Dave King’s self-flagellation

1136

Self-flagellation:

SPFL: “Rather than attempt to communicate through the media, it is far more appropriate that any substantive issues are presented to the SPFL board for careful and detailed consideration, based on a sound legal analysis of the facts.”

Translated: Whip.

SPFL: “To date, there has been no such representations to the SPFL board and it notes Mr King’s statement of 30 May.

Translated: Whip.

SPFL: “In its statement of 29 May, Rangers FC claimed “a business relationship”, existed between the SPFL chairman and minority shareholders in a SPFL club, despite no evidence of such a relationship being presented. There is no mention of the previously claimed “business relationship” in the 30 May statement.

Translated: Whip.

SPFL: “In the 30 May statement the central allegation has now become that “there was non-disclosure of the conflict that immediately arose when the SPFL chairman accepted” his appointment as a non-executive director of International News & Media PLC (“IN&M plc”). As with the 29 May statement, no detail was provided to support this allegation.

SPFL: “Within the space of about 24 hours two different and very public allegations have been made against the SPFL chairman without, in either case, an approach first being made to the SPFL with concerns or seeking clarification.”

Translated: Whip.

To you or me this would be embarrassing.  The SPFL know the rules.  In fact, they wrote the rules, so if you are going to go off like a paranoid loon, know your territory, get it right, be consistent, remember what you wrote yesterday before launching into another issue today.

The days when the likes of Jim Farry (or the many who followed him) ran Scottish football are over.  There are professionals in place now.  Murdoch MacLennan has been a senior executive of large companies for decades.  He was a member of the Commission on Scottish Devolution, is an Honorary Professor at the Glasgow University Business School.

Unlike Dave King, he has no criminal convictions.

I would also like to point out some of the reporting on this:

“Record Sport broke the story Doncaster would be standing by MacLennan, despite news emerging of the 69-year-old’s links with Desmond and fellow shareholder Denis O’Brien.”

Ask yourself this: on what basis could the SPFL act against Murdoch MacLennan?  It would be more accurate to say “Neil Doncaster and others on the SPFL board have no choice but to stand by MacLennan as no evidence of wrong-doing whatsoever has been presented.”

And, no evidence of links with Dermot Desmond or Denis O’Brien have been provided.  There are no such links, only innuendo.   King may as well have said, “They go to the same synagogue” [they don’t, of course].

Stay classy, Dave.  I’m sure outbursts like this are a sign that your troubles are all under control, but stop this self-flagellation nonsense.

  2. Etihad would seem an obvious choice if there’s rumour of some sort of tie-up with Man City’s youth academy. In another way, Emirates would be more likely. Emirates being the ‘national’ airline of Dubai, and already having the naming rights for the Velodrome just across the road from CP. Also, we seem to be spending our mid-season breaks there now, and, I believe there is some sort of connection with one of the local clubs there ( could be mistaken on this )

Whatever. Any money being invested in the club is likely to be from The UAE, rather than Saudi Arabia. Can’t help feeling that in some small way, the Arabs have taken notice of the unity demonstrated by a section of the support for those in Palestine.

It won’t matter what it’s called. To the fans it will always be what they know it as now, be that Parkhead, Celtic Park, or Paradise.

Just read Jim’s (sorry, Stevie’s) statement. Looks like he is joining “Rangers Football Club”. That will certainly be interesting. Hope he isn’t expecting any wages…..

  4. Naming rights money to be used to build a multi-storey car park 1k from the stadium and buses to bring the fans to the Celtic Way, perfect. por cierto

  5. Stadium naming rights are just that. The stadium will be renamed “Eitihad” or whoever, and that it, It becomes the official title. The sponsors will have no rights to interfere with the running of the stadium

The last few years since the Commonwealth games was announced has seen a marked rise in the stadium footprint with Investment in the Celtic Way, new pitch, new lighting, proposed Museum and Hotel. Now perhaps some of these improvements were backing up the sale of stadia naming rights.

As everyone is aware it will always be Celtic Park or Parkheid.

Now consider this, why would a image conscious big hitter wish to sponsor our Stadium in a small League. It can only be that our profile is high and maybe because it is getting higher in the future. European league?

    Good Afternoon All.

I come to the blog today with a hugely heavy heart and shedding real tears as I type.

I am very sad to announce that after many years of fighting the good fight, living a life as full as she could and knowing that she was loved and cared for by people who she never even met, Vanessa Riddle passed away this morning. Vanessa was 19 (I think) and succumbed to the dreadful Neuroblastoma disease which is meant to be rare – although it seems to strike at hundreds of kids each year.

If I may say so, one of the greatest achievements of CQN was when the blog rose to the challenge of raising urgent funds to help provide Vanessa with life saving treatment in America when it was not available here.

Her family were told that unless she could raise £500k then their little girl would die. When I started asking those on here for funds for a child I had never met, she had about £10k in the kitty.

From here, thousands of pounds were raised, the news swept across the Celtic familiar and out into the conscience of the rest of Scotland.

Within 13 weeks, the Vanessa campaign had raised around three quarters of a million pounds and put the fight against this bloody awful disease on the map.

Campaigns for Oscar Knox, Niamh Curry, McKenzie Furness and others followed.

By the time we got to McKenzie the Scottish Government three in £250k towards her treatment.

I only met Vanessa once and she was a lovely girl. Her mum and dad, Chris and Connie, were special guests at CQN 10 and my thoughts and prayers are with them.

On a personal level, I owe Vanessa Riddle a debt and gratitude that I can never repay because she sparked in me the belief that nothing is impossible and the seemingly impossible can be overcome if you get the Celtic Support at your back.

Together, there is always hope, always a helping hand, always some good you can do somewhere. I believe that with every sinew and every bone.

During the campaign I received huge support from many Celtic fans many who wanted to remain anonymous. One fan underwrote tens of thousands of pounds of treatment!

But the main personal benefit given to my vis Vanessa was that Taggsybhoy organised a quiz to raise fund and there for the first time I met people who have since become close friends.

I hadn’t realised that I might be asked to say something and, ever the lawyer, found myself speaking to a room full of strangers, asking for money in an attempt to reach a target which seemed impossible and which might not be reached in tune to save this girl’s life.

I recall saying “ but if no one tries she will assuredly die!”

I am heart broken at today’s news, which I knew was coming.

Vanessa and her family are a beacon for me and always will be.

Good people deserve help whenever misfortune strikes and this blog, those who post and those who lurk, answered their prayers and gave them hope, and for a period at least gave them the company of their wonderful daughter.

In many ways, Vanessa gave us each other.

There are few greater gifts than friendship, love and support from your fellow man.

God speed Vanessa – you will always be remembered for the very best of reasons.

  10. I think, not sure though, that the right wing scumbag Tommy Robinson has been arrested, tried and sent to jail for 13 months, all happened in one morning this week apparently, breaking bail conditions it seems.

Amazing work and post BRTH; so sad to hear of the loss of this young lady, but inspired also by her, and your, inspirational humanity. May God rest her Soul in Peace.

(This is the kind of post that makes lurkers like myselfoccasionally break cover to avoid being named in the ‘He doesn’t post anymore clique’, or even worse, the ‘What was that guy’s moniker?’ clique.)
