Duffy and need for central defender more than winger

476

A proposed swap deal with Blackburn with Shane Duffy coming to Glasgow and James Forrest heading south makes sense for Celtic. Late last season we were talking about how Erik Sviatchenko was our only solid central defender, with Jozo Simunovic injured and yet to establish himself.

Duffy made his Euro 16 debut in the 1-0 win over Italy, before being red carded for a professional foul against France. I’m not expecting a van Dijk, but his performances in both games was of the standard Celtic only have with Erik.

James Forrest grabbed the space vacated by Aiden McGeady’s move to CSKA Moscow and made the most of the opportunity but injury has inhibited him in recent years. He’s also suffered from being part of what looked like a World Record attempt of squeezing wingers into a 23-man squad. We need fewer wingers and at least one more central defender.

Brendan Rodgers comments that Kris Commons is nowhere near ready for the first team is not encouraging. I’d have him limp to the bench for the forthcoming qualifiers. Even unfit, he’s capable of linking play like no one else in the squad.

Oh,FFS.See all the whingers on tonightwanting to have a go at the Board.Give it a F—– rest, will you.We had all this throughout the close season, and the whole of last year.If you dont like it,write to the Board and let them know.Send back your ST book, tell them you wont reknew.

I agree ith everything you say about this Board, but coming on here, incessantly whinging does no good whatsoever. What it does do is spread discontentment throughout the support, which then finds its way onto the pitch.

Organize a protest outside the Stand after a game.I will fly back and stand with you.Just dont keep blocking up the blog with endless whinging,we have heard all before Ad Nauseum.Get behind the team or dont.Stop coming on and telling us “You wont be attending”.Sick of hearing your reasons for not going.

Me,I have no time for this board, and many others.Does not stop me from supporting Celtic.Boards come and go,Celtic will always be there

“Celtic plc have a legal responsibility to the share price”.

So why do they allow false claims, ,undermining the Celtic brand, such as Sevco claiming to be in pursuit of title 55, as Scotland’s most successful club, to go unchallenged?

    ———————————————————————————————————-

Do you seriously think Celtic plc dont have a share price worth advancing in pursuit of a new record?

I simply want to enjoy my life, and as my attachment to Celtic is part of those plans. Meeting other Tims and celebrating my heritage is what I enjoy in particular. Meeting Mountblow Tim yesterday is a case in point, someone who you trust instinctively and someone who generates generosity and bonhomie.

Having the luxury, however, of having an ocean and continent between Glasgow, I will not be logging onto Celtic TV , or any social media for games versus the undead this season. I’d rather avoid the hysteria, high blood pressure over the inevitable mibbery and the hatred directed our way. Life is indeed too short.

Reading about Jock Stein there I wonder what he would of made of trying to track down agents and KPIs?

I was looking at the players signed over the last couple of years. Pretty interesting stuff (courtesy of Celtic Wiki).

In RD’s two years we signed 23 including loans,

IN NFL’s four years we signed 42 including loans.

Jock Stein signed 35 players in 13 years,

Billy McNeill signed 10 players in 5 years,

Davie Hay signed 9 players in 4 years.

On the assumption that the data is correct it shows how much the game has changed and the influence, possibly of scouts and agents?

Looking at the the quality, money actually spent (factoring in inflation) and the turnover of players in recent years it’s pretty stark, imo.

No wonder we don’t have a settled team..?

    Who knows.

    Only time will tell.

I`m extremely confident it will not.

The prime responsibility of govt. is the protection of its citizens.

Membership of the E.C. has compromised the ability of the British govt. to perform that function.

There may well be an economic price to pay.

For me , it`s worth it.

Scotland will probably spout long and hard about a new referendum ,but on seeing ,hopefully , the advantages of exit , may well end up delaying a decision and finally accepting the status quo.

Fantastic place , friendly helpful happy people, the ones who were secular and kept their religion at home in private. The secular folk feared the rise of Islamic fundamentalists around Ankara.
