Defensive experiments will pay dividends

822

Playing Adam Matthews and Emilio Izaguirre as wing-backs with Kelvin Wilson, Charlie Mulgrew and Mikael Lustig as a back three looked a bit clumsy and didn’t last the 90 minutes but that was to be expected.  New defensive formations are not supposed to operate as smoothly as familiar systems.

I’m far from certain three at the back is a good idea, or if we have the correct personnel for this formation, but Neil Lennon should persist with the experiment.  We will not learn and grow if we don’t take chances, which was one of our abiding frustrations under both Martin O’Neill and Gordon Strachan.

No experiments on Tuesday, of course!

Being brave in making changes does not necessarily reflect a lack of confidence. It may demonstrate a confidence to react to changing circumstances rather than a stubborn determination to persevere against the evidence of failure.

    Interpretation can become judgementalism quickly.

I also feel that systems and shapes are over-rated. You need a basic pattern like a band needs a rythm section. But it’s the flair of the guitar or piano, and voice that distinguishes the memorable from the routine.

Players create within systems. We no longer rely on Aiden alone. We have Forrest, Sammi, KI, Kayal, Brown and Wanyama who can provide flair, cutting edge, drive and strength to make our breakthroughs.

    Rose tints don’t suit me.

SPL squads ARE littered with our ex-young starlets. they all have their share of former Kojo brammers.

    Aberdeen have McGinn

United have Gardyne and Millar and Flood

St. Mirren have Van Zanten and McGowan

St. Johnstone have Sheridan and Millar

Dundee have Irvine, Conroy, McBride and Riley

    Kilmarnock have Harkins

Ross Co have Lawson and Quinn

Some of our young talent would look great and make earlier breakthroughs with those clubs. It is harder to break through at Celtic. Getting one or two first team games is easy but getting back into the team after you have had a bad game is the measure of a determined and talented player.

I have hopes for Dylan McGeoch, Paul George, Filip Twardzik, Tony Watt and Jackson Irvine but they are unlikely to all make it with us.

I hope you are right about Russell but many players have attempted the jump up. McClair and Deans managed very well, Coyne and Walker were merely average, and Melrose and Killen failed, despite being hefty scorers and stars for their previous team.

Johnny Russell looked good today and scored a great brekaway goal. Can he do it regularly with an attacking team faced with packed defences??

    JRh – GH type player.

We have been linked to JRh for absolutely ages plus we have GH admirers ready to go.

Consequently it could be two big out and one fairly big in.

As for AS – he is the Maria of CP.

How do you sort out the problem that is …

Would take JRu as I fear AS is beyond redemption.

He only plays one good game in three and when he is bad he takes others down with him.

I’m one of Ki’s biggest critics, all I can say is when he shines he’s quality and I do\have praised him for his efforts.

I would love to read about Ki telling the world he wants to prove himslef in front of the Celtic support, Sammi did it, abuse from all sides, still trying.

This week, Bayram said he wants to prove himself to the Celtic support, hopefully he will last the season, like sammi he’s willing to be crippled trying to please Celtic supporters.

(a bit more hunting from sammi would round him off:o)

I’ve no got a problem with “dobbing”, hope somebody sticks my murderer in, innit.

My issue was the lack of defence, our “reps” knew the words, knew the context of the quote and agreed it was offensive, agreed with the persecuters of the Celtic support that the Celtic support are offensive.

    Oh, neganon2,

had a wee thought about that nasty post the other day, about Celtic having our worst year in ever, the money and prospective debt, well

long time ago I suggested we change the orientation of the stadium, square off towards London Rd, increase capacity to 80K – 100K and half the cost of the season ticket.

then I came up with buying setantas broadcast equipment and batter into the media game.

then I came up with developing lennoxtown into a classic status golf course with hospitality, specialist sports medical centre that will attract the specialists from around the world, in fact, they dont even need to travel any more, a new pair of gloves and they can operate remotely, honest. I digress as usual :oD)))

now I’m coming up with taking the old school apart and using the stone to build the facad for any shed, if they want to keep a wall, make it right, dont fence me in :o)

So, all those ideas have a price and every one a winner :o)

people have made development deals, the commonwealth games was hailed by the board, there is a responsibility to get the place looking nice.

So, last years earnings have been promised, is that set aside.

using investment to offset profit allows you to reduce your tax bill while allowing you to pay a dividend, does the dividend cost much more than the tax saving

anyroadup before I jumped into what I’d do with Celtic if I was a capitalist, my very very first moan is, I’m too old to give a funkeys muck about potential :oD))))

I want to be winning the the champions league last year and the fact we didny means them in charge are loosers, innit

As someone posted he is ex young Asian player of year and current Korean player of the year , as well as bronze medal.

Id be looking for 8-10m up front, then few add ons.

Wish he was on longer contract because I think he would be good for Europe with us, suit his game and could add onto his value.

If we sell and beat helsingborgs that should be between 25-30m in bank for Celtic. Surely Lennon would get between 10/15m to spend.

Then possibly get rid of Murphy, bangura and Wilson in January. Free up wages and hopefully even 1m between them all in fees .

    Great quote from the Housing minister;

““It is blindingly obvious. And only a perverse kind of Left-wing dogma that appears indifferent to the suffering of those languishing on record waiting lists prevents this kind of common sense from prevailing.”

If he was in anyway concerned about people languishing on lists he might have advocated it as a policy priority to build more affordable houses at any point. Suddenly now enforced sales of peoples’ homes is an option he discovers ‘compassion’. Laughable if it wasn’t so depressing. The workhouse mentality….

    Another day another disgrace.

    Thanks for the link.

  24. West Wales – with the building trades in serious difficulty and everyone on their supply chain in the same boat, with waiting lists ridiculously high, with the housing stock at it’s lowest in generations and massive pressure on council housing in particular because of the ‘right to buy’ you would be forgiven for thinking that the government might just fund a large scale public house building scheme.

Oops, I forgot, they don’t want people to have affordable government owned housing and not be saddled with massive debts that keep them shackled for life.

When it comes to housing they really don’t care.

Although I know a fair few people who benefitted from buying cheap under the right to buy scheme the more I think about it the more I think it has been a major contributing factor to the mess we are in today. Inflated house prices and everyone mortgaged to the hilt – ‘they make the laws, they chain us well’

I tend to agree. No matter what one team does the other can counter it in terms of shape anyway. I heard that in Italy managers are constantly changing the shape of the team throughout the match, almost chess like.

Myself and Bournesoup had a brief exchange of this view yesterday – perhaps at times all we need to do is sit back and hit on the break. You don’t really need to rely on ‘shape’ for that. Good solid 4-4-1-1 win the ball with your opponents pressing and bam, up to forrest, samaras, hooper, commons etc. no banks of players to get through.

The other option I see as being effective is to press other teams as high up the park as possible. No on eshould ever have an easy out ball from the back.
