Deprioritised game ends predictably

601

Send out your B Team for an away game after losing at home and you should not be disappointed in the outcome.  The first half was as unstructured a performance as we have seen since the summer.  The pitch, which was terrible, can only take so much responsibility.

Stephen Welsh had a nervous return to the side, one of several poor passes fell short of Nir Bitton and led to the opening goal.  The second was perhaps the poorest of the many Celtic lost across both legs.  Bodo/Glimt didn’t so much break as saunter forward.  Anthony Ralston watched the ball, not the player peeling off behind him.  Nir Bitton was skin-tight to Vetlesen, but also watched the ball, and allowed his man time to cushion a shot into the net.  It was all too easy for Bodo.

Ange, you made your call, we all know this was one you deprioritised, we will all forgive you if the masterplan comes together.  Rather this than sorry tales come May.

The worst person to be around is someone who complains about everything and appreciates nothing.

  2. Tomorrow’s game on paper looks relatively simple. Hibs are missing a multitude of players including 4 that started our league cup final, that will be 5 if Porteous isn’t selected.

They play an open style of football that should suit us. Even were they to change and go for a low block, it remains open to question how good they’d be at implementing that tactic given they never play it.

High tempo from the off please, Celtic. Let’s put in a performance.

  3. I am having to reassess my views on Harry Kane.

He is the real deal with a magnificent performance today. His partnership with Son ( sorry can’t remember his full name ) was textbook.

Will Leeds hit the panic button ??????

    HH.

  4. we need our best starting 11 from now until the title is won , no time for messing about with players out with their normal .

Yes indeed, he is “the real deal”, as you say. I have always liked him, not only his ability on the park, but he comes across as a ‘down to earth’ guy who interviews well and talks sense – he’s a top pro!!!

Can anyone tell me when it became Kyiv and not Kiev ?

  7. As far as I’m concerned ,Celtic don’t have the right mix to succeed in Europe , we are far to timid a team . That midfield the other night was well off the mark , rogic and bitton are two players we cannot rely on ,after 10 minutes I thought here we go again rogic not interested , bitton thinking he was playing with his kids in the garden , o Riley really not much better , McGregor the same . To play in Europe we need a bite in midfield and defence . Are we really expecting McGregor to do browns job , have we anyone capable of doing browns job . That mob across the city have players a plenty able and willing to leave it on an opposition player , and as far as the european games I’ve seen most other teams have similar players . The team our coach put out the other night was nothing near good enough to take the tie back , he gave chances to fringe players who were not up to the task . The defence without carter vickers was very shaky , we badly need the centre of defence seriously looked at , JJ at right back looks the man , left back is iffy at the best of times that’s also needing looked at urgently , but midfield is our Achilles heel too soft by a country mile . Will that area be beefed up I am not so sure , why do I think that I feel our coach has a soft spot for a few players and may see them as undropable . But as I say tin hat on .HH

We know exactly what’s needed from here on in – we must be focused and I agree with you that our best team must take the field in each match. It’s a real pity Kyogo & Turnbull are not ‘in the mix’ at present, however we should have more than enough to see-off all opposition, bar the Ibrox lot, comfortably. The games against *Rangers are by nature, unpredictable(even though we won the last one in a canter) – let’s hope Kyogo is fit for those crucial matches.

I previously thought that Harry Kane’s game was limited to set pieces. I also thought that he was getting such favourable soundbites because of his nationality.

It seems I was wrong. I wonder if that makes me a nugget 🤔

Kiev is the Russian language version for the Ukraine capital. Kyiv is the Ukraine language version.

  12. Just a postscript on the nightmare in Bodo. I thought I detected a better performance from James Forrest – he looked a bit sharper & more motivated. We could do with the ‘old’ Jamsie on the run-in.

About the same time Londonderry became Derry.

  14. Since Russian military moves towards Ukraine, the western media have decided to use Kyiv rather than Kiev, presumably in support of Ukraine.

Agree with your comments, have been saying the same to my mates. For me jury still out an Ange, he has done really well in Scotland but deserves another year for sure.

Hope he buys players withe a bit of grit and height.IMO

    Got to agree.

I’ve been a big critic of Forrest this season but was pleasantly surprised by the improvement in his performance in Bodo.

A sort of cheapo cheapo version of a Kiev, or Kyev as they are now called.

  18. Glad you agreed – good to have someone else as a back-up.

I know he takes criticism from some, but his record speaks for itself – he is a true TIM – in that respect on a par with Paul McStay, in my opinion.

    What actually is a “nugget”?

It is a complementary term for excellence as in golden nugget. ( When discussing myself for example ) 😆😆

It can also be a derogatory term used by spiteful people.

It’s ambidextrous, take your pick. 👍👍

Thanks re Kyiv / Kiev …. Good to know.

    I should have realised that.

Our host on here reminded me yesterday how when we were in Donetsk back in 2006 or 8 it was noticeable back then there were a few stalls and groups speaking of independence from Ukraine back then. I wonder how Russian backed those were.

Horrible place back then. Especially the first time. I can still see the grey / black faces on the trucks going to the mines and can still smell the cordite from the steelworks.

Ca plus ca change however as we were well beaten twice as well. The only difference is we actually did qualify !

  21. Well that’s the nugget thing sorted….now QED.

QED means you’ve proven something. It’s pretentious to use it when you’re not discussing a proof, and embarrassing to use it you’re just ranting(on CQN) and not even remotely proving anything.

Just one more year? So we try to build something with a manager in place who has a plan and is doing that but if he doesn’t tick the “success” box after one more year, we bin him…..and so it will go on…

  23. James Forrest has been a tremendous servant and asset for Celtic since the youth academy.

Although only 30, I do wonder if Angeball will suit his style and fitness. I really like James and I hope I am worrying unnecessarily

Is that like you using the law of diminishing returns to explain how our academy is going to the dogs when you don’t know what it actually is?

Thans guys for clearing that up. I also wondered about it.
