DECISION TIME FOR GREEK ACE

CELTIC are awaiting word from Greek international Georgios Giakoumakis after his Dutch club, VVV-Venlo, accepted a £2.5million bid for their 26-goal striker.

The clubs have also agreed a sell-on clause for the 26-year-old hitman who was the Eredivisie’s top scorer, despite the team’s failure to beat relegation.

It has been reported Ange Postecoglou has been permitted direct access to talk to the player directly and received favourable feedback, according to the Daily Record.

Giakoumakis is also interesting other clubs across Europe and Qatar. Werder Bremen, who dropped out of the Bundesliga last term, have also had a meeting with the forward’s representatives and have been able to offer a superior personal financial package, but they have yet to meet the Dutch side’s asking price for their hottest property who is now in the final year of his contract.

The decision now rests with the giant Greek as the clock ticks down on the transfer deadline which is now only 12 days away.

Postecoglou hopes to seal a similar deal with Croatia international right-back Josip Joranovic tomorrow with the defender poised to fly in for a medical tomorrow.
