    I don’t think Forest has improved as a player but Ronny deserves credit for changing his training routine which has meant that he plays more often.

     

     

    Biton came out and said that he didn’t know what the manager was asking him to do and it was only after a discussion that he fully appreciated what Ronny wanted that he started playing to the level he did. So there’s no evidence to support your assertion that he’s now a better player. He’s simply demonstrating what he can do now.

     

     

    Griffiths? I saw him at Dundee. He’s doing what he was always capable of. Ask Livibhoy.

     

     

    Broony? He’s been brilliant. Better than the player he was at Hibs? I’m not convinced.

    We play in the SPFL. That means we face decline. How many teams did anything in Europe? We at least played a number of games. We need to get out of the Scotland, otherwise decline is inevitable. John Collins got it right. Nobody in Scotland can give us real competition. So, playing in Europe is too much of a step up.

    However do you think that the standard of football in Scotland is lower than that of some of the countries whose minnows have progressed?

    A draw in Turkey is a credible result but 3 points out of 18, not really acceptable

     

     

    Poor decision making by Craig tonight re goal. Should have done better. I am sure he will be disappointed with this, despite some good saves earlier.

     

     

    One “kid on” striker up front with no others on bench ( what are we expecting to do?) but Kris C rescues the night with a fine goal. Who says he is past it? Can we not see this?

     

     

    Difficult to disagree that we have not gone backwards when I compare with last year and Ronny the experiment is not working, but I still hold out hope. Am I dreaming?

     

     

    Hoping tomorrow brings a positive change. Wonder if JC will agree?

    All Celtic youth teams are playing the system as the first team. What I hear is that they are better at it. :)

     

    When Ronny gets players in the first team that suit his system I will judge him. I believe he will field a home grown XI in the first team before he leaves.

    IMHO Joe h cost us the Malmo tie .. 2-0 up and blowing them away … he is put through with keeper to beat and hits the keeper with a poor effort

     

     

    3-0 after 15 mins – we would have spanked them.

     

     

    Then if my memory serves me. . He fannied about in the last minute at the corner and this rammy distracted the defence who were already set for the corner

     

     

    Scroll onto tonight he has a yard on markovic and fails by a yard

     

     

    IMHO he was more to blame than anyone for our demise this season in Europe

    I agree we aren’t spending our money well, that’s a separate discussion. We need to get much better bang for our buck.

     

     

    We are talking about what makes a big club and that is the sort of money that we’ll never have.

     

     

    There will be lots of clubs with less money than us that are currently doing better than us, next season they might do worse. That perfectly describes Celtic over the last 10odd years.

    Celtic stop playing in Europe until we have a side capable of playing in Europe.

     

    Before anyone jumps down my throat ,we have recently had posters on here opining that Europe isn’t really all that important.

    I would imagine St Martin would have cruised the Europa League in comparison. Agreed not the CL, but a big difference between the two and it shows how much we have fallen in expectations if we think this campaign has been anything less than a disaster.

    DD@10:46 ….If the kids can get it, then why cant the first team (cos they clearly have no idea how to play the way RD wants)?! If that is correct, then dump the overpaid prima donnas in the first team, and play the kids….

     

     

    our youth team is probably good enough to win the SPL, sure they will take a humping in europe, but we are doing that already, and it will maybe stand us in good stead for the future.

    A guy was asked on a radio quiz this morning, what is the missing word from this phrase , Rome wasn’t built in a. . The guy answered , Coiliseum.

     

     

    Our overall european record in the last 41 years is not the best. Even with Celtic greats as manger and possibly with better players than we have now, out team had terrible performances and results in Europe.

     

     

    Prestige and income wise, Europe is very important , but I can’t remember the likes of Big Billy and Davie Hay ,getting criticised so much for bad performances and results in uefa competitions. We have had some great european results e.g. Real, Sporting,Ajax away (twice) , Cologne , Benfica 3 nil , Rubentus 4 3 game and Man Who but these can be countered by some abject results we have had.

     

     

    Ronny has to improve , especially in Europe, and one area where things have got better is scoring goals away from home in europe but haven’t got better in not conceding them unfortunately.

     

     

    Ronny is only partly responsible for what’s going on, the power makers and breakers upstairs have to adopt a better policy for us to get better where it matters most to us,on the pitch .

    I agree, he seems to have let the POY go to his head, not a patch on last season, and I don’t blame Ronny, he stuck by him when he was playing pish, so it’s down to him imo.

     

    Interesting if Jonnyboy is going, hopefully Ronny will get the assistant in he wants, we will just have to wait and see.

    Why TF would Ronny sign the likes of Cifcti, he is as much of his kind of player as I am FFS, of course he will toe the line and give the media the soundbites, as every coach does, but to actually believe them………

    I think a better way of viewing things, is that we have the nucleus there of a decent starting 11… 3 shrewd additions in the right positions would go a long way.

     

    I assess our squad, and it’s only my opinion but I see things like this :

     

     

    Goalkeeper : We need a new one

     

     

    Defenders : Lustig, Jozo SImo , Tierney

     

    Midfielders : Brown, Bitton

     

    Attacking Midfielders. : Commons, Forrest, Rogic, Allan, Armstrong, Christie,

     

    Strikers : Griffiths

     

     

    You’ll notice Johansen, Cifti, Boyata, Gordon etc aren’t mentioned. They aren’t listed as I don’t believe that they have any place at the club.

     

     

    What can be taken from the list however, is that we are short of a defender or 2. We are short on a quality deep lying midfielder to compete with brown and Bitton. We are well covered in attacking mid positions… But could do with a genuine challenge to Griffiths up top. And we need a keeper

    Dallas … there is some truth to what you say …. RD probably takes more flak than some of his predecessors … and, really, since the 80’s Celtic (and most scottish teams) have been an embarassment in Europe …. so, why so much angst now? …

     

     

    most of us on CQn are old enough to remember when Scottish football was decent, and struggle to understand how and why it has declined so much so quickly ….

     

     

    partly, people grow tired of being fed s**t and told it is sugar…

     

     

    partly, MON reset some people’s expectations …

     

     

    places like CQN have also done that … told that just sit back and let Sevco die and it will all be milk and honey … and we know that we are being fed a load of bullcrap….

    But like Virgil & Jason and many others St Martins work was done, Ronny is the here and now, we could all argue our case, St Martin might not have been picking the players Ronny is picking but for all his good with a far more expensive squad his away record was pretty damming but it’s all ifs and buts, and although Seville was Seville St Martin won heehaw that year
