Drama Queens, LostBhoys and where we came from

537

There will be no mention of ‘Drama Queens’ from me, but those who were uncontrollably distressed by ‘defeats’ in meaningless friendlies will no doubt be delighted to lean a Celtic team largely staffed by undergraduates got the better of Brentford yesterday.  The rest of us remain unmoved, although I was pleased Amido Balde received some encouragement.

As many of you will know, the LostBhoys have been broadcasting podcasts covering Celtic’s history in recent months.  It has been an incredibly professional, informative and entertaining look at our club through the years.   This weekend they broadcast a decade I helped them cover, 1950-1960.

It encapsulated a seminal period for Celtic.  When the SFA ruled the club would face suspension if they continued to fly the Irish flag, we could have gone out of business, or forever been robbed of our heritage.  The decade saw many of the great names in our history at Celtic Park: McGrory, Tully, Stein, Fallon, McNeill, Chalmers, Auld, Gribben and Hogan, as well as the ever-influential, Sir Robert Kelly, but to those at the time it looked like we were heading nowhere.  Celtic lost more games in the 50s than in any other decade, but as we know, it’s darkest before the dawn….

There are great contributions from Charlie Gallacher and John Fallon, and Terry Dick, son of Glen Daly, who recorded The Celtic Son, told us how the song came into being (it was basically the work of Charlie Tully).

You can download this episode here but catch them all, you’ll be glad you did.

Two days until football returns to Celtic Park; can’t wait.

    Update on bus fire

Did Swally leave a pie in the oven.

That bus cost 350,000 max.The bus is only hired by sevco from Bruce coaches most bus garage fires are insurance jobs or by rival firms.Hiring the bus to sevco once or twice a week gets 1000 pound max this bus will never make its money.Parks celtic bus costs 250,000 and renews it every 3years he does not make money on it but can afford to do it as he has a massive profitable company.

No doubt when sevco get a new bus the papers will run a story it will be kept in a secure shed in fanslane.

  3. Jimbo Also delighted to realize that is Mickleson’s first open and agree that Lee has probably missed his last chance

  4. What’s the chances of getting a discount on the 99p virtual tour of the scorched bingo bus ! Two bob about right for a look at the toasted tram !

Shame about Lee because worse players have won majors. Mind you a year ago I said that Scott would never do it and he’s won the Masters since. I thought Tiger looked truly despondent at the end

    The ‘nearly man’ yet again.

  9. Auldheid,

They shouldn’t go writing stuff down and making it legal then should they :o)

  10. Very happy that Mickelson won the Open. Very happy too that the lad Froome (?) who won the Tour de France talked of his hope that it would inspire the yong people of his native Kenya. I say this because the BBC English commentators went into overdrive about how good they were at sport, even condescending to say that Andy Murray was, of course, Scottish and now a true Brit. Awful triumphalist stuff, worthy of thon deid team’s support at its worst. By the bye, isn’t their cricket team a southern african select, with the odd Irishman thrown in?

canamalar1 you are a clown and your diatribe is utter dross and should be treated as such so run along and play peever because thats your level. UTTER IDIOT

  12. Parkheadcumsalford – Of course you made that all up, when did the BBC say Andy Murray was a true Brit?

Sorry Paul, you are on record as not caring about pre season, now you are using results as a stick to beat us Celtic drama queen’s, from in lower East Kilbride

Celtic were utterly dreadful viewing from Sevastapol to Berlin and a hiding for thoroughly B division Cliftonville *no disrespect intended to Reds Tims* a result against a lower English side, – tells both of us nothing.

Celtic are a work in progress, and Elfsborg will prove a much tougher test, against a club in flux, who’ve sold the family silver, and we’re to waiting to see, what happens next in the Celtic story.

  14. Jimbo I have no sympathy for the arrogant Tiger Woods a false role model who persisted with and covered up despicable behaviour his fall and self destruction is entirely self inflicted

  18. Do we not have 2 Lord’s on our board (or one now ex)?, highly possible there are Tims within the Honourable Gentleman Golfers of Edinburgh, who thought we’d have Lord board member?

It should not be forgotten that in Bob Kelly’s stand-off with the SFA over the Tricolour, Celtic’s only support came from our ancient enemy across the river.

They may be thick,..but they are not THAT thick.
