Failure elsewhere cannot disguise abject Celtic challenge

1009

As the darkest clouds descend over Ibrox with news that medals in their trophy room have been poinded by sheriff officers, sentiment in our half of the city is no brighter.  Celtic’s best chance to win the league this season lies not in outpointing everyone else, or seeing their principle rivals lose 10 points, it is in the complete obliteration of Rangers, allowing us to take our chances with Motherwell, who can open up a six point gap between second and third against Celtic on Sunday.

Whatever the following weeks bring for Rangers, if Celtic winning the league is a consequence, we cannot allow the title to disguise the abject failure to be competitive so far this season.

I think you make a lot of good points

However I do not agree that we should keep Neil as I don’t think the position is recoverable (unless we change the whole team)

Reality is we gave Neil the job without any managerial experience – we ar at fault NOT Neil

But I do believe the position we are in now – we need a strong leader/manager

I keep going on about Mark Hughes – happy for any other options to be floated – but its not working for Neil or us

We have a centre half.experienced ,man of the match recently v Holland[world ranking No1]…Big Dan,get his friend Jesper Blonquvist in to partner him ,Cost £2.5m,same as we paid for Bang Bang ..job done.

and whilst we are there sign this boy…

Fulham, according to eatsleepsport, are rivalling Southampton in the race to secure the signature of Swedish right back, Mikael Lustig. The 24 year-old is set to be leaving Rosenborg in the January transfer window after his contract expires at the end of the year, and Jol is being claimed to have sent scouts to watch him in Sweden’s 3-2 win over the Netherlands.

part one of the revival plan..defence sorted…of course izzy at right back!..

  4. Ki just needs to be rested for a couple of weeks. He has his 3rd trip east in 2 months during the international break and its obviously taking it out of him. Leave him on the bench on Thursday, Sunday and at Inverness after the international break, then bring him back. Play Wanyama and Ledley as central midfield pairing for next three games.

  5. I never liked Jimmy Savile. 35 years ago I wrote to him saying “Dear Jim,could you fix it for me for Rangers to go bust” He curtly replied “Over my dead body”

I have a Swedish acquaintance who is baffled at the fortunes of Majstorovic at Celtic. They all really rate the guy, although he did confirm he is a confidence player.

Here’s a novel idea – how about the home fans give him some encouragement when he’s made a couple of mistakes?

mellberg is usually big dan’s partner for Sweden. Anders Granqvist is the centre half you are thinking about, he’s only recently signed for Genoa

    67ECW,

Thanks – Whilst I’m not sure geting rid of Lenon is necesarily the answer, I do recognise that he has some limitations, and I agree that he might not be able to get us out of this. Whether it.s Lennon, Hughes or another, we do need a strong manager – I agreed with Kojo earlier that the manager needs to be able to keep players on thier toes, shake things up a bit where required, even be feared (Ferguson being my example, but you could also include Mancini, Mourinho, and further down the chain, O’Neill and Smith (not that I’m saying Smith is at the same level as any of them, but he has shown he is able to do it in the SPL)).

I’m just not sure we could realistically get anyone in at this stage of the season to do it – Mark Hughes – decent choice, but would he take it? And would he stick around for long – see his stint at Fulham last year – i suspect not! And he has no experience of working the transfer market on a budget, which he’d have to do with us!

I think we aren’t helped by the Board’s priorities either – I ssupect STrachan wanted to leave after his 3rd year as he felt he had done as much as he could and it would be downhill from there (he was right) – I think Mowbrey was made promises that weren’t delivered and was given the “gift” of Robbie Keane when he wanted some defenders, I think Lennon took the job as he couldn’t beleive the opportunity he was presented, and this summer discovered the realities of the job!

Given this, I am just not sure we could attract anyone decent – apparently in Edinburgh Jim Jeffries is being mooted (Please, for the love of God, No) and Davie Hay’s name has been put forward (again, not for me)! The only possible candidates that might be realistic are Dave Jones (couldn’t get Cardiff promoted with Bellamy) and Curbishley (after West Ham – no thanks). So who do we turn to? Maybe summer will see more candidates (Malky Mackay, if he continues his good work at Cardiff?), but for now???

  12. Philbhoy-Not sure if its fust a lack of general fitness thats the problem, not tiredness. We should do our best not to release players for stupid international friendlies in a couple of weeks, and have a mini pre-season.The weakest physical team i have seen at CP.

  13. johann murdoch on

Kayal33 and Up and over goal..thanks for the info and comments, his looking like a fish out of water is mystifying to me compared with his international performances, however if you watch him off the ball he does a lot of talking to foster and mulgrew and full backs when playing alongside them, particularly to Foster letting him know when to play it short or when to launch.

Sorry but Neil Lennon was culpable in accepting the position in as much that he must have known in his heart that the job came too quick and was too big for him

  15. Bada Bing

As far as internationals go we should not allow the Scottish ones to go,as Houston of Dundee United is not going to the next one because,in his words.it is not important and he should stay at United and work at their problems.Slan

If you produce any more items my wife will have to stay up the loft all night, cant find that rug!!

  17. Ray Singh-Carr on

I have to confess I have little sympathy for players claiming they are “tired”. When I go to matches I have almost a 1,000 mile round trip from South Devon to drive, at least 2 kids to pay for, as well as food and hotel costs, and whatever we end up blowing in the Celtic Store.

I then have to take my chances that something resembling a decent performance is put on by these same players. If only “tired” were the only consequence!!!

I agree, i think lack of effort is being perceived as tiredness possibly.IMO the lack of general fitness is obvious.

  19. Drastic action for drastic times. Quick short term is get immediate help for Neil if he is to stay since we will not pay big bucks….get big John Hughes – a very good cb on my view – into that management team- and I believe Yogi would kick the cr*p out of any non performers.

Sometimes a wee bit of physical threat helps….witness the Sir Alex hairdrier treatment.

  20. Got an e mail from hun supporter sayin the leagues nearly over and its not even halloween……guess hees a bit down the way things have turned out for his team and weee naisy

  21. Compare and contrast….

ratface’s elbow at Dunfermline…..play on my son…..and what a fuss with the retrospective action

Fallon’s arm as he jumped up with Goian….straight red….off you go…….not a comment in the rags

the MIBs are stlll at it big time…Collum the most despicable and incompetent of them all.

  22. I think NL was fed a line from PL re Ki,saying he has been one of the few concistent performers……….,sounds like we are trying to punt him in January.

  23. I see harry redknapp is up to his old tricks, this time James Forrest is the object of his desire.

Old ‘arry has to be the worst manager for tapping up players via the press.

  24. well well well, STV Sports News peddle the line that naibalance done himself in by twisting his knee whilst all alone in the centre circle

A fleeting reference is made to a previous “challenge” between him and the Dons player

Wot a blatant attempt at the old smoke and mirrors routine

Are STV the New BBC Scotland ?

  27. Sonsoferin – more lkely just the usual rumour mongering – I don’t think JF is anywhere near good enough for that kind of move. Love or loathe Redknapp, he has done wonders with several clubs including Spurs. He may be a wheeler dealer in the oldest tradition (i.e. corrupt), but by God he knows how to spot a player, build a team, motivate them and is probably the most tactically astute English manager in the EPL. Pity he always looks so flippin glum.
