Double time for Celtic

780

It is nonsense to talk about Hampden Hoodoos, Celtic’s five defeats there since Neil Lennon became manager have been a result of poor performances, not superstition (fighting the urge to mention two last minute penalty decisions).  Celtic were unquestionably the stronger team on four of those five occasions, arguably all five, but they have been tactically out-thought at the national stadium time after time.

We are vastly stronger than Dundee United but once the whistle goes tomorrow, unless we can match them for hunger, arrest the defensive lapses which have blighted us all season, and find the key to breakdown what will be a tight defence, there is no reason to believe the outcome will be any different than when we faced a weaker St Mirren.

Shortly before that St Mirren defeat I said we were not playing consistently to win the treble we were short odds for.  Consistency hasn’t improved much since, which is why you are hearing talk coming out of Lennoxtown about this being the biggest game of the season.

It’s double time….

  1. So EBT Walter is in the Sun this morning praising Celtic and Neil Lennon hmmm.

I wonder where he was when Neil was getting death threats.

  2. Come on Celtic lets put in a good performance today at Hampden we are overdue one. And lets hope that the dark side will finally get their comeuppence!

  3. Attendance today?

    Relative to a Celtic game?

It will be very poor, and blamed on hunmageddon. Which seems to be a long, lingering, painful endurance for everyone that feckin knew them.

  7. Morning,

Just read Walter Smith’s nonsense in the Herald. Celtic need Sevco in the SPL and so does everyone else.

Sevco on the other hand, who are losing £1M a month are not bothered about being in the SPL.

Lennon:He has no fear of hoodoos and cites the arrival of Alex McLeish as Rangers manager halfway through 2001-02 as proof that the numbers, and fate, can swiftly change. “For the first four Old Firm games where Big Eck was in charge, he won two and lost two and people thought he had the Indian sign over Martin O’Neill. Then Martin went on and won the next seven. So hoodoos are there to broken and if you want to call it a hoodoo, I hope we break ours.”

  9. Lawwell is keen to put in perspective the meeting at which County supporters informed the club’s board of their opposition to the plan. He said that their views should be compared with those of the 9,000 Celtic season ticket holders who did not attend their recent home match against Hibs.

“I think there were 130 fans at the meeting Roy held that night. With the greatest of respect, we have 9,000 fans not turning up and they’ve paid for it. That puts it into context, I think.”

  12. Seems our supports commitment to the Scottish cup is on par with the teams recent efforts at Hampden.

It’s a shame as folk will be quick to moan if the players don’t perform in a Hampden atmosphere vacuum.

Jock Stein famously said football without fans is nothing.

It will be hard for our team to get up for today when they can visibly see how little it matters to the support.

Far from a foregone conclusion. The real supporters who attend really need to get behind the team today. Not just turn up expecting to be entertained. Hail Hail.

The Sevco timeline when read in conjunction with Duff and Phelps official reports makes for interesting reading

    March 29 …

    .Sevco 5088 formed

    May 3…….

.Green appointed Director of Sevco 5088

May 9 …..Whyte and Earley appointed Directors of Sevco 5088

    May 23 ….

Green signs forms confirming disapplication of shareholder rights. Effectively canceling the rights of Whyte and Earley to receive share options

    May 29

    Sevco Scotland formed

    May 29

Duff and Phelps issue CVA proposals naming Sevco 5088 as preferred bidder, with a legally binding contract to purchase assets regardless of whether CVA succeeds or fails

    June 12

    CVA rejected

    June 14

Sevco Scotland purchase assets from Duff and Phepls, despite creditors never having been informed of Sevco Scotland’s existence, far less of their new status as the preferred bidder. There was an obligation in the CVA document for Duff and Phelps to issue a failure certificate should the legally binding contract with Sevco 5088 not crystallize. They issued no such certificate

    July 10

Duff and Phelps issue interim report. For the first time they report that the owner of the assets is Sevco Scotland

    December 27

Green signs forms to wind up Sevco 5088

    Summary

It appears that Green has persuaded Duff and Phelps that Sevco Scotland is a successor company to Sevco 5088. This however is not legally correct. They are separate entities. Whyte will argue, with some justification , that Green acted illegally on at least 3 occasions.

1 He removed the entitlement of Whyte and Earley to own shares at a board meeting that they were not informed of and therefore could not attend. A board needs a Quorum to hold a meeting, and 1 out of 3 does not constitute a Quorum.

2 He represented to Duff and Phelps that Sevco Scotland was a successor to Sevco 5088, and he did not have the approval of the Sevco 5088 board to do so

3 He attempted to strike of Sevco 5088, thereby getting rid of the opportunity for other documents to be lodged, and he did this without the approval of the Sevco 5088 board

All of the above enabled Green to become the beneficial owner of approximately £4million worth a Rangers shares at a cost of roughly £40,000.

Everything I have written here is recorded at Companies House and in Duff and Phelps Official reports. The non executive directors at Rangers do not need an independent enquiry to decide Greens future. The facts are readily available. Their job is to interpret the information and make a decision. The Non execs are being paid a total of £220,000 a year for part time work. They need to start making decisions and not passing the buck

The only possible question they may want answered is from Duff and Phelps. ” What did Charles Green do to prove to you that Sevco Scotland was a successor company to Sevco 5088″

I very strongly suspect the answer will be we needed a Scottish registered business to own an SFA member club and as the shareholders are the same it’s a technical and adminstrative necessity

Based on the timeline above and the questionable legality of Greens actions the asset sale may be illegal, the IPO illegal and the SFA and SFL memberships improperly awarded

This isn’t just about Green, it’s about much more, and should be the subject of a Police investigation

  17. TBJ,

It’s not funny really – just a representation of hunnery and what goes on in their family lives…:)))

    Uhuhuhuhuh.

First time I saw it, I thought, yep, that’s defo “Durrantie” and his family…

  18. Burnley78 at 0818.

I think that’s very unfair. There are many reasons why people will not be at Hampden today:

    family commitments, financial constraints etc.

To lambast those of us who have chosen not to go as not caring about the game is very unfair.

Personally, I have a young family and I just cant justify attending every game anymore. I will still pay for my season ticket, will make it available gratis to friends and family when I can’t go, and I remain in the home Cup scheme.

So financially I am still supporting the club as before.

But to expect 100% attendance from everyone is unrealistic…

  19. Burnley

I know a large number of fans who are refusing to attend Hampden in protest against the SFA ….I’m one too

Not apathy re commitment to the team

Personally I’d withdraw the team from the cup until the SFA put their house in order …which starts with the resignation of RCO…

  20. Sadly most of those defeats at hamdump have been because we have a lack of goalscoring forwards

we have only one striker who is a goalscorer who would be automatic pick

bit sad we must do better

  21. ItaliaBhoy/ Burnley78

You not missing out the real reason, the big reason?

Fewer and fewer of us give a flyin toss about it.

    It means nothing.

We have the SPL and Europe, but even the rest of the SPL are seeing it for what is.

Aye, Hibs fans were celebrating yesterday….and they were great company…but 90% of them didn’t even consider going there (my estimate). Usually Hibees would bring a massive support to cup games at that stage.

Yet, the support at games in the SPL has been very good. We all want to get out there and support our teams. But there’s no trust, which is why the Cup games have become meaningless. If I was to be on a winning team and have to face Campbell Ogilvie to take a medal off him, ….well, I can’t say what I’d do.

SFA/ Huns are killing Scottish Football. Not killed it. Killing it. And no one is hitting the feckin life support button.

We’re all watching it happen. While we have enough good clubs, well-supported, to make a good league, and get this country out of feckin 79th place in Europe. Hah. But we won’t. Until it totally collapses.

  22. Italiabhoy

A very good article from TSFM

I can’t quite decide whether Green has shafted Whyte from the outset ….or whether they had some form of rogues bargain that Green has reneged on

I suspect that the deal has gone sour as Whyte realised that Sevco were running out of cash and has made a claim on Green which he has rebuffed

I havent missed a cup semi in yonks… hate the place. .. hate the performances and results.

Im fortunate. .. I live about 3 miles from hampden … and my personal circumstances allow me the time and money to follow my team.

But I really considered missing todays match… mainly due to the sfa .

But I have felt at the last few visits to hampden.. that our support let’s us down each time ( as well as the team / manager)

Hearts… st mirren… killie.. ross county… falkirk. .. all created a better atmosphere on the day.

Our support at days like today is often made up of a lot of parents with their kids. No harm to them but if that was bolstering a strong vocal support that would be great. But when they make up around 50% of our reduced numbers… it has an effect on the atmosphere

So I bought my ticket yesterday and while I wish everyone who could afford a ticket would do so… I understand the reasons not to.

But if they choose not to go along… imho.. they should temper criticism of the team with their decision not to support the team as best they can.
