Deprioritised game ends predictably

601

Send out your B Team for an away game after losing at home and you should not be disappointed in the outcome.  The first half was as unstructured a performance as we have seen since the summer.  The pitch, which was terrible, can only take so much responsibility.

Stephen Welsh had a nervous return to the side, one of several poor passes fell short of Nir Bitton and led to the opening goal.  The second was perhaps the poorest of the many Celtic lost across both legs.  Bodo/Glimt didn’t so much break as saunter forward.  Anthony Ralston watched the ball, not the player peeling off behind him.  Nir Bitton was skin-tight to Vetlesen, but also watched the ball, and allowed his man time to cushion a shot into the net.  It was all too easy for Bodo.

Ange, you made your call, we all know this was one you deprioritised, we will all forgive you if the masterplan comes together.  Rather this than sorry tales come May.

Jf his best years are behind him, injury prone, and needs replaced in the summer.has had a great career with the hoops but not what we require now.

  3. I think James just needs games, and a proper pre-season.

next term he will be like a new-signing

James has, as stated, been a great servant to the club. It appears that his best days are now behind him. Ange will use him this season but beyond that? Can’t see ut.

  5. Jake McPake’s Dundee team beat Hearts at Tynecastle in the League then Peterhead in the Scottish Cup, so they decide to fire him and bring in Mark McGee – currently down 0-3 to Livi at home. Dundee Quick News would be a must visit blog if it existed – what a dumb decision.

That will be two years and i don’t think the fans will take being dumped out of Europe by teams we expect to beat.Ange will not change same as the Leeds coach. He will do well in Scotland and if that’s fine with you then no problem we are all entitled to our opinion.

I am having to reassess my views on Harry Kane. He is the real deal with a magnificent performance today. His partnership with Son was textbook.

*Harry Kane spent all his summers out in Connemara, but like a lot of Anglo Irish realised his best chance of fame and honours was to play for his native country.

  8. I noticed last night that the only European country to back Russia was Serbia, surely sevco will now be looking at a free passage into the next round.

  9. I don’t bet often however my wife who persuaded me against making a heavy ‘investment’ in France winning by over 12 points is not even looking contrite about her bad counsel.

The price of my ticket going onto Les bleu would have returned about £600 !

Almost enough to pay this weeks leccy bill !

Agree. One of the best things about CP this past 10 years. A really good thing to come from such an unbelievably tragic and unfair situation.

Building a team/style of play/identity all take time. If we are only interested in a quick fix then back to square one then things will never get better in Europe. If we are genuinely wanting to progress then he must be given time to to this. Two years, in my opinion, is not enough. Are we brave enough to stick with him, i hope so.

  12. James Forrest may need game time but his problem is that his form doesn’t warrant him getting that time.

He’s reminding me more of Jon Joe Kenny every time I see him play now with his refusal to take his man on, run in behind or make a forward pass.

I often sit round that area in the first half, the joy of the weans and the sheer enthusiasm for actully being at celtic park is something else. imagine being there for the first time, as part of an organised school trip, getting fed, gifts, juice, even the teachers and staff present just love it.

if only it could be bottled and sold as a tonic for the torn-faces.

Hibs will have the same team which won last week. Never easy at Easter Rd.

Point taken mate. Last time I read about our opponents having such problems, we drew with St Mirren.

  15. Well Dundee fans can now have a go at WGS and Mark McGhee. Mates rates, deserve everything they get.

WGS in the papers today talking about the Fergie years at Aberdeen. A period in the Dons history when all the stars aligned. All the right people in place from the boardroom to the pitch. A provincial club punching above their weight big time. Same at Forest under Clough. Also helps if the board are a bit feart of the manager.

The last time our board were a bit feart of the manager would be during the blessed Martin years. European football in the Spring, that was nice.

  16. I think James just needs games, and a proper pre-season.

next term he will be like a new-signing

    for somebody else.

  17. Aberdeen, sold out pittodrie today for the return of Alex and the new statue.

I recall Strachan one interview talking about Billy singing him and taking Archibald from Clyde (I think), and building the foundations for Ferguson to take over.

Should not be forgotten that when the huns won a treble in 78, our incredibly bad season, Billy got within 2 point of the huns in the league and lost the scottish cup final to them,

  18. remember playing dinamo kiev, just after we won the big cup, we were favourites especially at parkhead, but unfortunately it didnt work out that way, think bobby lennox scored for us, long tme ago, i was only14,.maybe you some older ghuys will remember it.

  19. Macelo Bielsa ( much trumpeted as a football managing genius by Pep Guardiola and others) seemed to be a life saver at Leeds United, claiming that he would not change his attacking style come what may!

Today, after a 4-0 drubbing by Spurs he has admiited that his football style was not working and, as a result, that shoogly peg his jaiket is on just got a wee bit mair shoogly!

    Hail! Hail!

    Terrymac

  20. Sportscene pontificating about whether the therangers result against Borussia Dortmund was the best result ever for a Scottish Club in Europe! Oh how Lisbon 1967 must still hurt them :-)

  21. BIG PACKY 1

I do remember it. As European Champions we faced Dynamo Kiev in the first round 1967/68. We lost 1-2 at home and drew 1-1 in Kiev.

We also lost 0-2 to Dunfermline at home in the first round of the Scottish Cup. The Pars went on to lift the cup, beating Hearts 3-1 in the final.

  22. I know opinion is divided over James Forrest, but he has, to date, given Celtic his all – I still think there is more to come:

    9 League Titles

    5 Scottish Cups

    5 League Cups

    TOTAL 19

    436 Appearances

    95 Goals

7 Player of the Year Awards

    (Full/Young & International)

    38 Caps & 5 Goals.

Hope he’s here for another couple of seasons and increases his honours to 20+ and his goals to 100.

Please correct me if wrong – but I believe his is second only to a certain Robert Lennox, who has 25 honours.

He is a credit to Celtic!

  23. ROCK TREE BHOY

Apart from Lisbon 1967, surely Celtic 2-1 Barcelona was a bigger result than Thursday.
