Denayer set for Galatasaray

552

Manchester City central player, Jason Denayer, will join Galatasaray before tomorrow’s transfer deadline. The central defender was on Celtic’s radar after the injury to Rivaldo Coetzee, and all other things being equal, I believe the player would be happy to head back to Celtic, where he played season 2014-15, but City are set to conclude the deal with the Turkish club.

Celtic will soon have Dedryck Boyata and Erik Sviatchenko back from injury, while Jozo Simunovic was rested for recent games on plastic pitches, but is available for selection alongside 19-year-old Kris Ajer.

With three senior central defenders already at the club, plus one development prospect, I believe City were concerned that Jason would not have seen the development opportunities he enjoyed at Celtic first time around.

  1. Good Lord, all this “the board are not backing the manager”. I would respectfully suggest that before slagging the board off, at least wait until the transfer window closes, then feel free but for the time being, stop talking merde. Panic ye not!!

Sure we need a centre half, but let’s wait and see.

  5. Nobody forces any player to play international football, in the situation our squad is in with injuries and a CL programme we are walking a tightrope but as we are often told they can get injured in training so hope for the best I suppose, is our next game on plastic at Hamilton, so Jozo wont play then either.

40 million for Alex Ox-Chamberlain?! Just crazy … this is a forward that averages a goal every 12 games! Hell, even at 51, and with a dodgy knee, I could probably manage a goal every 15 games…. and would have done it for a whole lot cheaper that 200,000 a week!

all joking aside … absolutely disgusted with the way money is thrown around in football nowadays … it wouldnt be so bad if the quality was increasing at the same pace as the wages …. but the quality of football (mostly EPL sutff ) is getting worse by the day …..

I am pretty sure Brendan is on board (excuse the pun) with the board. In Brendan I trust.

    ******

I cant think of any sport where a coach is on side with the Board (except in flashes)…. and that is understandable …. they, largely, have different perspectives

Boards go on forever, and are supposed to be looking at the big picture/long-term …. while coaches have a life expectancy of a year or two ….so, their view is usually, and understandably, must shorter term… ideally, they should be working together, but, the reality is that does not always (often?) happen …

but, as for this, Brendan has not publicly complained, so he must back the Board … not necessarliy. But, BR is clearly a shrewd operator, and isn’t going to publicly criticize the Board that employed him, and keeps him employed…..

Keep in mind, he came to Scotland to rebuild his reputation after, rightly or wrongly, being seen to have failed at Liverpool …. and winning in Scotland wont do that … he needs a few good runs in Europe …. so, I expect that privately, he may be pushing for more and better players, publicly he ins’t likely to be as vocal …

further, if he criticizes our Board, he has to know that Boards at other clubs down the road (where he might like to end up), will not hire someone that they see as a loose cannon (unless of course, you are Jose Mourinho, and bring with you titles and European championships… in which case, you get cut a bit more slack)

If the lion and the lamb can lie down together (Isiah 11:16 … that one’s for Petec), surely CQN’s moaning faced gits and Board ass-kissers can get along.

Of, for the less, theologically inclined …once again, this is Schrodinger’s cat …. unless and untl we know for sure, BR can be said to simultaneously criticize and support the Board ….

so, you are both right and wrong in equal measure …. so, why both fighting about it?

Regardless of the motives why BR was brought in, be glad, rejoice and be happy that the Board pulled out the stops to secure a great Manager. Whether he is here for this Season or until we achieve 10 and beyond, enjoy.

I for one am loving it and not one of those who have trotted back because we secured Brendan. I have been a stalwart at Celtic Park for more years than I can remember.

not a shot at you … just your post was a springing off point for my rant …. and sorry for the many typos!

  26. Ah it’s that time of year again. The time of year where the Celtic board invariable let you down but the same old excuses are trotted out like:

    – we need to get rid of the deadwood (of course ignoring that this buy cheap strategy creates the deadwood)

    – we can’t compete with (insert whoever suits you here)

    – they won’t come to Celtic

    – it’s okay we will get someone in the winter window

    – we don’t need anyone cos we have got enough ( juxtaposition end with deadwood)

    – wait till the end of the transfer window (invariably followed by wait till the next transfer window)

    – we don’t have any money

    Etc etc

Of course if anyone should question our ambition they are met with these sort of char, img remarks from champs league elect

“Tony don’t waste your energy answering the negative neds they are thick as feck I blame there upbringing it must have been so sad”

I thought the moderators were supposed to remove these sort of posts ( in which case nearly all of champs league elect’s posts would be removed). But let’s look a little closer “negative neds” a classic followed by their “upbringing” and feeling sad.

    Nice.

But of course utterly ironic as you do wonder about the upbringing of someone who reacts like this when someone disagrees with them.

I know a good pschycologist if you need one?

A few years ago I was chatting to Peter Lawwell at CP, exchanging stories of supporting Celtic. I mentioned that as a kid I had always wanted to play for Celtic and that I would have played for nothing…”Even though I’m 65 now, the offer still stands.” I joked….

Lo and behold! Today I received an e-mail from him, asking if I can play centre-back… :-)
