Discipline, provocation and a place in the semis

473

There will be no one better prepared to take a team to Easter Road tomorrow than Neil Lennon, but while Hibernian fans are likely to feel generously to their former manager, by all accounts there is little love lost between him and the Hibs players.  They will give everything for a place in the Scottish Cup semi-final.

Neil has only had a few days with the players and I doubt he will have changed anything.  John Kennedy is his assistant specifically to ensure continuity at this time.

If our reception at Tynecastle is any kind of weathervane on how we will be received tomorrow (I suspect it is), the most important quality we will need is discipline.  Our treble treble could go on the line through rashness, provoked or otherwise.    Remain composed, pass the ball and get forward with the pace we possess, and a place in the semi-final is ours.

  1. NFL- will be as successful as our custodians want him to be.

In other words, if they keep him and back him the way they did BR, then we will have the same outcome, as Lenny is a marvellous coach.

Does BR use technology etc to his advantage, yes, is Lenny old school, probably, but Lenny will get us there through grit, determination, passion, support and hard work.

This is an individual that has had to fight mental health issues, sectarianism, bigotry, establishment bias and adversity against him his whole life and comes through every time with success, imagine if our board were to back him… Wow. We are going on another journey here bhoys and Ghirls, so buckle up and enjoy it. ??

I am Neil Lennon, we are all Neil Lennon.?

  2. WIN Celtic – No problemo if we Draw. Lose then we are back to being Human!!!!!

Perhaps we need that Reality Checque in the Boardroom?

Never Forget about the Love for Celtic From EVERYWHERE.

  3. What a week! Not sure what Rodgers was thinking of – he has a massive ego but I would have thought he’d hang around until summer so as to get a statue to go with his large portrait!

Anyway, tough gig for Lawwell and the Board now to rebuild the entire management structure. If I were in his shoes I’d offer WGS a Director of Football/Technical Director post – in charge of everything football wise: scouting (hopefully more onus on the Nakas, Robson’s and Borucs than the Caldwells, Killens and Riordens); youth development (he did a lot of work on that with the SFA who promptly binned it when they binned him); sport science; performance analysis; medical Department; overall ethos (if not playing style) of the football department. I’m sure he’s not the doyen of all these things but has great networks and has shown a willingness to learn.

I’d be happy for Lenny to keep the job until we get 10 (hopefully) and ideally I want 13 to get to 55 before THEM, so having WGS there would provide continuity should Lenny leave….

  4. The quote “When brendan was leaving, he….”. The he in the sentence is Peter Lawwell according to most transcripts I can find.

  5. GlassTwoThirdsFull on

Maybe BR could have said to JK that there was a job for him at Leicester in the summer if the next Celtic manager didn’t want him?

    Anyway, let’s look forward!

  6. Eurochamps

That was my exact thinking as well. In the past, the board had loads of opportunities to back him up and never once did they when he suffered at the hands of the bigots, so why does anybody think that will change in the future.

Why the club takes all that crap is a complete mystery, but take it they do.

But if Lenny does get full support from the board then he will succeed, no doubt about it

  7. As the game in on premier sports, can anyone recommend anywhere in the byres road area that will definitely show it?

I called the tennents bar but the boy wasn’t sure it they’d be showing it. Just trying to make sure we have a backup.

Just curious.Peter Lawwell when interviewed outside the ground said Celtic had spoken to a few candidates for the interim managers position. Any idea who the others may have been?

There s no reason why JK could not have been asked to prepare the team for last Wednesday and still followed BR down the road at a later date.

It is not uncommon for additional coaching staff to be appointed when the No 1 heads out the door.

Regards all the conflicting stories, truth and lies, the one fact is that the team manager left the club suddenly on the day before a big game and a few days before an arguably bigger game, without even telling his own squad.

    Classless.

We are talking Leicester City here. Not what one would call a once in a lifetime job opportunity.

In a LC press conference, one of the staff down there said that Rodgers was offered to opportunity to “oversee things from up there”.

    He refused the offer.

I speculate to wonder did fear creep into Rodgers head?

Fear of not delivering the TT?

When he looked at his injury list, I think that is our biggest hurdle to overcome, did he start to doubt?

He has bottled it before and created the legend that is Slippy G.

Anyway that is all speculation on my part.

What we have left with is that he sneaked out the back door.

  11. BR’s wanted to leave so did. Celtic did what Celtic do, they got as such money out of Lcfc as they could for the whole coaching team. No different to how Celtic act when players want out. Celtic made the correct decision.

If any of our players got the option to go to england or anywhere else for 100k a week few would question them. Celtic would look to get as much money as possible.

I would imagine Celtic will continue and try to build on the structure put into place over the past 3 years and any coach coming in will be expected to be part of the bigger cog, rather than an overseer of all things football.

Celtic will continue to sign up younger players With potential resale value and will continue to look at to academy as will.

Despite all the talk about downsizing after BR’S goes the truth is we did not actually altered our approach in the transfer market greatly, outwith sinclair, compper and ddv. Bonuses were much higher cause we done well to reach c/l group a could of times and our squad grew way too large. That particular issue will be redressed this summer.

  18. Neil Lennon is the perfect anti dote to the snake.

Classic irony, that we’ve to call in the most racially abused man in Scotland to lead Celtic in the latest leg of the league winning sequence,( he started.

Very lucky to have a proven winner, to pick up the gauntlet and he shouldn’t be scoffed at because ‘Scotland’ doesn’t like him.

Every Celtic manager is a fenian bastard, or simply becomes one, whose style do we prefer in the year of the quitter? who couldn’t even put his career on hold for 12 weeks for any reasons, whatever they were.

I want NFL to succeed firstly, if he does he’s likely to be around a lot longer than your ordinary or run of the mill fenian bastards.

( always)…… and when , for example’ a well paid, trusted senior manager with a well-know football club with European pedigree chucks it, mid-conversation, and walks oooot, I’ll just pick up my list and give the fellas a wee call – Bob’s Yer Auntie!

In-fact, that’s what I’ll call it…”Hullo Bob’s Yer Auntie” here, how may I direct your call?

“What’s That? ……….You’ve just walked out on Scunthorphe? Ok, do ye fancy taking over at Boca Juniors, Rushden and Diamonds or Yeovil Town?

Harry Brady seems to have accurate information on BR from the China move in the summer to now.

He reckons Brendan and Rafa Benitez were interviewed the week previous and that Leicester slightly favoured Benitez.

The reason they went for Rodgers was that he was prepared to move now and Benitez would not jump ship mid season

  22. Crazy week… and a great finale to it looming today. Watched the “behind the scenes” video on Celtic TV yesterday and it was great to see Neil getting re-acquainted with old friends and being introduced to other members of the family – Broonie’s greeting was tremendous. Looking forward to him being at Celtic for as long as possible…. Hail Hail to Neil Francis Lennon… welcome back !

Fact is the moonlighter left us high and dry and was prepared to gut the

Why is our team always leaked? Strange if big Lustig is back given that Hibs apparently always targeted that side. Having said that the new bhoy has not exactly covered himself in glory defensively getting caught wrong side on a number of occasions. Let’s get our pacey front four involved early doors and it won’t matter if I’m at right back.

Given the clear out in summer, i would give ML another year, we will need experienced men ,who know what is required to play for us.

    110% spot on

Now, I was a huge fan of our previous manager, and would always thank him for what he delivered, and vast improvement in numerous players, I really appreciated many younger Bhoys getting an opportunity.

I will never understand his decision, but I will always 100% see things through my green ( not tinted) glasses

A will repeat huge concerns I expressed in January (always plan for the future)

We have De Vries, Gamboa, Lustig, Boyata, Benkovic, Izaguirre, Allen, Burke, Weah, all leaving us a team end of May/June

( several others move into last 12 months of their deals, and Yes we should be moving others on – Compper and Hendrie as a start in other list)

We have at minimum a new defence to build

    So

Who now identifies and signs our new squad ?

Incidentally hope our ex-manager takes Mr Congerton with him

So hopefully we get 8, planning should in place now to ensure 9 & 10 can be achieved, with a better quality lower in numbers squad

    One other thing

I read we need to drastically reduce our squad payroll – why ? Over past 3 seasons we have put over £50m in the bank ( counting £6m we got through the week)

Our payroll will be reduced as no Champions league bonus money to be paid out

    Now finally

Stay focussed for this afternoon Bhoys

PPS – should Lenny add Broonie to his coaching team, through to end of season ????
