Ferencvaros rest, regret lingers

313

While Celtic were taking care of business in Dundee, Ferencvaros had the weekend off to prepare for their Champions League qualifying game in Glasgow on Wednesday.  This means the Hungarian champions have played only two competitive games since the end of June, one in the league and last week’s qualifier against Djurgardens.

Rested players are better than tired players, but I would not be happy if Celtic were going into this match having played so few games.  Neil Lennon will have learned things from Saturday’s game that will inform his plans for Ferencvaros.

French clubs have been European champions as often as Scottish clubs.  PSG have two of the most talented and expensive strikers in the world, but they both failed to take the gilt-edged chances that fell their way in Lisbon last night, so France and Scotland stay tied on one win each.

90 minutes pass quickly in knockout football but the pain of regret lingers, just think back to Cluj or Copenhagen.  I would use post-match photos of Neymar to motivate the players ahead of Wednesday.  No one wants to feel like that loser.

  1. AIPPLE – I lived just off one of the holes on the back 9 and used to climb the fence and play a few holes at night when it was quiet :)

PHILBHOy – Yes, I’m pretty sure the TV cameras were there when I was there. I don’t recall him coming more than once. I do recall it being a not so nice day and Seve was a complete gentleman.

Also played Dullater a few times – I think there was only 1 course there at the time, but it was a great track.

  7. Anything that posits a potential positive for Celtica from the Rekkord and it’s korporate kith’n’kin is usually there so that one of its brood can trumpet a definitive negative about how Celtic has failed, been disappointed, out-witted…etc etc………

If Football Insider is talking about us signing Big Duffy – I’d bet it’s not gonna happen.

    HH.

  8. Westerwood GC never did get the Ryder Cup that it was designed specifically for.

    That would have been something!

  9. We will be very fortunate to qualify for the Champions League with Taylor and Fringpom in the fist XI.

  10. I hope I’m wrong but if Duffy is the subject of interest from Premiership or Championship clubs in England, Celtic will not be able to compete with wages on offer.

  14. BW 10.27; Agree – potential. Though some may be happy we’re swapping the teeny Greg Taylor (1.75) for the towering Aaron Hickey (1.75).

Gritty Greg is improving nicely tho an alternate would give us better cover at LB.

not denying the brilliance of individual performance at all. and they all are.

I am more talking about the 80s/90s working men making it good in places like IBM who joined these clubs that would not have had them 10 years before. Membership was allowed because they needed the money.

Been told often about sectarian banter as they played rounds.

Why join in with that shite,

Anyways, I need to check my dues for the Rankin Park club, the Larkfield Mazonic , The Upper Port and Wellington Bowling club.
