Denayer set for Galatasaray

552

Manchester City central player, Jason Denayer, will join Galatasaray before tomorrow’s transfer deadline. The central defender was on Celtic’s radar after the injury to Rivaldo Coetzee, and all other things being equal, I believe the player would be happy to head back to Celtic, where he played season 2014-15, but City are set to conclude the deal with the Turkish club.

Celtic will soon have Dedryck Boyata and Erik Sviatchenko back from injury, while Jozo Simunovic was rested for recent games on plastic pitches, but is available for selection alongside 19-year-old Kris Ajer.

With three senior central defenders already at the club, plus one development prospect, I believe City were concerned that Jason would not have seen the development opportunities he enjoyed at Celtic first time around.

  1. Last year i thought our biggest problem in the CL games was the lack of a defensive midfielder, a la Lenny.

BMG and Barca were able to go right through the middle of us on a number of occasions, putting the defence under real pressure. I felt if we could keep the defence intact but add to this position, we’d be much better placed in the next campaign.

I’m not sure if Ncham is exactly that player, but his ability to keep possession and his strength on the ball is a big improvement. if Dedrick and Jozo remain fit, i don’t think we are too badly placed at all.

“The selective ignorance on here astounds.

Rangers have never had any level of accountable corporate structure or governance in the past 30 years.”

Well, they’d certainly be struggling in the past 5 years given their liquidation in 2012!

The creators of the Continuity Myth must be giving it major high 55s when they see posts like this on a Celtic blog.

And you accuse others of “selective ignorance”?

    Astounding, indeed.

RIGHT you! Cut it out with the positive outlook on things, but stick around mate, lotsa negatives heading your way soon, you can’t be doing that on here ffs man, we need to spend at least £20 million :))

  6. Well we won’t be getting Denswill as he is having a medical at Brighton for a year long loan deal.

I will be disappointed if we dont sign a decent CB, which is not to say that im bashing the board, would just like a decent one to help us improve in Europe. If we can keep the ball better in europe who needs defenders ;-)

    Lennybhoy/Catman give us a sign

If Edouard signs we are pretty much a CB away from being as close to an ideal squad as possible. Maybe save your meltdowns for a real crisis, or at least until the transfer window is actually closed!

Your post is exactly the post that Peter would have posted.

In fact it’s the same nonsense we hear every year.

Let’s not spend or we will put club at risk. I kinda almost got that when we were earning only SPFL finances and the occasional Europa group level finance. But 30m last year and a likely 30m this year! We aren’t going to go bankrupt buying a CH.

Sign a “Decent”CH.What does that mean?.In my opinion we have 2 CHs that we are lucky to have. Both excellent defenders, and can play the ball on the ground. We would not be able to afford either if we were trying to buy one in this window.Never mind TGMs frothing at the mouth rhetoric. Both will play against PSG.

If,as likely,we get the French boy in,this will have been the best window I can remember.Him,Ntcham, and Paddy.Hayes as backup in the SPL,and a fantastic project in Benyu.

Ps : Just spent 20 minutes waiting in the fone q for CL tickets. Surely they should have employed another 20 operatives to allow for comfort breaks etc. : ))))

  12. The transfer price is the headline figure but ongoing wages are a huge factor, 30k a week is now considered a fairly average football wage that is 1.5 million a year.

When we hang on to bhoys like Armstrong & bring Paddy in on loan we are not acting as cheapskates we are spending millions.

We are working towards a smaller more high value squad leaving a bit of room for some of the Academy lads to step up. It is the right policy but if we are hit by a spate of injuries we can be vulnerable.

If we get the PSG Bhoy in, we are only a centre half away from an outstanding transfer window.

Sorry, thats arrant nonsense. How much money would we have to spend on a CH that will make us better in the CL?15_20 million. You have seen the prices quoted for tradesmen. Our two CHs are excellent. We were very unlucky with a 3rd.We are developing Ajer. What happens to him.Just put him so far down the list he will disappear?.When Brendan tells us that the Board are backing him,I believe him.Is he a liar?.

    Any excuse.It really is pathetic.

  14. Cultsbhoy says Hail Hail to Hector and Brendan on

    TurkeyBhoy

Surely decent means better than what we have and proven at a higher level than SPFL?

For me that would ideally be a CH who is probably just past his peak but still decent as opposed to a potentially undiscovered talent who maybe no better than what we have.

That said what we have is better than what we’ve gone in to CL in previous years although I feel still the weakest part of the squad.

  15. I don’t think it’s money.

It sounds like we met the price and wages for Denswil and Denayer but they opted for the EPL or Turkish league (and lifestyle) every week over a European run.

If the Coetzee situation hadn’t gone wrong then we would have got pretty much everything sorted this transfer window. But now we are in the mix with everyone else.

I get the disappointment at a bit of bad luck but the moaning about spending money is weird when barcelona can’t prise away Coutinho for £120m, Liverpool can’t get VVD for £80m, and a Tottenham CB with 15 games (Wimmer?) went for £18m.

I reckon we’ve done pretty well this summer.
