended or just off-form, we look like a team full of energy but without a key to open the door.

It may be that Ronny doesn’t figure on having a classic No. 10 in his team, and it’s more than possible that we won’t play one against European heavyweights, but against packed SPFL defences, we need someone who can create space in dangerous areas.

As we mentioned last month, some years ago Celtic reportedly looked at Bosnian international, Semir Stilic, while he was at Lech Poznan.  His star faded before a journey through Ukrainian and Turkish football before he returned to Poland with Wisla Krakow 12 months ago on an 18 month contract.  Since then he’s been a sensation and has kept Wisla in touch with the top of the table.

He’s refused a new contract offer from Wisla and is subject to a bid from Dinamo Zagreb, thought to be in the region of €250k.  He’s likely to be on circa €2k per week.  We’ve scouted the player, he’s soon out of contract, going cheap, on low wages, on form and we’re short of what he can give.

This is the kind of player Dinamo Zagreb pick up for buttons and enables them to compete as effectively as they did against Celtic with a fraction of our budget.  He has the making of an effective January signing.

“John Hartson” & “spot on” in the same sentence is something I’ll never utter.

Hartson need to grasp reality. Celtic aren’t at the level when he was playing.

Sutton and him have a beef with Lawwell as he wanted them out the door becomes of their wages.

Both have went way down in my estimation.

They lack the class of Larsson, who doesn’t hit out with their kind of guff.

I’m sure Celtic and the manager want players in place tomorrow but the likely explanation is the players we’ve identified and agreed fees/wages with are holding out for better offers, when they don’t appear then we’ll get our man (and arent we lucky to get them :O).

It is very frustrating, they should have a smaller window, I’m sure 5 days or so would be ample time.

If it goes to that last day, and sadly I think you are right, there are no guarantees of getting deals done as well.

I must admit, I really dislike that “Deadline Day” thing and the way agents are controlling so much.

  9. If the Sarver thing was genuine we’ll see a stock market announcement tomorrow. If it really was ‘just after Christmas I’d have thought there would have been astatement on one of the trading days last week.

Hartson and Sutton, don’t speak for all Celtic fans….. But there’s around 30k missing from Celtic Park most weeks that would agree with their view on things. There are many more thousands that don’t attend games, support Celtic all the same… They too no doubt share Hartsons views.

Never mind the fact that Hartsons and Sutton played with Celtic at a time where the over all quality of player was far superior to now…. How about simply acknowledging that both these players know a lot more about what is required in top level football, than ur average poster on CQN

No 2 plastic pitches are the same, therefore the professional thing is to train on it and get a feel for it before playing.

Kilmarnock are out off order, Celtic should use this to their advantage as motivation.

Hearts hired Alloa’s pitch before they played them, Sevco didn’t bother.

Hearts won and sevco have drawn once and been beaten once.

Really rips my knitting that Hartson and Sutton have waited until Neil is no longer in charge until they have a go, loyalty to their pal, none to the club.

I do agree that things are not perfect at the moment but some of the comments are just vindictive nonsense

  14. Mon The Hoops! on

Watched the Murderwell / Aberdeen game earlier on. I think they have similar problems as us at the moment: controlling swathes of the game but not able to score as many as they should…

They weren’t so vocal when their pal, lennon, was in charge and there were 20k at many games last season. I watched some garbage under that regime including defeats by the mighty Kilmarnock and Morton to name but a few.

Sutton did a great job at Lincoln, didn’t he?

Any valid points they both have is ruined by the ferocity of the language which is used. They’ve taken the MSM coin and it shows. There is little constructive in what they say.

surly your second scenario is dependant on your relationship with the milker i.e. children milk us dry but we give willingly likewise if you are referring to Celtic the answer is yes if you love the milker and not paying would results in its demise

  22. Dexter says PAY THE LIVING WAGE CELTIC PLC on

“Transfer window…working on a number of options…difficult at this time of the year…possible loan deals…potential surprise…working on things right up till 31st” blah fecking blah. Same aul shite every window. WTF ARE OUR SCOUTS ACTUALLY DOING?? WTF IS PL DOING WITH ANY RECOMMENDATIONS??

The window is OPEN NOW. Have we not identified potential targets MONTHS AGO??? Should the groundwork not already have been laid??

CQNers have identified a number of targets on this blog- cheap, available etc. One would’ve thought of bloggers can identify targets, paid scouts should be doing so too. Are we just to kick our heels and hope that someone somewhere might become available late on 31st?? We would be much better off getting players in asap, not paying over the odds for ill thought through and overly expensive options at the end of the window.

We NEED, minimum, a centre back, a right back, a creative forward player and possibly a striker.

The transfer windows are fast becoming a total embarrassment for us.

    GET YER FINGER OUT LAWELL.

Im not using it as an excuse, you miss my point, I think we will win tomorrow, but you would rightly criticize Celtic if they do not prepare properly. Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.

  24. Aye, let’s just stick with Ronny then…. 2nd place in one of the worst Scottish Premier divisions (in terms of quality) for decades, sounds ideal.

Lawwell is unfortunately adhering to the remit given to him by Dermot Desmond.

His KPIs are at odds with having a successful team on the pitch.

We are being hung out to dry, as is Deila.
