Dunfermline debacle caution ahead of Motherwell

996

Do you remember the game after the Cluj Champions League debacle last August?  Of course you do, you are still chasing the cold from you bones, it was a League Cup encounter with Dunfermline at Celtic Park, where the Championship club took the game to extra time.  The game, the only domestic cup tie in 34 games we have not won in 90 minutes, was six minutes from going to penalties before James Forrest settled things.

I don’t know what happened in the dressing room between Cluj and Dunfermline but I cannot imagine it is a happier workplace this week.  This is Celtic and everything goes on the line every game.  Let’s not have a repeat of the Dunfermline performance.

I know a few Motherwell fans and they are unanimous in their praise of David Turnbull, their star 21-year-old midfielder who joined Celtic on a reported £3m deal yesterday.  Turnbull originally signed for Celtic in June last year, before failing a medical.  A knee operation, and the best part of a year in recuperation, saw him clinch his dream move yesterday.

The question now for the manager is, how does he shape his midfield?  Therein lies the answer to our season.

Welcome to Celtic, David.

Good point … I wasn’t even considering DT, get him in instead of Christie or Ntcham at least we know Turnbull wants to be with us :-)

  2. Is there a mole?

Check back & see is this the team.

Barkas, Frimpong, Jullian, Bitton, Taylor, Brown,CalMac, Christie, Moi, Jamesy, Polish Paddy.

  3. Barkas Frimpong Jullien Bitton Taylor

    Brown McGregor

    Forrest Christie Elyounoussi

    Klimala

  4. Corkcelt – hope not. if nothing else, I would play Turnbull instead of Brown and Frimpong pushed up to take JF’s place with El Hamed getting more game time.

  5. Corkcelt- that’s the 1 I got sent earlier.

Come on bhoys 3 points please and if I’m being greedy a really good performance and plenty of goals, 7-1 will do.😂😂😂

We have been creating loads of chances, let’s take them today.

    D :)

  6. I think Nir Bitton should have played the other night … just to even make Barakas more comfortable until he gets used to playing with Celtic

    Hindsight CSC

  7. Deniabhoy- El Hamed isn’t fit.. 😂 joking

I think he is a fantastic player and would never be out of my team, I wonder if he is the scapegoat from the other night, if so that’s wrong.

He will only get match fitter with more game time. Same as Klimala and Ajeti.

Ps I hope Ntcham is away signing for someone and we get 9,10 or 11 million for him

    D :)

  8. Bayo’s agent has a point. I’m aware players seem to improve in people’s eyes during their absence but at least Bayo is a natural striker.

We knew Griff was unlikely to play for a while (again?); Lennon knew Klimala isn’t ready (in his view) and we know Ajeti will need time to get fit.

Somebody on here once said we were an Eddie injury away from crisis.

Was loaning Bayo out really the wisest move?

  9. In the name of God, does Brown merit a guaranteed starting spot regardless of how he is playing? Freshen things up in the engine room before it is too late, please.

  10. If the leaked team is correct, I think in this game Frimpong ahead of Elhamed is justified &I’m a fan of Elhamed What struck me is no Ntcham or Ajer the 2 ghuys deemed to be the chief wantaways.

  11. David66 – Like you, I fear he has been dropped for that reason. Frimpong did more in 10 mins than JF did the whole game. Play Elhamed with Frimpong in front of him for a few games. JF needs the competition, needs to realise that he is not a guaranteed pick. Same as our captain. We have a squad, let’s use it.

  12. David66, I’d take 6 nil ahead of 7-1.

We need to start racking up a few clean sheets.

Having said that I’d take any score as long as Celtic win.

  13. Lennon said yesterday that Bitton was injured.

Why would you leave out your best 2 players from Wednesday. Ajer and Ntcham

  14. I’m pretty sure if we get 10 in a row or not ,Neil Lennon will resign, can’t take a chance on a coach who has failed miserably in the Champions League,Wednesday was the last straw for me ,no striker ,a right back who hasn’t had much game time, getting found out on his pace, making changes when it’s to late ,as for chasing players out the door just because he doesn’t fancy them ,also paying good money on other players and not playing them that’s just not on in my eyes, and what does Peter Lawell think about these players not even getting a run in the team,I think he knows he made a mistake in him appointing him,as for for appeasing the fans with trying to get Shane Duffy on loaning shows how desperate we are ,another one like Ajetti who can’t get a first team start at West Ham,no Celtic stop pulling the wool over our Celtic supporters eyes,I’m pretty sure this board or quite a few of them will not be there next season or before, our club need young honest good Celtic fans whose primary purpose is for the good for all Celtic Supporters a win this afternoon is all that matters, anything else ,well I hate to see what the consequences will be ,and I’m sure that’s what a lot Fans will be thinking.

  15. onenightinlisbon on

    Brown?

The ten is potentially at risk through loyalties and friendships.

No one player is more important than the goal we have this season.

  16. ST TAMS

“Why would you leave out your best 2 players from Wednesday. Ajer and Ntcham”

I see your point but maybe there’s truth in Lennon’s “wantaway” comments.

If their agents are agitating for a move, play those who want to be here and get adequate replacements in ASAP.

What worries me, is that Lennon said they’ve been pushing for a move for six months. Why were they not sold and replacements found before the season started?

  17. Corkcelt

James Forrest has being blogging for weeks about the mole.

Every team this season has been leaked, frightening when you think about it, massive advantage for every opposition.

  18. St Tams –

According to the wider CQN community our best performers on Wednesday night were –

Elyounoussi and Ntcham – 5 points

    Christie – 3 points

    Ajer – 2 points

    McGregor – 1 point

  19. Who could blame Ntcham for wanting away?

While playing against provincial teams of hammer throwers may not be edifying, imagine how much worse it is to have watch it from the bench?

As for today’s ‘likely’ lineup, Elhammed is the teal deal at right back, despite his howler for their winning goal last night. Wee Frimpong came on and finally injected some threat, as a right winger. FFS Neil, sometimes the answer isn’t so hard to work out.

    HH jg

  20. Deniabhoy – I agree

    Corkcelt – Again agreed

Just win bhoys, unfortunately we have to hang onto the coat tails of sevco until we can fit in our 2 games. Not ideal this international break either. Stop start, stop start. Then we have a postponed game on 31st October against St Mirren?? Anyone know what stats for?

    D :)

  21. I post the official Celtic teamlines when they have been exchanged with the opposition and the referee.

Anyone posting ITK teamlines may be right but are only possibly helping the opposition in advance.

  22. why is leaking the team giving the opponents any advantage ?

Brown should play, simply he is the best we have in that position , and his leadership skills are way more valuable than his supposed (exagerrated) weaknesses.

And again, in Lennon I trust.

and again again, I couldnt give a rats arse about being in the champions league getting hammered.

    cmon the hoops.

  23. imo chasing out the door should read keeps playing same players down to’ loyalties and friendships’ no wonder players don’t want to be here.

  24. as to International weeks, now more than ever, why not allow clubs with no players inn the squads to play a fixture ?

    wasted weeks these bloody things.

  25. Ntcham might be a decent footballer, but he is to inconsistent for my liking. Also we have to rearrange a team to fit him in, cash in on him.

My opinion of course and I certainly am no manager or expert just a fan with an opinion.

who is played out of loyalty ? who is picked due to their friendship ?

  27. dearie dearie , players playing in unusual positions to accommodate others ,you don’t need me to answer that.

  28. We need a win and 3 points all the internal stuff must get sorted in the international break, 3points please Celtic.

  29. CORKCELT on 30TH AUGUST 2020 12:53 PM

    6 nil instead of 7-1..?

Heck I know what you mean.

But after this week I would take 1 nil ahead of 2-1

  30. ExSlaemuirBhoy on

Hate playing catch-up , comfortable 3 points today will settle everyone down. Can’t afford any slip ups in case the powers that be close the season early, one sniff of another big outbreak of covid and they will take great pleasure calling the season early. HH

  31. give Turnbull a start , all this talk of gentleman’s agreement , a load of p*** , do you think it would happen if the shoe was on the other foot , don’t think so.
