Dembele signs for Celtic

249

Brendan Rodgers first signing for Celtic has been confirmed as striker Moussa Dembele (19), who was out of contract at Fulham. Capped up all French youth levels, Moussa was subject to a £6m bid from Tottenham in January, but Fulham chose to retain the player in their fight for Championship survival.

Sought-after players are seldom available out of contract, and even less-seldom come to Scotland, so this is a bit of a coup for Brendan’s Celtic.

I spent most of the day telling people this one works on paper but that I was concerned at his age. Then I realised he’s a French contemporary of Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman (4 weeks older than Moussa). I’ll put my ageism back in its box.

Welcome to Celtic, Moussa, and well done to everyone who pulled the deal together.

I think, sometimes, posters feel a little insensitive if they post on a Celtic matter immediately after a post about a more serious matter.

That film of Farage clutching his wee fit for the top of a sandcastle sized Butchers Apron while the likes of Marine Le Pen applaud his ( and her ) victory sent a shiver down my spine .Nauseating !.

    Off oot to Palermo .

  3. Delighted with Dembele, Joe Allen & one other quality signing and I’ll be made up.

The off loading is now almost as important as new signings.

Presently we have 15 midfielders in our first team squad, for a man who doesn’t like to tinker and will probably play 2 up front, that number is almost an obscenity.

It will depend on who impresses Brendan but at this stage, GMS & Scott Alan look most under threat but if there is a decent money move for the likes of Bitton or Joe Hanson, Brendan could decide to take the cash & look to re-invest elsewhere.

Roberts & Kris are likely to be gone at end of this season and at that stage midfield numbers will be more sensible.

Ciftci looks like the obvious one to go from the forwards.

  4. I firmly believe that if Joe Allan comes in through the Celtic Park revolving door, he will pass Stefan Johansen leaving in the opposite direction.

  5. Jobo – a little spot of early morning rain in Cala D’or but looks like the sun is starting to burn through. Hope you and the good lady have a great break. Missed you at the airport this time :-)

I see the wee team from the rock only got beat 2-1 in the first leg last night , was discussing the outcome on Sunday with a few of the Bhoys in Paddys and the concensus was if they get through we would run a bus .

I think Stefan Johansen will be leaving no matter who BR has lined up. Hope his pal Bitton goes with him (but less likely)

  9. I we are assembling a team of good footballer, they are definitely building a team of cloggers.

Therefore, we need to look after ourselves on the pitch.

We also need to ensure as far as we can that officials protect our players.

Said the same the other day,

they are building a team of anti football players to stop the opposition at all costs.

they will be effective at it too, we need clever players in midfield to unlock them.

You wonder who is signing their players? It seems to be the opposite now from Warbiola’s philosophy and much more like Weary Daves:)))

For a newly promoted four year old team they will have to be at their very best every week to survive the top division.

Spot on mate it’s plain for all to see what the game plan is there . I hope BRENDAN RODGERS , Has plans to install some steel in his team , which if he has been studying footage of last seasons team , he will have noted it was non existent . I also hope a no nonsense centre half is also on his radar ,as I am afraid the big lad simuonovic (sp). seems to be too injury prone , I also agree with another fellow poster ,who stated that we have too many midfielders .which I feel we have , and sorry to say , if thems continue to fill their team with hurlock and Roberts type players , most don’t have the combative heart to play against guys like that .

No, no, King Dave told them in his recent ground-breaking, über-dignified Q&A that they have a Technical Board now.

“This is in place to ensure the implementation of a Club-wide playing style, football philosophy and culture and to evaluate our progress in becoming a modern, progressive football club by measuring progress against set targets. . . . . . Evidence of our playing style can now be seen throughout all of the Rangers teams.”

    .

There are no doubt some cynics who will doubt the man, but how can they, when, in another respectful response, with unerring accuracy about the events of 2012, he tells us that. . .

“Ally was a unifying figure for the Club when we were demoted to the lower leagues”. ?

If you know the 4 year old history, right enough.

  23. BIG-CUP-WINNERS on

I’d love them to reinstate old Super-Salary.

It’s not generally a Hun-club tactic, though. Usually such failures are airbrushed out, never to be mentioned again.

Where are they now: PLG, Manchester 2008………..

Did brendan play 4-3-3 at Liverpool?

If he did, I’d expect 2 or 3 more strikers in the door. Exciting times.

When you observe that a 34 year old, rib-tickling trialist gets priority reporting over the actual signing of a highly sought after young striker, I think you would conclude that it is not Tony D who is doing the promoting!

Nevertheless, I take your point. The pages of CQN have many references to what Sevco might or might not do but there have been few mentions of our closest rivals, Aberdeen and Hearts.
