Find how best to use Scott Brown

815

Neil Lennon will be delighted to have secured his captain, Scott Brown, on a new long-term contract which sees the player tied to the club until after his 30th birthday in 2015, with the club having an option to extend the deal by a further 12 months.

Scott joined Celtic in 2007 and played central midfield until last season, when he was occasionally used wide right, to great effect.  Reflecting some of the conversations we had earlier this week with Georgios Samaras, who has recently been a revelation wide-left after years of frustration as part of a front pairing, Scott seemed to revel in the space the wider position allowed him to exploit.

Before joining Celtic Scott made his name playing almost as an auxiliary striker at Hibernian, where he would burst into the box with well-timed runs but at Celtic he is more commonly anchored in a defensive midfield role.  As a consequence, despite having played more games for Celtic than Hibs, and playing for a team who attack far more often, he has still to match his Hibs goals scored total at Celtic.

  1. ‘Irish Republican Marxists’ must be smashed? Why not go the whole hog and say sexually deviant, child abusing, aids ridden, recession causing, Santa murdering scumbags?

Puts into perspective the ‘woe is me, I dont want to jail wee boys’ performance of Ass Con Corrigan on the radio a few weeks ago.

Balance that with ‘David Goodwillie’s accuser receives £11,000 compensation’ from the Criminal Injuries Board as they believe she was indeed raped, although no one stood trial. Strange law of the land right enough!

    Absolutely ridiculous.

This league is going to be harder to win than I thought as That is 100% cheating by the referee.

I think the telling passage in the article is that referring to the past expressed views of UEFA’s Head of Communications:

“In late 2006, the then UEFA head of communications William Gaillard held a press briefing in Hampden at which he was asked why it was that Rangers fans had been pursued for “discriminatory” singing – in the form of the sectarian The Billy Boys – but UEFA have never investigated Celtic over their IRA chants. Gaillard described these as two separate issues and said Celtic could be bracketed with many clubs whose supporters championed nationalist causes and who UEFA did not see as meriting disiplinary procedures. Only when it came to the Balkan countries was the situation different, with clubs in those nations handed sanctions for their chanting for political organisations who, in pursuing ethnic cleansing, were by their nature discriminatory. That did not apply to the IRA, he stated.”

I suspect a similar decision would be reached if this issue ever ends up in a (non Scottish) court…

I am no experton tax matters but I was under the impression you can be jailed for non payment of tax so if that is the case and Rangers are found guilty of tax avoidence surely the man in charge Sir Minty should be jailed.Of course it will never happen in our corupt wee masonic country.H.H.

I didn’t see the blatant dive until this morning. How any ref could give that is beyond me.

  12. Mulgrew not in the team, heard news that his second child was born this morning, so probably the reason he is missing.

Celtic score first and we’ll probably win, but NL is a gambling the Celtic way because DU could play five midfielders.

Aluko deserves all the pelters he gets now,he is hun.

At least with the likes of Davis you can have a wee bit of respect for the boy because he’s a decent player but Aluko has just joined the ranks of Lafferty and Naismith,an embarrassing elite of talent trading no marks who will never be any respectable part of football history.

Whilst the referees committee is a bombproof annexe protected by funny handshakes Scottish football will always be about the protection of a quintessential non tax paying British football club.

No wonder Aluko paid his way in.

WWC – that’s really interesting. I’ve heard some Huns try to claim that BOTOB is about ethnic cleansing due to some atrocities that happenend in the Cork area back in the period that the song is based.

It’s patent nonsense, but that statement from UEFA clarifies the approach now being taken in this country to criminalise the Hoops support for political singing.

BTW, it’s a bit feckin rich for any Hun to talk about ethnic cleansing….Plantations, Black n Tans, B-Specials, etc.!

  17. Interesting – first time I have listened to Pardew at length (Goals on Sunday SS1).

His team were on the end of a poor decision yesterday – he admited they got a lucky one for the penalty last week (v Man Utd) and he spoke candidly about that and the thumping they got at the hands of Man City.

How different from our SPL highlights (BBC) – instead of some pundit (usually a failed ex-manager) SS1 are prepared to look at controversial decisions. They dissect them – show them in slow-mo – atribute blame and discuss the consequences.

Pardew’s thoughts on the Cahill sending off and the 2 off-side decisions in the QPR game were enlightening.

Meanwhile in the SPL we enjoy football reporting that the Stasi would have been proud of – had they still been around today!

To be fair, Collum was not looking when he awarded Broadft penalty !!!

  19. How many penalties have the Huns had this season now?? Must be getting close to 10??

Hoping for a win for the Celtic today, got a tidy sum riding on it!!! 2-0 to the Hoops!!!

  20. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Paddy gallacher. Your spot on Fella we have a good squad in my opinion. However,I feel to win the SPL we would need to win every game until the end of the season and the cheating MIB are not going to allow that to happen we can only hope Rangers implode thats our best chance.H.H.

  21. tommytwiststommyturns on

WITS – Conroy and Collum (not involved yesterday, but remember the eyes in back of head decision at CP) were supposed to be from “Celtic Minded” backgrounds, but they’re acting worse than masons in black!

We thought that we had sorted this stuff with the SFA last season….it would appear not!
