Dunfermline debacle caution ahead of Motherwell

996

Do you remember the game after the Cluj Champions League debacle last August?  Of course you do, you are still chasing the cold from you bones, it was a League Cup encounter with Dunfermline at Celtic Park, where the Championship club took the game to extra time.  The game, the only domestic cup tie in 34 games we have not won in 90 minutes, was six minutes from going to penalties before James Forrest settled things.

I don’t know what happened in the dressing room between Cluj and Dunfermline but I cannot imagine it is a happier workplace this week.  This is Celtic and everything goes on the line every game.  Let’s not have a repeat of the Dunfermline performance.

I know a few Motherwell fans and they are unanimous in their praise of David Turnbull, their star 21-year-old midfielder who joined Celtic on a reported £3m deal yesterday.  Turnbull originally signed for Celtic in June last year, before failing a medical.  A knee operation, and the best part of a year in recuperation, saw him clinch his dream move yesterday.

The question now for the manager is, how does he shape his midfield?  Therein lies the answer to our season.

Welcome to Celtic, David.

I was typing when you posted that. Tell you what….I’ll ask a moderator to remove all my posts tonight. If you could moderator. To be sure I’ll ask paul67 just to be sure (thanks thanks thanks thanks Philbhoy for providing that link, I’ll forever thankful to you for that) thanks again.

There you go. If my post removal saves you pissing your pants then it’ll all have been worthwhile

  2. Would have replied sooner but this getting logged out every few mins is a right pain, anyways, we will only go for a manager like say Brendan Rodgers when there is money at stake, the half empty stadium saw that we brought in a coach who would take us to the next level, and for sure BR did that, we as a club banked a whean of cash that Pedro is still counting BTW, Lenny is a cracking bloke but IMO a crap coach, now we can argue all day and all night about the cup the leagues etc, but we have had by a country mile the best squad of players for some time now and again IMO they have carried up through.

When we start to lose money we will see a proper coach at the helm, till then it’s Lenny or his sidekick, again IMO.

I also think that Pep Guardioala is a crap coach……

  3. IMHO Lawell should bring in a new assistant coach this season or next. We should push the boat out and bring back Shaun Maloney into the setup.

  4. Night ghuys.and I really mean night.Wont be back on telling everyone everything is alright and that tomorrow is the day you wake up still being a Tim 😉

    Life is good ghuys 🍀💚🤷‍♀️

  5. For their 20 year celebration they invited our 1970 team over. That night some of our players were standing at the bar when this long haired gentleman with an equivalent long coat on came over and bought a round, WVH, they chatted away and then he left. At the close of the night our lhads asked for the bill, the Batman said it had already been taken care of by big WVH.

Staying off of here due tae the more than usual amount of hunterlopers which are easy tae spot, they target our CEO and a Manager who both terrify them.

Then there are the chronic Mona Lisa’s who are never happy unless they can have something to complain about. Thankfully they weren’t around on October 19 1957 or they would be urinated off at losing a goal that day.

There’s also the heated driveway haters with their not so hidden agendas, so transparent and boring tae boot.

After a game like that when we made so many chances the Big Mhan would always say as long as we’re making them that’s what was important, they’ll go in eventually.

As for throwing players under the bus, after drawing with the Pars at home he said he was let down and that one particular player, who if the truth be known had a regi blinker, would definitely NOT be playing in the replay that coming Wednesday.

That night we won 1-0, the scorer was the player we all assumed he was talking about, “oh Harry Harry”. As my da said the next day that was Jock’s way of booting him up the erse.

    ………………………

I usually enjoy your posts and look forward to them. I’ve been supporting The Bhoys since 1959 through the good times and the bad though I suspect not as long as you have. Your memory is much better than mine too which is why I enjoy being reminded of incidents in games that I attended decades ago but which have slipped from my mind. However, I think you let yourself down with the above post.

“Then there are the chronic Mona Lisa’s who are never happy unless they can have something to complain about. Thankfully they weren’t around on October 19 1957 or they would be urinated off at losing a goal that day”

I fail to see any connection between Celtic beating Rangers 7-1 in 1957 and being beaten at home against Ferencvaros on Wednesday night. In 1957 we played with a striker. He scored 3 goals. Maybe if we had played with a striker against Ferencvaros he might have scored a goal or two, but we didn’t. So fans who have endured Cluj, Copenhagen and Ferencvaros and dare to criticise the manager because of his total lack of tactics, know how and appalling team selection are Mona Lisa’s? Give us all a break please. That is just total rubbish. I had a look at some of the nonsense last night from the Uber Tims ( hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil). Fans are allowed to criticise. That’s what we pay our money for. Our manager had another nightmare, he made it worse by his after match comments. He obviously got a kick up his erse from Peter Lawell and tried to retract his comments but then was stupid enough to say that he had watched the match again and he didn’t really see what else could be done. God give me strength but if that’s what he still thinks I can’t think what could be a bigger sacking offence. I’ll continue to celebrate Celtic’s great victories (and small ones) but I won’t hesitate to criticise when it’s warranted.

  7. Incidentally what is Mauricio Pochettino doing just now

    🤔😂😂😂

If I was Celtic CEO, that’s who I would be looking at

I want the very best for Celtic

In the meantime, I will be 100% behind Neil Francis Lennon on my VST 🤣

Everything is gonna be alright…we live in great Celtic times and when you wake up, you’ll still be a Tim :-) :-) :-)

    Apologies to Fairhill Bhoy… :-)

Tontine Tim…Wim van Hanegem …were you present at that?

  9. Sorry that wasnt my post I was asking 31003 to read what he had posted

31003 if any offence caused I also apologise as I said I love my heroes and want to keep it that way and will always defend them no matter what.

1970 EC Final — All that is missing is the grassy knoll.

Tin foil hat on — here goes / the runners and riders.

    1) The players underestimated the Dutch and JS didn’t spend enough time putting them right.

    2) The games against LU were seen as the real final and this was just a beer game.

    3) We changed our system from 4 – 3 – 3 to 4 – 2 – 4 with GC missing from the MF allowing us two play 2 forwards in the middle.

JH was known to be a bit hot and cold but he had played well in the second game against LU.

    4) The bonus issues have been brought up by a number of players over the years.

    5) The squad was getting a bit thin by 1970 and we were over-playing the same starting 11.

At a wiki level we had one substitute listed while the Dutch had 6.

Bit of a miss if that really was the case — trying to remember who else we could have listed?

    HH / TC / JC …

Also with typical SFA timing the SCF was played 4 days before the second game against LU with the delightful BD in charge — what could possibly go wrong?

    6) The Dutch were innovators at the time with pep pills — 5 years on the trot they made the EC final which does stand out somewhat.

The same source puts forward a view that European football — Italy and WG to the fore — was a chemistry challenge in the 70’s as much as a physical one.

Every time I think about this the words Gullane Sands come into my head and I don’t know why …

Not the full exhaustive list — anymore for anymore?

  11. NFL A Celtic legend who deserves our undying support. His managerial skills in the game against Ferencvaros were the worst I’ve ever seen by a Celtic manager. HH

  12. Madmitch

Gullane Sands was Rangers favourite training ground. Particularly Jock Wallace’s

(The Daily Ranger always brought up the fact that Wallace was a hard (blue) nosed marine and used their training methods for “ta mighty Gers)

  13. Neil Lennon & McCartney on

Celtic have made their first formal offer for Sampdoria defender Omar Colley, claim reports, worth a total €8.5m.

According to Il Secolo XIX newspaper, the Scottish title holders proposed €2m for the loan, plus an obligation to buy at the end of the season for a further €6.5m.

Negotiations are set to continue, because Samp are asking for closer to €10-11m in total for the Gambia international.

The 27-year-old centre-back has also been linked with West Ham United.

Samp paid €8m plus bonuses to get Colley from KRC Genk in 2018, so want to make a profit on his sale.

Longtime lurker haven’t posted for a long time having finally calmed down after Wednesday I feel I must comment on some of the accusatory posts on here that brand critics of the manager as huns. In my view Neil cannot escape criticism for numerous aspects of that fiasco but the fracture lines in the support are even more worrying. Surely any supporter is entitledlto have and indeed to air an opinion

  15. Knightswoodbhoy

Don’t lurk sir, give us your opinion.

I enjoy reading what people post.

There are some serious Celtic historians on here

Recent post by Madmitch was a cracker

I’ve been called a Hvn on here before – it’s quite funny really.

    Never take it too seriously

  16. There have been several reports in the past regarding events leading up to the 1970 EC Final. Celtic were 4th favourites after Leeds, Benfica and Fiorentina. We knocked all of them out, Benfica by the toss of a coin. As Madmitch said the semi finals against Leeds were seen as bring the real cup final. We were red hot favourites to win in Milan and most fans, my 19 year old self included, thought we were racing certainties to win. It was to be a mere formality.

One of the problems was that the Scottish League finished about three weeks before the final, while the Dutch League finished one week before the final. In that 3 weeks, Celtic played one game, a friendly against Buckie Thistle. The players had too much time on their hands. There were lots of stories about arguing in the dressing room before going onto the pitch in Mksn about bonuses. The players hadn’t been told how much they would get for winning and some demanded to know. I’ve also heard/read accounts by players saying that Jock totally underestimated the Dutch and actually compared them to Thistle.

They totally outplayed us and had great possession of the ball throughout the game. We went into a surprise lead through a great goal by big Tommy but they equalised. Despite how well they played, it was in the last 5 minutes of extra time that they won the match. Had it gone to a replay, I still believe we would have won. My only caveat though is later in the year we played them at Hampden before a big crowd in a friendly. We drew 1-1 and they were pretty good. The difference between the two teams: we played our passes for our man to run onto, they played their passes to feet and with great accuracy. They were a brilliant team and so were we. A clash of the Titans.

I’ve got friends who are Sevco fans. They are blind when it comes to their team.

Liquidation? Never heard of it. Insolvent? Don’t know what you’re talking about. Your team is shit. Naw they urny.

Some Celtic fans refuse to see what’s staring them in the face as well

Don’t know if you seen my earlier post re ‘70 final. I was told TG & JJ told Big Jock they weren’t playing unless the promised bonus was forthcoming. This was on the flight over. Big Jock went bananas and told them in no uncertain terms that were playing.

For the record, I wasn’t there when it happened but I know someone who was

  19. Hibs sign Jamie Murphy on season long loan from Rangers. That’s Aberdeen and Hibs got players who can’t play against them. I see a pattern forming here

    ……………….

Sorry didn’t see your earlier post. What is absolutely certain is that we adopted an amateurish approach to the 2970 final. Feyenoord were underrated and there was discontent amongst the players.

It was so disappointing considering our performances throughout the tournament. Especially when we defeated “England’s Team of the Century” both home and away.
