Double time for Celtic

780

It is nonsense to talk about Hampden Hoodoos, Celtic’s five defeats there since Neil Lennon became manager have been a result of poor performances, not superstition (fighting the urge to mention two last minute penalty decisions).  Celtic were unquestionably the stronger team on four of those five occasions, arguably all five, but they have been tactically out-thought at the national stadium time after time.

We are vastly stronger than Dundee United but once the whistle goes tomorrow, unless we can match them for hunger, arrest the defensive lapses which have blighted us all season, and find the key to breakdown what will be a tight defence, there is no reason to believe the outcome will be any different than when we faced a weaker St Mirren.

Shortly before that St Mirren defeat I said we were not playing consistently to win the treble we were short odds for.  Consistency hasn’t improved much since, which is why you are hearing talk coming out of Lennoxtown about this being the biggest game of the season.

It’s double time….

agree with both your comments..firstly about lennys unfortunate but common place bad language,it exists by coaches through out football at all levels and has done probibly for too long..its not neccessary from a celtic manager and is cringeworthy when heard..does it do any good?

I lived in mt.flo for 14 years and during our unfortunate rental spell at hampdump i hated every minute having my season book in that place because i knew some of my hard erned was going into sfa coffers..since then i’ve been to hampden four times two of them last year only cause my nephew wanted me to go..drat! Today i will watch our celts from a pub and will only ever attend hampen when the corrupt and the colluded have gone..might never see inside the place again..it hurts inside me to do it because i have had great memories watching the hoops in there in the distant past..the pricing of the games in the last few years has been great thats one thing i’l give credit for..our own club has at last started to realise the same with great pricing for the two home games in the split…why do we not have a parent and child gate and an unemployed gate at future games at Celtic park???

My thoughts exactly. We always look as if we”ll move up a couple of gears if we need to and invariably we don’t and it backfires. We need to seize the initiative.

I totally understand the many reasons for not going but I love winning there and we haven’t done enough of it recently. They don’t like us but the feeling is mutual and winning semi-finals and cup finals in front of their jealous eyes fills me with happiness.

Memories of the huge Hampden crowds and successes (’85/88) have been vivid on the blog this week; it’s about time we got some recent ones.

Having watch Thomson thro the week , and taking into account Mibbery, I’m not overly confident of a competent display

Scottish refereeing has little chance if progressing while they have Thomson,Collum,McLean,Madden,Brines et al in the “elite” tier …..overpaid incompetents

Well done mate, at last someone standing up for what’s right.

  12. Regular off-side calls cost less than penalties to begin with. When you go to a 4th official you will notice that the goal-line technology version of the off-side rule is about a thousand bucks cheaper. Sometimes a thousand dollars seems like not not so much when it comes to buying a new UEFA position, but forget about the game itself, think of what you can do with an extra $1000.

In the long run, MIBbery require less service, thus making progression cheaper too.

Once again Regan provides prima facie evidence of his incompetence

Either that or it’s a plainly disingenuous statement

Another incompetent at the head of Scottish football

  18. So we are back to having Rangers and The Rangers, Sevco 5088 Ltd and Sevco Scotland Ltd, all in the picture.

It looks to me like there are a couple of possible reasons for the two Sevcos. Either someone made an error by establishing Sevco 5088 Ltd in England and then set up Sevco Scotland Ltd to correct this. Or there is a darker reason involving the assets going to a company controlled by Green alone rather than one that Whyte was involved with.

But then one of two things could have happened to the assets of the liquidated club. They could have first been sold to Sevco 5088 Ltd – as per the exclusivity agreement – and then passed on somehow (illegally??) to Sevco Scotland Ltd. Or they could have gone directly to the latter. And this would mean that Duff and Phelps acted incorrectly (and possibly illegally??) by selling to a company other than the one that had paid for exclusivity and without any other interested parties having the opportunity to bid.

I hope BDO are looking at all of the paperwork with a big magnifying glass and the very finest of tooth combs.

That must have been some feeling. My granda regaled me with many tales of Hampden triumphs and real world record crowds. I always found it a magical place-my first Celtic game was there ’75-but the redevelopment ripped the heart and character right out of it and as MWD says, you end up watching the big screens.

I’m in the south stand today and I’m praying the Bhoys on and off the park are up for it.

art of war – it’s far more enjoyable driving a wee five speed gear bucket of scrap, but an automatic is more practical and less effort.Lazy folk love them motors. They are difficult to steal for some reason, joy riders don’t go near them, less fun probably. The Yanks & ze Germans swear by automatics.

It’s about time we all stood shoulder to shoulder and removed that corrupt lot from office before brother Campbell ruins our game for good for the benefit of 1 team.

  22. Scotland’s National Stadium reflects the people who run our game, it is the mirror of their inadequacies, the summit of their ambitions, their distance and contempt for the people who are the lifeblood of the game…

C’mon Celtic stick it to these idiots in the SFA today show them that we can play football no matter how much they hinder us and the growth of the game..
