Double time for Celtic

780

It is nonsense to talk about Hampden Hoodoos, Celtic’s five defeats there since Neil Lennon became manager have been a result of poor performances, not superstition (fighting the urge to mention two last minute penalty decisions).  Celtic were unquestionably the stronger team on four of those five occasions, arguably all five, but they have been tactically out-thought at the national stadium time after time.

We are vastly stronger than Dundee United but once the whistle goes tomorrow, unless we can match them for hunger, arrest the defensive lapses which have blighted us all season, and find the key to breakdown what will be a tight defence, there is no reason to believe the outcome will be any different than when we faced a weaker St Mirren.

Shortly before that St Mirren defeat I said we were not playing consistently to win the treble we were short odds for.  Consistency hasn’t improved much since, which is why you are hearing talk coming out of Lennoxtown about this being the biggest game of the season.

It’s double time….

  4. FFM @10:40 frets “What’s the licencing laws on a Sunday since the SNP changed things? Can I buy a 6 pack just now, or do I need to get a non-catholic to do it for me??”

Just stand outside the offy and ask a man to buy it for you.

Good morning FFM. Haven’t seen much of you lately.

    How are things?

I’m going up town on Wednesday to attend the funeral.

    Back turned. Naturally.

    I’m anticipating adverse comment.

    Any advice?

  5. If Alex O’ Henley is correct that the SFL will decide what league SevCo play in if reconstruction goes ahead, then we already know what Longmuir, Bannatyne will decide.

2 things i sincerely hope for now.

    1. Reconstruction fails

    2. Or the fans block this blatant cheating once again

Otherwise it looks like this could be my last ever season of watching Scottish football.

  6. Now looking just a wee bit brighter in ole EK, about 7 miles from Hampden. Roll on Lorne at the back door then off to the game. Golf booked for 4.25 (weather and penalties permitting)

Our club will be the losers in the end mate, there’s a few decent guys who never miss a game who have turned away for good.

It’s like the school bully you let him away with it he will keep on doing it, why is Turnbull Hutton the only man to speak out and yet our club the biggest attraction says nothing, disgusting.

I think there is a wee bit of hysteria (understandably) with regard to which league Sevco will

play in, but there is absolutely no question, that they cannot, and will not ‘skip’ a league.

No matter what MSM say, just my opinion mind.

And ultimately, the answer remains the same as what the most prolific and eloquent CQN posters have said, time and time again, – the scenario is what will Celtic do in the future?

  9. Stairheedrammy on

Despite the reckless leadership that saw the financial demise of rangers we have since witnessed confirmation that Scottish football is run for the benefit of one club, and one club alone. The reluctance of football authorities to investigate and apply their rules to this club- indeed openly changing rules to suit them, and the findings of the LNS “investigation” coupled with the agreement for Sevco to investigate themselves shows that the game is now a bogey- unless that is our club- and others call this for what it is, and I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting on that. My worry is that Celtic will be the big losers here- why follow a club when everyone knows that the game is loaded. We may see the results of this in next seasons attendance figures

  10. Summa of Sammi…. @10:38 that’s rather dispiriting. Lawwell does not represent the majority of the Celtic support IMO.

Events look likely to overtake this proposal as Sevco go into an ever tightening relegation/administration loop as the number of gullible huns with money to be conned out of shrinks by the month.

excellent piece and a reminder to us all that it is (usually) only a game. I used to train very near beside the Lanarkshire lodge , sorry association, of refs , watching them attempt to have a kick about after their training was hilarious.

A reminder to me of why they are refs, so they can spoil things for people who can play football.

  13. swatson Neil Lennon's 6ft skinny twin! on

I may be corrected on this but I’m sure LNS used the SFA rules to judge what sanctions to apply to Rangers after he had found them guilty.

What then happened defied belief as the SFA (Sandy Bryson) then provided the most twisted and perverted interpretations of rules ever seen!

    Not LNS fault!

  14. Reading PL’s interview in papers this morning I read the SFL will decide where Sevco play next season as whether it was in an 18 or the higher of 2 x 10s. The SPL, should the reconstruction go through, will be the 2 x 12, so they wouldn’t be fast tracked.

  15. bsr@11:32

I sincerely hope you are right. Alex O’Henley is not normally one for hysteria. He has got the info from someone involved at the SPL/SFL.

Auldheid has just informed me that if reconstruction goes through then there is no SFL anymore, so that certainly puts a different slant on things.

  16. jungle jam67 @11:30 Leigh Griffiths has been charged for telling one Zak Iqbal to go “back to your own country”. The last in a war of words that started in McDonald’s and finished up on twitter.

I’ve nothing against the huns singing anything they want about where we should go, or go back to. But when the law is applied arbitrarily, as you highlight, then it is no longer law. It is a weapon with which to attack one’s opponents. To be fair there were many follow up arrest after Manchester.

Interestingly, for all that was said about the original incident with Leigh Griffiths in McDonald’s, no charges were made. Could it be that cameras played a part?

It’s a reflection of out times that a youngster comes off second best in a slanging match and wants the police to do something about it.. Hadn’t Mr Iqbal the wit to just told Leigh Griffiths to back to his country?

The thing is it’s one club one vote.

How many SFL clubs from the current Division 2 and 1 are going to vote to put The Rangers up to the highest league possible and miss out on the financial bonuses of the crowds?

How many of the current Division 3 teams are going to say no to another year for full stadiums?

Talk of blanket boycotts by their fans were shown to be nonsense when some of their fans turned up at Dundee United – around the 300 that Green claimed he’d be willing to pay for at the SFL grounds if they voted for him and his.

Some initial boycotting might go on and some might walk away from watching the dross in their own team never mind the opposition but I cannot see all those clubs going the way they wanted them to when the potential crowds will make up for it.

All of the second Division would lose that money and some of the first who go down would too.

Why St Mirren have come out with their refusal is of greater concern.

    That decision stinks.
