Doncaster beats No Surrender Longmuir

948

The appointment of Neil Doncaster as chief executive of the newly formed Scottish Professional (sic) Football League was a forgone conclusion, No Surrender Longmuir was interviewed out of professional courtesy, and the clubs realised that the calibre of external candidates they would attract at the moment would be from the bottom of the corporate pile.  Frankly, a heavy hitter would not apply.

Now that Doncaster is freed from his previous preoccupation – trying to parachute a new club into top flight football – he can worry about his key performance indicators, bringing commercial income into the league.  If he can’t deliver a good deal, or scams a ‘Homecoming’-type deal, by pulling money already committed by a benefactor, like his pal along the corridor, we’re better off without him.

My thanks to Billy No’well for inviting me onto his podcast show, Desert Island Tims, available here.  I had great fun choosing material for the show and even more fun talking about Celtic, and life, with Billy.

Italian media still saying he will be signing for PSG . 63 million euros . 5 year contract 10 million euros a year —but there is a wee snag and he hasn’t put pen to paper yet .

Napoli FC’s official radio station has stated that the deal is on but there is a difficulty re image rights . They claim that PSG want 50% but Cavani is saying no — I want 100 %. Radio said the problem should be resolved by Tuesday .

Sheltered in a beach bar , atmospheric conditions meant no TV signal – owner decided to show a DVD – Italia Vergogna —-a compilation of Italy’s biggest fitba disasters — North Korea / Ireland / the Baggio penalty miss etc [ maybe weighed down by the Fulton comparison] Long time since I’ve seen the North Korea game –a doing . Nice clip of the team being pelted with tomatoes when they returned to Italy .

    Sma’ Shot Day…

Sma Shot Day takes place on the first Saturday of July.

The day starts with a Procession setting off from the Dooslan Stane at Brodie Park, winding its way through the streets of Paisley before ending up at Abbey Close, where a fair is held.

At the head of the procession is the Charlston Drummer, pounding out the call to the Buddies of Paisley to follow the marchers.

Following behind are effigies of the infamous Cork, local dignitaries and banners from the old weaver villages of Paisley.

Sma’ Shot Day originates from the weaving industry, which, in the 19th century made Paisley and the surrounding area one of the major textile producing areas in the British Empire. The sma’ shot was a binding thread which held together the patterned shawls which Paisley is famous for. But, because the sma shot was never seen in the finished shawls the manufacturers refused to pay the weavers for the yarn. After many years of dispute, the weavers won their cause. In celebration the traditional July holiday was renamed Sma’ Shot Day and is celebrated on the first Saturday in July.

  13. I have the mother of all hangovers today, but sometimes you wake up and no matter how bad you feel it is just great being a Celtic fan. Imagine going out and banging the bigoted drum, is there an IQ level test to become a member of the oo. Do they not look at the state of these people and think, oh hold on a minute, they are absolute funuggets I don’t want anything to do with that.

Asked Andy Brassell ‏(Freelance European football writer & broadcaster for BBC, The Independent, ESPN, The Blizzard, Four Four Two, @andybrassell) about him as he knows Portuguese football quite well.

‘He looks good. Big, very awkward. Needs developing & polish but keen to work hard to get in Portugal squad.’

Hopefully he is not another Murphy, Rasmussen, or Fortune type.

on annual leave this week so decided, due mainly to boredom, to count available seats to get a rough estimate of season tickets sold. I deducted non-season ticket sales areas, and anything between 3 and 6 rows per section of the upper tier. I reckon 50,000 tickets sold, excluding directors box, premium areas etc… hopefully Celtic will announced actual figure soon.

celtic are making a number of improvements throughout the stadium and we’re getting updated on a weekly basis about the improvements and changes taking place. I would like to think the last announcement from celtic with regards improved facilities will be the biggest i.e. with first phase of the celtic triangle commencing with completion date for April/ May 2014
