If they are looking for someone with experience in managing a ” basket case ” club , perhaps they could try the penniless arcade in Govan, I hear he has all the credentials for running such a club/company.

All that says Bourne is we’re in a piss-poor league, you would like to think that one of these days a team at home will have a go at us for at least 10 minutes.

We’re too big for where we are, and no bassa wants us anywhere else.

  5. Cheers, Winning Captains!

Aston Villa are sailing on rough seas. I wonder if the Magic Hat has called them yet wondering if he can get a second interview?

Alright, sixtaeseven, good to see your name again. Hope all is well.

    Merely a statistic.

Doesn’t everyone know we play in a diddy league?

It shows the company we are in and how hard it is for them to win especially after a mid week CL game.

  7. Hunderbirds are Gone on

Due to the contentious nature of the application of even handed (lol) refereeing in Scotland, and elsewhere, I have long been of the opinion that strict liabilities should be applied in many situations within a game, which currently have the caveat of, “in the opinion of the referee”, The most salient being handball and offside.

If games were run thus, then offside would be offside when a player is in an offside position (as it used to be), and handball would be handball when a player handles a ball.

Is there a downside to such an interpretation? Yes there is. In the case of handball, it would be unlucky, to be penalised by the forfeiture of a penalty kick, in the case of an accidental handball. In the case of offside, ditto, if the offside was accidental.

However, in such a scenario, it becomes incumbent on the players to attempt to mitigate the incidents of bad fortune caused by accidental handball be keeping their hands out of the way; or the bad fortune of accidental offside by being aware of where they are during a passage of play.

If they are victims of unlucky decisions, then so be it, that would be unlucky. Everyone who has an interest in football is aware that luck plays a part in the outcome of any game.

I would rather lose a game, by dint of an unlucky decision, than because of any given referees interpretation of the nature of the offence. How can a referee even begin to divine the intent of the player in any given situation?

The phrase “in the opinion of the referee” allows the referee the largesse and freedom to make deliberately wrong decisions, if he is so minded.

If handball was handball it removes some of the dubiety as to the motivation of the referee.

Of course, none of this would help officials to see things that they “missed” e.g. The ICT outfield players save during the Scottish Cup Semi-Final a few years ago.

  9. Enjoyed the visit to Dens Park on Saturday despite a fairly flat performance and a raging hangover.

“Grace” is a great addition to our repertoire and I also found myself singing the “Barton” song all the way back home – beats the original by Lonnie Donegan by a mile!

I was however surprised by the hitherto unknown courtesy of the Dens Park staff who wished my pals and me an “Enjoy the Game Lads” 3 times before we arrived at our seats.

Must be a charm offensive in place at Dens Park however it was a pleasant surprise.

The point you make would, IMHO, be salient if Barca and Mocnhengladbach were beaten by teams near the top of the table. Celta Vigo are languishing towards the bottom of La Liga and Shalke had lost their firs 5 games in the Bundesliga, losing 10 goals and scoring only 2 in the process.

The assumption that all these teams at the bottom of the “big leagues” are any good is, again IMHO, purely that – conjecture. I would suggest that Celtic (and probably Hertz and the Sheep) would routinely beat some of the dross at the tail end of these leagues – Aston Villa and Newcastle in the EPL last season as an example.

  12. When people say we play in a `piss poor` or a `diddy` league, with whom are we being compared? UEFA has 54 Leagues so presumably at least 100 divisions. If that were to be split into , say , the Big Four, followed by another ten or so and the remaining 86 further divided , could we say that the bottom twenty were ` diddy` leagues. Are we in the bottom twenty?

Have we always been in a `piss poor ` league or did that only change in the last four years?

    SIXTAESEVEN @ 10:25 AM,

Yes could be very interesting today…

It’s another preliminary hearing against the MBB.

It will be interesting to see where the prosecution are…

I believe there was Seven facing charges at one time.

    Now down to one…

Either the Trial will go ahead

    Or

    It will fold

    Or

They may be more time given…

If the trial goes ahead or the prosecution are allowed more time then

However I think JJ was suggesting if the Charges are dropped today he and many others have got some important information…

He even seemed to suggest we might see some singing like Canaries…

  18. The winning goal by Vigo v Barca was interesting.

It was the result of the current fashion of the goal keeper always playing the ball out to a defender rather than employ a welly upfield when under pressure.

A few more like that goal last night and Craig Gordon has nothing to worry about from De Vriese as the fashion changes.
