‘Emerald’ Green aims for Champions League

1007

There was some misunderstanding that Charles ‘Emerald’ Green’s suggestion that he was hoping to “invest in the playing side right away” might not play well with major creditor HMRC.  Capital introduced to the company after a CVA has nothing to do with a creditor’s assessment of the offer and, if anything, would offer comfort to HMRC that the company would be able to maintain future payments.

The comments are more of a challenge for the football authorities.  The independent SFA appellant panel will today assess whether to increase, reduce of remove Rangers 12 month player registration embargo.  Rangers narrative for the last two weeks is that this embargo could put them out of business.  Apparently, they need to spend MORE money in future to ensure survival.

It remains to be seen if playing victim does them any good at appeal but Green has brushed this away, Rangers now plan to put a team on the field to win the league and reach the Champions League.  Maybe not the wisest PR move.

John O’Hara, the Celtic secretary, had been unable to lure Kelly. Glass, however, was indefatigable and said he had ‘camped on his doorstep’. The 22-year-old was talked into taking part in Celtic’s first ever match, a 5-2 win over Rangers. ‘No Kelly, no Keltic’ became a catch phrase summary of the towering centre half’s significance. ‘I knew that if I could get Kelly, the rest would follow’, said Glass.

I was living abroad when Rafael was at the club – so his impact was not as devastating for me as it might have been had I seen him in action.

Which is a good thing since I was still suffering from Regi Blinker syndrome at that point.

    ………….in your opinion.

Thing is, see. I watched both Danny and Jim Craig and ……………………..have to say, JC just edged it for me. Scored a cracker against Clyde one night. Danny can’t say that.

Met him at a party in King’s Park one night. Lovely guy.

( …..but not quite good enough to dislodge big JC ! )

No need to feel so old. I was a drunken teenage cub who didn’t pay as much attention to off the pitch affairs as I do now.

Your poser about what might have been had Barnes been successful is interesting (shivers).

Sutton was not a crock, and was out of the team because of a difference of opinion,he was still performing well in the reserve games,as I was informed by friends at the time”

So I take it you have information that:

    a) Gordon’s post-injury performances (reserves or otherwise) have been poor or

    b) Gordon has not played any football to speak of since his recovery or

    c) Gordon has not recovered from his injury

or perhaps you believe once a player suffers a significant injury they are a ‘crock’ (bit like that Larsson bloke)…

With hoopslegend DFMcgrain replacing hoopslegend Jim Craig Celtic’s glorious record in ole ‘Quizball’ might have been tarnished.

The Larsson leg break is just another example of how crucial ‘luck’ can be in sport; he doesn’t break his leg, JB holds on to his job, spme other club gets to bask in a spell of Martinist wizardry.

Michael Schumacher got started in F1 because some Belgian driver got lifted for fighting in a taxi.

Jesse Owens got to go to Berlin in 1936 because his main rival was injured.

No i don’t……….(oh god please don’t link Besiktas with Rangers). I go to Besiktas games pretty often, been to see the rest in Istanbul also.

  11. got to say, I thought next to Jinky & Henrik, King Kenny Dal was the best I’ve seen at Celtic park.

  12. the long wait is over on

Unlike others here I don’t have a clear view about KD.

He was my boyhood hero and that never really leaves you.

He was virtually without peer as a player and despite being gutted that he left us I was happy with his success at Liverpool.

I wouldn’t have wanted him to go to any other team. They were brilliant then and he was , rightly , a star.

I’ve always had a soft spot for Liverpool which was only enhanced in 2003 when we went to Anfield. I thought their fans , stewards and staff were brilliant with us. We were right in amongst them and they were welcoming to say the least and while disappointed at losing not in the slightest bit bitter or antagonistic , unlike Blackburn. Least said about them the better .

I can understand why Liverpool fans still idolise the guy, given what he did as a player and how he conducted himself through the Hillsborough disaster and its aftermath.

Having said all that , my own view of him is somewhat tainted now and has been since his spell with us. Barnes was a disastrous appointment and I remain unconvinced that the Scheidt deal was all it should have been. No-one of Kenny’s experience and knowledge should have paid the money we did for him , not in a month of Sundays.

Whatever he may have had as a manager I think he’s lost and I think its right for him and Liverpool to part.

So as a player and , mostly, as a man still have total respect for the guy.

As a manager / director of football – no, not for me.

there are a few thoughts of “what if larsson hadnt broken his leg” and “what if barnes had been successful”. well i will say it.

what the bloody hell would we be moaning about if barnes had been successful. surely thats what we would have wanted.

ok we might never have then got MON but we would still have been successful and who knows how that path might have gone

It would be great if the Huns appeal board started at 1800 and then at 1802, the appeal board made a statement that their fine and signing ban had both been doubled!

Danny McGrain would have got in before either Kenny or Henrik.

I used to get in early to the Jungle and always remember Danny coming out to warm up well before the rest of the team.

If it was wet underfoot he often came over to the Jungle side of the pitch ( because that was where he would be playing ) wearing his boots , but often carrying two additional pairs ( different length studs).

He then would take the ball boot it as high as he could and sprint ( well, run as quickly as he could) to intercept the ball.

If he was not satisfied with the grip, he would change boots and repeat until he was happy.

I often watch our players warm up but they never do that.

They then come out to play ( after the sprinklers have been soaking the pitch in their absence) and proceed to fall on their jacksie when they try a quick turn.

I was just reading the ever-excellent Roy Greenslade in the Guardian, talking about the English press and their treatment of Roy Hodgson.

In all seriousness, who the Hell would want the England job? They are destroying the guy before he’s even taken a game. Only Huns are as intolerant and ungrateful, although they have recently discovered magnanimity in the case of McCoist.

No manager could cope with the insane level of expectation from the England support. There really is a “born to rule the world” mentality there which is not conducive to failure, but this guy is being hounded before he even starts ….

Not so many flares on the go these days more at Celtic games i believe. The singing from Stand to stand in Turkey is really impressive, something that Celtic have picked up on recently.

I will be forever grateful to Inverness C for helping us to get shot of Dalglish and Barnes.

  24. Kenny Dalglish, best ever British player. If I recall correctly I think we won the league cup with him as manager after the departure of John Barnes (savaged by an eager Scottish press as was Dr Jo). Danny was a better international player though.

He sounds like he’d make a good ref: Specsavers anyone ? -) doesnt know the 3 letters on his home teams shirt.

  26. Dalglish was just an incredible player particularly as he was not blessed with pace but had an intuitive knowledge of the game few players have. For younger viewers who did not see him in his pomp he was a bit like Henrik in that he could be quite anonymous in games and then just score one out of nothing. Dalglish v Henrik is a tough call . Possibly KD but not by much.

In my opinion and in most peoples opinion. I have watched right backs at CP since 1960, Danny McGrain is far in the way the best, I liked Jim Craig but would probably not have in in my top 3.

  28. Kenny Dalglish will always be King in my mind. Idolised him as a kid and the best player I have ever seen in the hoops. Had the pleasure of meeting him and his wife Marina a few years ago and they were very down to earth and lovely people. I agree that he is nt a great manager but I wish him and Liverpool all the best in the future

  29. Jim Craig never impressed me . Thought Dunky McKay and Ian Young were better.BJ liked Craig because he had pace and understood instructions to the letter. He fitted in with what BJ wanted but was never a great FB IMO.

  30. sixtaeseven: No NewClub in SPL and it's Non-Negotiable! on

Loved KD as a Celtic player and was absolutely devastated when he was transferred to Liverpool for a paltry £440000.

Probably the last truely great player that Scotland has ever produced.

As someone mentioned earlier he should never a gone back to Celtic or Liverpool.

Those periods will only tarnish the great things he did as a player and player-manager.

I prefer to keep the memories of Kenny in a Celtic jersey, arms aloft and brilliant smile after scoring one of his 167 goals for us.
