Finding a keeper should be the easy part of the week

449

I think we all got that sinking feeling when we heard it was a knee injury, which kept Craig Gordon from appearing in the second half on Saturday. So news today that the player hopes to be back this season is a great relief. It still, however, mean we need to make moves to secure a replacement.

Dorus de Vries did well on Saturday, in particular with his distribution from feet, but we cannot play have a season with only a 37-year-old keeper. This will be causing some stress at Celtic Park right now but it should not be too difficult a position to fill. Fraser Forster was fifth choice at Newcastle when we loaned him.

There are plenty of clubs with three or more good keepers. My preference would be to get someone with the profile of Fraser; someone we could mould with an eye on a future permanent move, but I suspect this is likely to be a risk-averse appointment and we’ll get someone the manager is confident can do the job.

Resisting the temptation to talk about Charly for now. There’s lots to say on the subject, but let’s wait for things to formalize.

just saw your post about Cliftonhill. I love the place – go up occasionally on a Sat if I have time. If I won the lottery I would build an all seater, all singing, all dancing 500 capacity stadium for the Rovers :-)

Loved the Airdrie games in the 80’s and 90’s. Never seen fighting like it at a football match!

Played there a couple of times – it’s a hell of a big playing surface. Remember a cup final there in May, the grass was long and it was roasting. felt like someone had drugged me for the last half hour, could hardly run.

    Memories, eh!

Whit size a PLC bonus is beautiful Brendan on tae keep schtum, on tap ae his £45 k a week Old Firm Same Club Lie Fudge money ?

  4. CELTIC are delighted to announce that highly-rated attacking midfielder, Charly Musonda, has joined the club on an 18-month loan deal from Chelsea.

The Belgian Under-21 internationalist has been a much sought-after player in this transfer window, with many of Europe’s top clubs keen to take him on loan. However, both the player and his parent club believe that his football development will be best served at Celtic Park under the guidance of Brendan Rodgers.

The Celtic manager is a long-time admirer of Charly Musonda, and is delighted to have added the 21-year-old to his first team squad. Charly came through the youth ranks at Anderlecht before joining Chelsea back in 2012.

He has made seven appearances for the Chelsea first-team, scoring one goal in a League Cup win over Nottingham Forest last September, while he also spent a year on loan with Real Betis in Spain.

Everyone at Celtic welcomes Charly to the club and wishes him every success during his time with the green and white Hoops.

  6. Great to see Musonda here at Celtic Park… A Great Bit Of Business.

I looked at 100 best young prospects the other day… Was looking for O.Edouard. I got the wrong year, it was an earlier lot.

How many of these have we got in our Squad… Only Five.

I would have thought there was one major flaw in your Theory re Chelsea bidding for first refusal on Karamoko.

And that is that it is not in Celtic’s gift to offer this.

Karamoko has not signed pro terms with Celtic and, until he does, first refusla lies in the gift of Karamoko and his representatives.

Chelsea did not need to offer Celtic anything to nick Islam Feruz (last seen last year at Swindon Town) nor give Sevco anything for Billy Gilmour. Their pounds can be very persuasive to families looking for their first big football pay day.

At present, I would read it as long odds against that we will see Karamoko’s first pro contact being at Celtic.

It’s a pity! But that’s the way of the world.

  9. Delighted that the 18-month loan deal for Charly has been confirmed. Will be slightly happier once someone confirms he will also be available for the Zenit game.

  10. Probably delayed, as Brendan was going over recent games with Charly, and telling him where he wants him to play…..i think he will start tomorrow night

  11. Charley Musonda 21 yrs 31 first team appearances 2 goals. Ryan Christie 22 yrs 131 first team appearances 24 goals.

When I “trained” at the Rovers, Wullie Teller was the manager. Nice man very encouraging to me.

I was there when Tony Green was sold to Blackpool and he was only 10 times better than me…

I will be very surprised if he starts tomorrow.

I feel this is a very good signing.

Played in a final at Cliftonhill as a young Bhoy circa 1983, (I was nearly 13) am sure back then it was the second biggest playing surface behind Hampden

A few mates who have season tickets at Celtic also attend the Rovers when we don’t have a game, my daughter doesn’t let me attend and I do as the wee boss wishes :-)

Charly Musonda is a tremendous signing for @CelticFC – It highlights the importance having a manager the calibre of Brendan Rodgers, clearly trusted to continue the development of such a highly regarded talent, Scottish Football just became a little bit richer tonight.

Graham Murty and the Lying King spotted in McDonald’s Paisley. This must be the high level summit about new (loan) players.

well done to the board – hopefully he lives up to the reputation and well done for developing this strategy – I’m glad to see the back of the days when habeens came up to us to play shi* for 6 months (sorry craig bellamy that’s not you).

  24. We should start taking Murty’s marvels a wee bit more seriously than we have up until now. They are a poor team but Murty is getting results. No time for complacency. Hh
