Drama Queens, LostBhoys and where we came from

537

There will be no mention of ‘Drama Queens’ from me, but those who were uncontrollably distressed by ‘defeats’ in meaningless friendlies will no doubt be delighted to lean a Celtic team largely staffed by undergraduates got the better of Brentford yesterday.  The rest of us remain unmoved, although I was pleased Amido Balde received some encouragement.

As many of you will know, the LostBhoys have been broadcasting podcasts covering Celtic’s history in recent months.  It has been an incredibly professional, informative and entertaining look at our club through the years.   This weekend they broadcast a decade I helped them cover, 1950-1960.

It encapsulated a seminal period for Celtic.  When the SFA ruled the club would face suspension if they continued to fly the Irish flag, we could have gone out of business, or forever been robbed of our heritage.  The decade saw many of the great names in our history at Celtic Park: McGrory, Tully, Stein, Fallon, McNeill, Chalmers, Auld, Gribben and Hogan, as well as the ever-influential, Sir Robert Kelly, but to those at the time it looked like we were heading nowhere.  Celtic lost more games in the 50s than in any other decade, but as we know, it’s darkest before the dawn….

There are great contributions from Charlie Gallacher and John Fallon, and Terry Dick, son of Glen Daly, who recorded The Celtic Son, told us how the song came into being (it was basically the work of Charlie Tully).

You can download this episode here but catch them all, you’ll be glad you did.

Two days until football returns to Celtic Park; can’t wait.

Thanks for info on Moscow the other night, saved to phone. Ta much. Hx2

  2. CRC hope you enjoyed your holiday, off to Eire next week so will be sorry to miss the football but will be in touch and if a spare slot came up i’d be glad to play again. Met SettingFreeTheBears & Lions Roar on friday night in Columba’s club which was an interesting night. Was handy to have SFTB there as I couldn’t shake hands with the damage to my wrist caused by his thunderbolt and he was there to take the blame!!!

The Keevins article and the Sun one today goes to show how desperate they are for readership and its now become a race to the bottom. I’ve stopped buying them and if i need any info i go to the websites that way i’m not funding their shambolic journalism. With CQN, newsnow celtic, KDS there are plenty of sites in which to get your celtic fix.

That bus was insured for half a million £. If you were the insurance company you would be looking into the previous history of financial scams of both the Oldco and the Newco. If they do get paid out only three things will happen: 1: They replace the bus with a new one that cost the same money. 2: They buy a 22 seater mini-bus for about £30k and sink the other £470k 3: They don’t replace the bus atall and revert back to hiring coaches for their travels and sink the full £500k. If they choose options 2 or 3 then they are at it.

option 4: McGills supply new bus( at a good rate of course)hmmmmmmmmm

Resolution (with supporting statement) to be proposed at the Celtic Plc AGM of Celtic under the terms of the Companies Act.

This AGM requests the Board exercise our option contained in the Procedural Rules Governing the UEFA Club Financial Control Body Article 10, to bring to the attention of the UEFA Club Financial Control Body. Request they undertake a review and investigation into the implementation of UEFA & SFA license compliance requirements with regard to qualification, administration and issuance of license to compete by the SFA, since the implementation of the 2008 Club Licensing Regulations.

    Supporting Statement

    We the undersigned feel we are left little choice but to request this course of action from our legal representatives on the board. We consider the SFA governance has displayed a disregard for the rules and contradicted previous mission statements, in contravention to the ethos of the spirit and rules of fair play expected and outlined in both UEFA & SFA Rules. A number of recent examples of this including but not limited to the following;

    1. Secret cross governance agreements, contrary to the ethos of their published mission statement (Scotland United A 20/20 Vision) regarding trust and respect as part of the future governance of the sport.

Further this agreement was in direct contravention of the FIFA Standard Cooperation Agreement of 2004 Article 2.1 Basic Principals, The basic principals governing the organization, administration and financing of football are as follows: football statutes and regulations, democratic election of governing bodies, legality, competence, dignity, probity, mutual respect, responsibility, trust, communication transparency, fair play, solidarity, protection of sportsmen and sportswomen’s health and promotion of friendly relations.

    2. Unprecedented transfer of membership to an unqualified new entity, facilitating queue jumping into the lower professional set-up, detrimental to qualifying clubs.

    3. Participation of a new entity in domestic competition without proper registration compliance.

    4. The participation of the SFA at an inquiry they refused to undertake, on the grounds that the SFA was required to be neutral as they maintained they are the appellate authority.

These in our opinion are just some of the more blatant contradictions to the ethos and spirit of fair play, however, far more serious and the main thrust of this resolution is the issuance by the SFA of a license to participate in European Competition, to a club who did not qualify on a number of grounds not least the non-payment of social taxes, a decision that had a direct financial impact on our clubs financial well being.

Our concern is directed at the governance of the game, the SFA and its apparent partiality; we wish to eliminate the opportunity for possible future indiscretions and believe this problem requires immediate action. We have no confidence in its governance within the current framework to satisfy our concerns and therefore request the Board supports this resolution.

If the Board fail to back this resolution, we request a written explanation within 1 month of the date of the AGM, justifying their reticence and explaining any counter claim to any financial impact our club suffered through license issuance irregularities.

We ask you to support this resolution and the written statement above circulated to shareholders in advance of the meeting, in the interests of a stronger Celtic.

I don’t imagine that Sevco will have the bus insured, that would be the responsibility of the owners, Bruces. Despite all the fanfare the bus isnae Sevcos at all, they just hire a fancy bus with a dodgy paint job.

Glen Daly, who recorded The Celtic Song

First celtic song I remember being played in our house ,then off to see Glen in panto at Christmas :)) though cant remember much about it.

  7. Camalar, I know it has already been said but I really do admire you for your tenacious attitude. I don’t agree with you but obviously you really believe in it.

  8. For all his faults Bob Kelly ALWAYS stood up for Celtic.

The tricolour affair in the 1950s being the prime example.

The chairman of Hibs at the time, Harry Swan, was a prime mover in the whole episode but the real mover was the SFA Secretary, a certain George Graham.

Kelly refused to back down and remove the flag, and eventually the SFA backed down.

The episode had an interesting sting in the tail: in 1957, Bob Kelly as President of the SFA discovered a clear connection between George Graham and the mis appropriation of ticket money at the SFA. He ordered Graham to resign immediately or the police would be called.

    Good day to you

I know what you mean but this is toecurling stuff. The thing about Keevins [and in fact Jabba] is that he did not start out as a slavering apologist for RFC ( and descendants). Guys like the various Darrells would need little prodding to big up the team they have supported since they were getting pushed round the Co in their push-chairs but why the others who I doubt have any basic affection for the Zombie club sold their souls have done so without direct pressure from Edmiston Drive and Media House I can only speculate. But I doubt if anything you or I would consider a sweetener is involved

There is a lot of truth in what you say particularly about England qualifying for tournaments. It’s pretty evident that they are not producing quality English youngsters in any real numbers but as to when the madness will stop is anyone’s guess. I’d still bite your hand off to be able to see Celtic v Man U Arsenal and indeed Swansea on a regular basis.

I meet a friend every Tuesday and he rambles on about our probs, then I say “you’ve been reading the rags again havent you”.

He replies without fail “Aye a know when will I learn”

I dont expect this Tues to be any different, its just the way he is,

He is a long time season ticket holder and has a love for our club beyond reproach but still believes the rags.

I will keep on at him though :)) one day the penny will drop.

  14. Greetings from Puerto de Pollenca.

Chilling out after lunch and catching up with the latest Celtic goss.

Amazing the difference a couple of good results make. Is that the “crisis” over.

Keeping well away from the “moaning faced scottish rags” though I see from previous posts that the lamb’s back on the menu. Keevins latest sycophantic trash is beyond being “aw nawwed”

The torched bus story is so full of MSM speculation and red herrings, that you get the impression they know a wee bit more than they’re letting on.

This intraweb makes the world a smaller place so I’m away back to the cava by the pool. Buenas tardes. As the locals probably don’t say.

  15. Sectarian attack on a bus lol who would have thought it, the orcs always good for a laugh HH

  16. Bloody typical of those Bruce buses, you wait all day and then four of them fire along at the same time.

  17. I started reading Archie MacPherson’s book about wee Jimmy, Undefeated, this afternoon and suddenly realised for the first time that, quite possibly, the bulk of those who go to Celtic Park nowadays never saw him in the flesh. What a shame. Probably the greatest entertainer ever to don the Hoops. Jimmy wasn’t something special: he was much, much more- he was utterly and totally unique. What you lhads have missed. Best of all, he loved the Celtic.

I can remember watching Jimmy in one of his first games against Rangers. It was one of those games we all remember in the early 1960’s lots of play lots of chances and then Willie Henderson pops up in the 89th minute and we lose 1-0.

I was captivated by Jimmy so much that I couldn’t be depressed. My uncle was visiting from Stoke and I bored he and my dad silly with my excitement that I had seen someone that day who would be world class. They humoured the daft laddie with many heard it all before looks between them and I had many happy future years pointing out that I knew a player when I saw one:>)

  21. Kilbowie Kelt on

It should not be forgotten that in Bob Kelly’s stand-off with the SFA over the Tricolour, Celtic’s only support came from our ancient enemy across the river.
