Declare the 9

873

I remember 1997 when another nine-in-a-row was about to be won.  We knew it was coming, we knew it would be difficult and we needed to get through the period.  I avoided all news coverage and football chat for over 24 hours that May, only to find out later that Motherwell’s Owen Coyle upset plans and the title had yet to be won.  I just wanted it over with, the delay was not helpful.

We are in the same situation now, there is not the remotest doubt the Premiership will be called and Celtic will be declared champions.  No one’s interest is served by further postponing the inevitable; it would only leave the SPFL in the spotlight longer than necessary.

Only box ticking exercises remain and today’s meeting between Premiership clubs and the SPFL should be the last.  Scottish football has more important things to worry about, it is in significant peril and needs to move energies on immediately.  Declare the 9.

The DR also reports the HUGE kit deal with liverpool based castore !

  2. `….And Castore co-founder Tom Beahon added: “In our search for our first elite club, nobody came close to matching Rangers. Partnering with Rangers is a seminal milestone.” `

    Made me smile.

Also, that was Headline News on the BBC site which does not have a single, Celtic related article. I have visited that site for the last time.

PS I did e-mail their complaints department recently. The reply was as condescending as I expected.

  3. Had a wee look on celtic newsnow.

There , not many celtic good news stories . Kid on celtic sites I fear .

    Thanks…..I think :-)

Incidentally, when it is announced that Celtic are Champions, it will hardly make any difference to me. I already feel that we have completed 9 in a row.

  5. Ultimately, the Ibrox club did not show off the new strips in their announcement but gave more details of the new deal.

( cause we huvnae made any yet )

“The multi-year partnership stands as one of the most valuable commercial partnerships in the club’s recent history ( widnae be hard Billy ) and represents a major milestone in our ambition to achieve excellence, at every level of the club, in anticipation of our 8th anniversary year.

    (Year changed for accuracy )

Sorry, you’re right, it was Celtic who decided to give it away, por cierto

  7. The sevco kit announcement in the early hours of a Sunday morning reeks of desperation. They’ve had a bad week having lost the EGM vote and having to agree Celtic as champions, probably out of necessity rather than desire.

I wonder who the Beahon brothers are trying to convince, themselves or the hordes? Big play on the Liverpool connection – might end up with egg on their faces if Slippy G decides he’d rather be with his family after lockdown.

    MASH – enter stage right.

  8. In a parallel universe we’re making our way to Celtic Park right now for our 9th trophy day in a row. The only upside in footballing terms to this pandemic is that it saved Stevie G’s job.

PC- no apology required, it was information I didn’t know, never seen the rags reporting it….

  10. We raised our glasses to Helen yesterday evening. The best of Tims, the best of us.

    Happy birthday Paddymacoz

*** CQN PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2019-20 ***

RESULTS FROM GAME #42 – CELTIC 5 ST MIRREN 0 (GRIFFITHS(3), EDOUARD, McGREGOR)

Whilst we weren’t at our scintillating best yesterday, we controlled the game from start to finish, peppering our performance with several memorable moments. And we witnessed our 2nd hat trick of the season with our #9 having his best game for us in over a year. When it comes to Man Of The Match awards it’s almost inevitable that the sponsors will give that to any hat trick hero, as happened at the ground yesterday. However, there were a few other very fine performances and some of the CQN community, myself included, thought that there were 3 even better performers than Leigh. Indeed, 8 of our 10 outfield starters caught they eye of at least one of our voting population.

I understand that online streams of non-televised Celtic Park games are becoming more difficult to find and understandably the number of voters is a little lower than would normally be the case for such a convincing, feel-good resounding victory. But a big thank you as always to the 45 who did manage to cast their votes.

Results are as follows with my own choices asterisked –

    Forster: 0

    Bitton*: 20

    Jullien: 0

    Ajer: 1

    Forrest*: 17

    Brown*: 7

    McGregor: 17

    Rogic: 7

    Taylor: 0

    Griffiths: 40

    Edouard: 25

    Christie: 0

    Elyounoussi: 0

    Elhamed: 1

So, the players receiving points for the Livingston game are –

    Griffiths – 5 points

    Edouard – 4 points

    Bitton – 3 points

    McGregor – 2 points

    Forrest – 2 points

In terms of the overall points table, Scott Brown has been leading the way since we beat Lazio away on 7th November. So top of the league for 26 games. But we finally have a new leader although it remains very tight at the top –

    1st – Edouard – 76 points

    2nd – Brown – 73 points

    3rd – McGregor – 69 points

    4th – Jullien – 53 points

    5th – Christie – 46 points

    6th – Forrest – 45 points

    7th – Frimpong – 40 points

    8th – Ntcham – 38 points

    9th – Ajer – 31 points

    10th – Elyounoussi – 26 points

    11th – Forster – 25 points

    12th – Taylor and Griffiths – 22 points

    14th – Bauer – 14 points

    15th – Bitton, Rogic and Bolingoli-Mbombo – 13 points

    18th – Hayes and Elhamed – 8 points

    20th – Johnston and Welsh – 4 points

    22nd – Bayo – 3 points

    23rd – Morgan and Robertson – 2 points

    25th – Simunovic – 1 point

26th – Bain, Gordon, Klimala, Sinclair, Ralston, Arzani, Hendry, Dembele, Shved – all on 0 points

Next up, a High Noon kick off at Ibrox next Sunday against Sevco, aka The Zombies, aka The Doppelgangers, aka Triggers Broom FC, aka The Deady Bears, etc, etc. Kick off for us will take place approximately 187 hours after our last game finished. Sevco’s break will have been 64 hours. Hopefully our performance will lead to the highest number of voters for the season so far – 79 emails required so pass the word around!! And, personally, I hope we let them worry about us rather than the other way around – go 3-5-2 and secure a resounding victory!

Oh and I now get a week away from your admittedly often witty and interesting emails. I hope you understand that I don’t have time to respond personally to each one. But keep your stories and reasoning coming – they are always interesting reading.

    Hail Hail!

So why announce on Sunday morning?

One possible answer (and only half joking)

Cash needed desperately on Monday morning …

Only possible source of significant income is voluntary season ticket renewals

Raining outside – dummies with internet stuck in house.

    Roll up, roll up

  14. An Dun,

They realised just before the lockdown – remember back then ? Days from walking, blah blah..defeats to Accies and Hearts…

Their hatred has taken over but I hope they stick with him – he’s a dud and that assistant bumping his gums about the league cup final STILL speaks volumes for their mentality…

They really are the most stupid, gullible fans un the world and long may that continue.

“The Kings’s New Clothes” is a short tale about two tim weavers who promise Dave King a new set of Rangers football strips that they say are invisible to those who are unfit for their positions, stupid, or incompetent – while in reality, they make no football strips at all, making everyone believe the strips are invisible to them. When the Rangers team parade before their loyal (sic) subjects in their new “strips”, no one dares to say that they do not see any strips on him for fear that they will be seen as stupid. Finally a child cries out, “But they aren’t wearing anything at all!”

  17. Hi Bhoys

    Quote from castore co-owner below.

Castore co-founder Tom Beahon added: “In our search for our first elite club, nobody came close to matching Rangers.

“We cannot wait to be part of the next chapter of success for this prestigious football club.

How can you have a ‘next’ chapter of success when there hasn’t been a previous chapter of success ?

Mr Beahon really ought to have done some research.

  21. Not sure what’s more sad…signing with castore or holding off the announcement for weeks so you can cheer up fans on the eve of the 9 ?
