Early stats point to Sviatchenko effect

623

Well done to everyone for the win against Morton. After a difficult week it was good to get the result sorted out before halftime. Fixing poor form is seldom a straightforward business, but yesterday’s win was our sixth game in a month, with the loss of only one goal in that period.

The five games before this run didn’t produce a single clean sheet. Erik Sviatchenko started only the last of those five games (at Pittodrie), so while the sample size isn’t enough to draw clear conclusions, it’s an early indication the Dane has tightened things up at the back.

One thing Erik hasn’t been able to do is turn Celtic into a team which looks like it knows how to defend a corner kick. A Morton corner fell into the six-yard box to an attacker’s foot (never mind head). We’ve seen dozens of these horror-show set-pieces this season. They have cost us in the Champions League, Europa League, League Cup and in the Premiership. The Scottish Cup is the only tournament we’ve got away with it, so far.

You are I are beyond despairing at this point, let’s just get it sorted, Celtic.

  1. If Celtic dont not sell their allocation probably about 18k the SFA will give them to sevco. The staus of the club we have to play should have been clarified without any ambiguity long before now,

  2. Interesting reading the posts regarding fans not attending the semi final.

I hate to tell them that they are in the minority. Football is all about rivalry and a lot of folk have missed that. Yeah, the whole panto leaves a sour taste but the chance to boo the bad guy, whether he is old, new, borrowed or blue is still the same for the majority of game going Tims that I have spoken too and also based on the number of text’s, FB messages etc that I have received since 5pm yesterday.

These guys are not OF fans. The majority of these guys go week in and week out. No glory hunters.

Just a feeling that this draw could get us out the malaise we found ourselves in. Though we are vulnerable we may have just got focus. Will that be enough?

  3. WeeBobbyCollins,

Of course not! I wouldn’t pap you in that group.

I only hope Erik doesn’t take advice from Peter Grant aka peterpointillist.

  4. I have visited Celtic Park once since the turn of the year.

My love for my club in the form I believe it should exist will never fall.

The love I have for the club in existing form is waning off.

As the time closes in on the Wee Free Huns re-returning, while our so called Celtic men holding the higher places of power at our club have stood back without action willing this entity back, am feeling less and less obliged to support my team in person or with my financial where with all. There was a time when we all suspected that as a team, a club and a support we were being cheated. There was a time when our accusations were easily laughed of as paranoia. There was a time when we may have had a little doubt that our worst fears were unfounded and in fact we played in a true competition in this country. But today as time draws closer to many more years of HunTimadataion coming from The SFA, The SPFL, The Referees, and now tentatively from our boardroom via acceptance of the status quo for their own financial gratification laiden with large buckets of both FEAR and FAVOUR, I just don’t have the same feeling for what once was a great club with proud traditions. Where is the pride in accepting being cheating and welcoming another form of that self same cheating through our front door.

Fool me once shame on you. Foll me twice… yip we know were the shame will now lie.

I already know what next season and the few seasons there on after will be like as the authorities stabilise this entity into it’s structure before once again letting it Lord itself over us. We may reach 10-in-a-row in the process of their re-foundation as the number 1 club but while they are on their climb back to their superior mount and for ever there on after we, each and every one of us will know that our club competes (yeah I am laughing using that word) in a fixed, corrupt footballing environment benefiting only one re-constructed entity.

I will be sending my 4 season cards back to Celtic, likely before the end of this season and any championship celebrations accompanied with a letter to Peter Lawell cc’d to each director of our club. I believe this group of so called Celtic men have let us down with their eyes firmly focused on the tainting blue buck while they ignore supporter and shareholders, providing soundbite rhetoric in the hope that the passing of time with nullify any resistances from within to the zombie reformation.

Well for me, i cannot stomach this reformation and the acceptance by my club any more.

If I had seen, maybe even one sentiment or statement that would have convinced me that our club had the best interest of the club and it’s fans at it’s heart by wishing us to play in a league that is not rigged for one club were our club, players and supporters could give it’s all without FEAR and FAVOUR on the park competing in a legal and fair league rather than a structure that includes our PLC wanting and accepting the return of the blue pounded tainted by cheating, bigotry, sectarianism and violence, then I could within myself qualify a view that I should remain and support my team while believing my club is really doing the right thing. I have not seen anything that can convince me supporting a view that our PLC wants anything else but the blue pound back. Something which if they wished they could have helped make sure was confined to history and the halls of fame at the SFA.

It’s just is not for me anymore. I’m done pretending.

  5. Re, Erik. Still unsure but he is on my team sheet.

RD, needs to find a consistent 11 to get us over the line. Mines, would be and YES i know some of these players are out of form at the moment and YES, i’m second guessing that the manager will play 4-2-3-1 is:

    Gordon,

    KT

    Erik

    Mulgrew

    Lustig

    Brown

Armstrong (He’s got Barry Robson written all over him).

    GMS

    Johanson

    Commons

    Griffiths.

Frightening not perfect and worrying. But it needs done.

Though I jest in all seriousness about his lack of pace (and he is also the first 6 foot plus defender to be under 6 foot!) I quite like what I’ve seen.

But I do think your reading of events against ict is even happier clapper than I’ve been known to be. ;-)

    We got sliced through.

    He got done for pace

Gordon made a great save which may well have been worth 3 points …. or 2.

    We got lucky.

I just wish wee Erik had a Turner speed…know what I mean? Step on Degas man.

  8. Yes, it’s surprising how good defenders become bad after a while at Celtic. They seem to be sucked into some sort of whirlpool of bad defending, like they’ve all become vorticists.

  9. A bit more serious than a panto, and the extent of cheating /lying leaves a lot more than a sour taste. Does for me anyway, wouldn’t go to a game involving the huns now, and will be giving up both season books when the season ends. Maybe I just take things a little more seriously than some, eh?.

There have been calls to head for the hills on semi-final day –

I missed the post where Celtic fans were being told to head for the hills, can you show me that post ?

  11. MoonbeamsWD

You’ll be invited in to Celtic Park to meet with John Paul Taylor, if your letter sets out your concerns

and they are not external but linked with the club, they have to give you answers, and try and retain

    your good custom.

There is a queue forming for these meetings with JPT and he reports directly to Peter Lawell.

Bawsman on 7th March 2016 12:49 pm Please…………..Fellow Celtic fans……………Give this semi-final game a miss, send the SFA a message they cannot ignore. –

    Bawsman

The only message that the SFA would take from that action would be that they can do what they like as we hide under the bed and hope the bogeyman goes away.

SFA would then sell out the entire stadium to the Followers of Darkness.

If we are the 12th man , our absence would therefore be a further detractor, . Masons with whistles , Hampdump with no Tims would be a complete Hunfest .

I prefer to be part of a packed Celtic end supporting our team, singing and proclaiming loudly that whatever we are facing at the other end of the stadium it is only a tribute act.

The song list should be a litany of songs proclaiming that fact

    “You’re not R#####s any more”,

Who are you? , who are you?

  13. With regards to corners I don’t think we have learned much of a lesson. Again yesterday when we got a corner against us the players don’t seem to know what they are supposed to be doing. Instead they stand about looking at each other as if waiting on instructions on where to stand or who to pick up. That doesn’t suggest a well drilled defensive unit that are spending enough time honing their skills on the training pitch.

Apart from the lucky escape at the corner in the 2nd half they were also caught out by a short corner in the 1st half. Also when defending a first half free kick we left three Morton players to attack the back post with only wee Kieran Tierney trying to pick three of them up. This failure to learn from repeated mistakes is criminal & can and will continue to be exploited by better teams.

I used to read this blog for insight in to what was happening at the club, rumours from taxi drivers at Ross Hall etc.

Grown up discussion about serious stuff,

Also a lot of humour and eclectic music.

We are better than making jibes at the expense of our new centre backs pace.

I see our old firm fans are getting the boot in first, making out it is their duty to support Celtic more against the new club than any other club.

The only people that will be at hampdump will be old firm supporters, glory hunters and self aclaimed uberfans.

The glory hunters and ignorant will fill the stadium anyone else is old firm and uber, it’s that simple.

Shit about standing shoulder to shoulder with the team is just that, shite.

The club needs to make a statement, those that consider themselves to be the club need to make this last chance to for a statement count. Else they buy into old firm.

  17. Davie Moyes, the man who has apparently agreed to take the Celtic job in the summer, is throwing himself at Mike Ashley.

Desperate stuff. Though he has turned down Celtic twice before.

Michael O’Neill is set to sign a new deal at Norn Iron.

If everybody in the administration and promotion of the games is using ‘Old Firm’ but Celtic doesn’t is that sending a statement about our position on the matter?

  22. Canamalar

The club will not make any statement, if Celtic fans do not buy their allocation it will go to Sevco,in the absence of the club maybe the supporter organisations can make it clear about the identity of the teams in the semi final .I’ve given up on this board to say or do anything other than our own fans being bad mouthed by the chairman.

On the corner that caused a problem yesterday, my memory is it was the first one conceded after the ML substitution. I think it’s an added hazard when we don’t make like for like changes.

On ES getting it in the neck today because he isn’t the latest Shaquille O’Neill or Usain Bolt; well boo-hoo to you. He’s one of the Glasgow Bhoys now. Leave him be.

  24. mike in toronto on

    agree with Timreaper’s comment @12:04 …

there seems to be a disconnect between (i) the type of game RD said he wants us to play, (ii) the type of game we are playing, and (iii) the type of players we are buying. Many of the players are (i) of the same position, and (ii) being played out of position.

Moreover, as TimR points out, this style requires particular skills from the different roles, e.g., a pacy CB, and at least one strong defensive mid ….. or an Aimar type player to play in the middle of the 3 ….

but we dont seem to be purchasing those sorts of players…. so, we end up forcing square players into round holes so to speak …

it is like the players, management and directors dont talk to each other …. I find it rather strange…

    go to run…

    will check in later.

  25. the long wait is over on

I wont be at the semi final for a number of reasons, principally because I hate games there , irrespective of who they’re against.

Having said that if I were an attender at Hampden I would , undoubtedly, go to the games against Thems.

Like others I believe that, if you’re going to go to a game ,who it’s against is irrelevant. You’re going to support Celtic and that’s that. I appreciate that there is some inconsistency in my position in supporting the team but not, on the other hand, going to a certain venue on principal.

My main point , however , is that – like it or not and no matter how many of us don’t attend for whatever point of principal – our allocation will sell out – and fast.

I was at a mothers day meal yesterday in a bar /restaurant in Glasgow. It was fairly full and a lot of the guys there I know to be Celtic fans.

When we drew Thems there was an almighty cheer and a buzz in the place thereafter.

I’m afraid that the view of many on here does not reflect that of a great many Celtic fans who are desperate to see this game.

I suspect the players will be desperate to play in it too. It might bring a bit of spark back that’s sadly missing.

It saddens me in many ways that all of this seems to me to be the truth but there’s no point in denying it.
