Dollars and Celtic’s diminishing Australia market

306

Right from the off, Celtic knew there was a chance Newco would pull out of the Sydney Super Cup.  We negotiated a better package, the right to announce the tour and to call it the Ange Homecoming Tour.  Newco were fully occupied with the prospect of a couple of million landing in the bank, knowing nothing about their commercial value, compared to Celtic.

When the league breaks for the World Cup, Ange Postecoglou will head home for the first time in three years.  It is an opportunity for Celtic to garner support in an important foreign market.

Emigration from Scotland to America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand dropped off in recent decades.  As a consequence, a large portion of Celtic supporters in these markets moved there over 30 years ago.  They are older and are not a market that will foster support too far into the future.  Despite having an Australian legend as manager, without some work, our commercial prospects there diminishing.

Competing for eyeballs outside the almighty EPL is difficult, but the Almighty has given us a ladder.  We have a high-profile event taking place in Australia in five months, set to generate future dollars and fans.  We also have a high profile in Japan, a market I see little effort put into, outside of social media.  A 2023 Japanese tour is needed.

I have wee look in during the week … I can get over any Celtic loss … it makes winning even better BUT I can say one thing for an absolute fact …. NO champions league qualifiers is like winning a league … many a holiday has been “effected” with early season qualifiers, without a shadow of a doubt … I love us not facing Cluj, Athens etc … insert your own hurdle

Cheers! A pal of mine and me were discussing the best punk song ever. We weren’t especially fans of The Damned at the time but we agreed that, jeez, the raw love of New Rose was the yardstick against which any punk song had to be measured. Still my fave punk toon of all time [tho Neat Neat Neat runs a close 2nd]

    .

Must say I am in agreement with you , we’re are no worse off but still lacking in the two positions that we need , another centre back and definitely a midfield enforcer . With regards to our left back he seems well thought of as a player would have preferred him taller , finally do we need Jordan larsson I think we have more pressing positions to fill . HH

Football Fans in Ireland ,apart from the few Huns around, for the most part follow the EPl.

Almost to a man they would say Celtic is their second team.

There is obviously a smaller totally Celtic Support who don’t give a feck about the EPL.

I must have been asked a thousand times over the years what team I support.

When I say Celtic the response is ah Yea , I support Celtic too but who do you support in the EPL.

I get a blank look, when I say I have no interest in the EPL & rarely watch a game.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I agree with you 100% and have lived a similar experience. I do think the Press deliberately ignore Celtic – even the Irish News.

JimTim…am curious…will this midfield enforcer only be needed/effective in Europe…with how we play domestically am curious/unsure how much of a priority this type of player will fit

Good morning all from Govanhill. Meeting the Lurking Tim in the Quaich today at 1pm. Any of you raving drunks wanting to join us you are most welcome.

  18. Further to my post at 01.12 hrs pm.

I note an audience of 3.7 m watched the England Ladies game against Austria. Furthermore 750 k watched it on I player.

This a a massive market and we must embrace it.

How about consultancy status for Erin Slaven, Oriaith Duffy and Mikaelia McKinlay ( The females who successfully campaigned to secure free access to sanitary products in CP. The first team in the UK to do so )

They have already worked with Celtic and the cooperation could be mutually beneficial in growing Celtic in this valuable, modern and important market.

Government has a cabinet position for woman’s rights and equality, it is not too fanciful to have a prominent position at a modern football club.

    HH, we never stop.

  19. Yet again, awoken by a CQN news update !!!

I cannot find a way to unsubscribe and the 24hr a day updates waking me at all hours even when logged out of CQN page.

    How can I unsubscribe ??

Thanks for your reply . I think those of us ( and maybe those of an older age ) who watched the cup semi final would have wished for a wee Bertie ,Davy hay or Roy aitken on the field , no doubt the mib played a part with the thuggery on our skilful players but there are some meaty tackles go in on european nights as well . I may be wrong wanting a tough player in our team but we have some very skilful players , but very small non aggressive players , but just my opinion as always pal HH.

  21. THELURKINTIM – like you I wonder about this apparent lack of a DM/enforcer when we have several decent midfielders that can’t get a game. But then I think of how John Lundstram will be allowed to foul at will when we play sevco a minimum of 4 times, and think we definitely need someone with a bit of steel that can stand up to him.
