Double time for Celtic

780

It is nonsense to talk about Hampden Hoodoos, Celtic’s five defeats there since Neil Lennon became manager have been a result of poor performances, not superstition (fighting the urge to mention two last minute penalty decisions).  Celtic were unquestionably the stronger team on four of those five occasions, arguably all five, but they have been tactically out-thought at the national stadium time after time.

We are vastly stronger than Dundee United but once the whistle goes tomorrow, unless we can match them for hunger, arrest the defensive lapses which have blighted us all season, and find the key to breakdown what will be a tight defence, there is no reason to believe the outcome will be any different than when we faced a weaker St Mirren.

Shortly before that St Mirren defeat I said we were not playing consistently to win the treble we were short odds for.  Consistency hasn’t improved much since, which is why you are hearing talk coming out of Lennoxtown about this being the biggest game of the season.

It’s double time….

Regan trotted that guff out at the same time as football commentators , football pundits , studio experts and football journalists across Europe were describing Thomson’s performance as disgraceful , disastrous and supportive of the cynical belief that UEFA have an agenda re who gets to progress in UEFA competitions.

My feeling is they have fallen out. Whyte thought he had a deal, but was “shafted” (as Green said).

The role of D&P is unclear. They were supposed to be Whyte’s men but have they wittingly or unwittingly helped Green shaft Whyte?

    Celtic back league reconstruction proposals

By: Laura Brannan on 14 Apr, 2013 09:00

AHEAD of Monday´s meeting of SPL clubs, Chief Executive Peter Lawwell has re-iterated Celtic´s position with regards to the league reconstruction vote.

The Club has given careful and considerable thought to the proposal of a 12-12-18 league structure and has maintained Celtic´s decision to vote for the change.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow´s meeting, Peter Lawwell said the proposed changes would bring huge benefits to Scottish football.

“We are coming to the end of the process and it´s either change or the status quo,” the Chief Executive explained. “When you look across over the wall, if it doesn’t happen, then what is the flip side? And the flip side is it stays the same. That, to me, is not palatable.

“From Celtic´s point of view, come Monday night if it doesn’t go through, we´ll be disappointed because we put a lot of work into it and we see it as the right thing for the game.

“It would be unfortunate for the longer term interests of the whole game in Scotland as it would be a huge opportunity lost.”

He continued by outlining the reasons why the Club is backing the proposals, explaining how these will benefit the greater good.

“Firstly, we are very, very close,” he continued. “And we felt it was unanimous, up until recently, that this should be taken forward.

“The second reason is because we think it is right for the game. It´s not perfect but it´s the best available. The reason we think that is because it gives the one body which is a positive. It gives redistribution to the SFL which actually transforms, financially, the majority of the SFL clubs.

“And it also provides more meaningful games and that I think we can see even in the last week. The last three times we went to St Mirren there were 6,000 there. Nine thousand were at the Ramsden´s Cup final, so too at Partick Thistle against Morton, and St Mirren also took about 17,000 to Hampden.

“When there is something to play for, when there are meaningful games, the fans come out. It will give more meaningful games and therefore more attraction to the fans. Therefore, more attraction to broadcasters and therefore more attraction to sponsors.

“It will also give us stability. We´ve been at this for three years and we´ve never come as close to an agreement. I think stability is vital. If we get two or three years´ stability it gives the league credibility and something back to our broadcasters and sponsors. In football, stability is everything.”

Peter Lawwell was disappointed to learn of St Mirren´s position towards the proposal but is hopeful all other clubs can work together to take the game forward.

“We´re disappointed there appears to be some positions changed in recent weeks but we respect the right of every club to have their own vote,” he said. “We believe in the voting structure for the protected items because these are huge decisions with huge implications.

“We respect the fact they have to do what is right for them but we have to take into account what is right for Scottish football. We respect the right but we need to understand the reasons for clubs would want to vote against this.”

Many Europeans find it intriguing that incompetent Scottish Officials keep getting big European games . 16 UEFA 2013 quarter final games —— 2 of them given to Scottish incompetents . . They are publicly wondering why .

  24. Independent investigation .why go to that length . Just forget about it . No one else is bothering . We can do as we like .

  25. Hampden Hoodoo ? Sshhmoodoo…..for me. We have two things to worry about and only two , complacenecy and the MIB`s .

Regan`s defence of Thomson was accurate , because Thomson was let down by two linesmen primarily., doesn`t defend his performance in the San Siro though. Regan`s silence over Sevco is indefensible, once gain he is being pulled along with events waiting to do what he is told.

It won`t be Hampden in the sun for me (or anyone) as I am having the old fellow over as I have reinstalled Sky for a month. We have never watched Celtic win on telly for years I am ashamed to say, just bad luck I hope and not a hoodoo.
