Finding a keeper should be the easy part of the week

449

I think we all got that sinking feeling when we heard it was a knee injury, which kept Craig Gordon from appearing in the second half on Saturday. So news today that the player hopes to be back this season is a great relief. It still, however, mean we need to make moves to secure a replacement.

Dorus de Vries did well on Saturday, in particular with his distribution from feet, but we cannot play have a season with only a 37-year-old keeper. This will be causing some stress at Celtic Park right now but it should not be too difficult a position to fill. Fraser Forster was fifth choice at Newcastle when we loaned him.

There are plenty of clubs with three or more good keepers. My preference would be to get someone with the profile of Fraser; someone we could mould with an eye on a future permanent move, but I suspect this is likely to be a risk-averse appointment and we’ll get someone the manager is confident can do the job.

Resisting the temptation to talk about Charly for now. There’s lots to say on the subject, but let’s wait for things to formalize.

  1. Getting EPL players to come to Celtic such as Paddy Roberts and Charly Musonda on 18 month deals is another Celtic first, and a tremendous accolade right up there to keep Cheat FC in the gutter where they don’t even belong.

Paddy Roberts will have spent 2 1/2 years at Celtic by the time we’re picking up treble two, and who knows the level we can reach under BR.

We are light years ahead of the competition and just did our ‘big shop’ in Chelsea, a season and a half and a deal and a half.

    Well done, Peter and Brendan.

  2. This isn’t an investment. It’s an incredibly expensive sticking plaster.

Nonetheless when you are bleeding you do need a sticking plaster (or maybe a proper bandage).

But my goodness is he the messiah or just a very naughty bhoy?

Still need more signings or are you all to excited to forget that or indeed the fact we are cash rich?

  3. Musonda is the calibre of player we could normally not afford therefore a loan deal appears good business. As for all the the boys we have nurtured and trained just loan them out. Not for me folks. Hh

C’mon you must be happy about Charly and there’s still 2 days to go.

    KEEP THE FAAITH

  5. NEG

You really canny see anything good about having a player of that quality at Celtic?

    KEEP THE FAITH

  6. Tonyrome celtic have money but no ambition. Celtic are selling us down the river with the sfa et al. I have little to be happy about. Our success is great but our blind eye to cheating will ever be our shame.

But CQN doesn’t like talking about that.

When you watch the interview you realize how important Brendan is to Celtic at the moment

‘…to keep Cheat FC in the gutter where they don’t even belong.’

I wish I had said that! Well put!

  9. Six o’clock already

I was just in the middle of a dream

    We were signing a Galactico

    From some top Italian team

    But that can’t be right

‘Cause then I guess they’d want to get paid

    These are the days

When you wish your bid was already made

    It’s just another Musonda Monday

    I wish it was Hunday

    ‘Cause that’s my fun day

My I don’t have to run day

    It’s just another Musonda Monday

Have to catch an early train

Got to get to training by nine

And if I had an air-o-plane

I could swoop for another wee sign (ing)

But it takes Lawell so long

Just to figure out what’s gonna be his share

Blame it on the biscuit tin

    That Messi isn’t already there

    All of the nights

Why did Lawell have to pick last night

    To turn him down

    Doesn’t it matter

That we have to beat that Murty team

    Our lead is down

He tells me in his boardroom voice

C’mon honey, let’s go heat some driveways

    Time it goes so slow

When you’re so scared of the hun

    It’s just another Musonda Monday

    I wish it was Hunday

    ‘Cause that’s my fun day

My I don’t have to run day

    It’s just another Musonda Monday

  10. Having to rely on loans is the modern day Football equivalent of zero hours contracts.

But it’s the would in which we live.

For every Henke, Broonie and (I sincerely hope) KT there are so many more VVDs and Wanyamas who will use as a stepping stone….and Bellamys and Roberts (?) whose stays will be bright but all too brief.

Indeed the only constants are the Club and the supporters.

So for all long as young Charly is wearing the Hoops and playing for that jersey he’ll have my full support in return.

Tonyrome celtic have money but no ambition.

I think that particular argument is dead and buried, at least for a while. Ambition is cheap, results trump ambition every time

  12. BOURNESOUPRECIPE

Seems happy the Bhoy to be here and Brendan is the key obviously to getting quality players in.

Alternatively we could show some ambition eh:)))

  13. NEGANON2

Contrary to many peoples view on here i think you have a lot of very valid points.

Don’t agree with your opinion on the Musonda deal.

In the present doped football landscape and the effects of Bosman very few players stay at clubs for a long time.

Young Mikey Johnston looks to have the skill to be a star but at this moment he needs to be bigger and stronger.Musonda being here has the benefit of adding a real quality player to squad and someone young guys could learn from and emulate.

We are weak in some areas and would hope the board see this as a priority but won’t hold my breath.

I think we should push the boat out in the transfer market so not a fan of the boards strategy but i think this is a deal that makes sense.

  14. Neganon, I agree with lots of your posts

Not tonight though on an 18month deal for Charly Musonda

If it costs us £1m for the loan, then another £800k for his salary, yes expensive for someone who is not our player

    But

If we paid £8m for him ( which is way below Chelsea value) how much in wages then for 2 years ? And then how much could we then sell him for out of the FtSPFL ?

    Your a clever guy

This 18 month deal is very decent value, if only costing us £10k per week

Particularly if it helps us to the double treble, qualify for Champions league, then onto the treble treble next year :-)))

    Hail Hail

PS – agree on point about the board and FtSFA

  15. What is the Stars on

    Gordon

So we bring young lads through and then loan them out…. (unless like Tierney McGregor and Forrest they force their way into the first team) what’s wrong with that.

Brendan obviously decides the others aren’t up to scratch (yet ?)

He wants better quality like in his opinion Musonda. We can’t afford Musonda outright (40 Grand a week) but we can negotiate a loan deal for 18 months with his parent club.

    What’s wrong with that.

Last season when Dembele signed a poster on here suggested we would be better off re signing Tony Watt !!

  16. SFTB

Maybe it’s a verbal agreement between both Clubs and Karamoko’s representatives. If we think the young fella is slipping away from us then maybe it’s best to get ahead of it. Like I said it’s just a theory.

  17. blantyretim is praying for the Knox family on

Having never played football manager I have absolutely no idea who Charly is or how good he is or can be,

If he is as good as they say he will improve our team so we move closer to the treble

ANY EAST COAST BHOYS GOING TO PHILLY THIS WEEKEND FOR THE CELTIC FESTIVAL?

  18. Wits Charly will very likely be a better quality of player than we currently have but he will be gone in 18 months. I thought Brendan wanted to build a team for the future. Hh

  19. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

I’m delighted to have a player with the reputation of Charla Musonda join us for the next 16 months. I’m confident he’ll live up to that reputation with us. I’m not so chuffed,of course, that our business so far is an out-of-favour CH and a loan deal, but heyho.

I can only hope that, when fit, these two signings are regular first-picks. So far from BR’s dozen or so signings, only Olivier Ntcham and Scott Sinclair have managed that.

  20. Tonyrome et al I certainly hope this signing is a success. But I gotta wonder at strategy. What are we trying to achieve as a club. Short terminal? Distraction?

Why you listen to Paul67 this sort of throwaway cash stuff makes no sense.

Then again Paul stopped making sense a long time ago. As things stand right now Celtic are well in the black transfer wise and that’s ignoring the champions league income.

We have done next to nothing.

All of your excitement means nothing.

Why the hell cant we be honest and the board be honest with us?

That was a rhetorical question by the way.

Strategy on getting better as a team.pffffffff. Give us the money.

  21. Some folks bitter bitter anti Celtic agenda really will eat them up one day …..

Sad when Celtic’s incredible succesful era brings such angst and stress to flok who actually claim to support Celtic.

Celtic en route to 7 in a row and maybe even a second treble in 2 years ? And in Europe for only the 7th time in my adult life after xmas …. All in the past 15 years !

Celtic’s dominance on the park and long term signing policy in an age of chaos in football whilst competing in a rigged commercial market makes me happy.

  22. What is the Stars on

    Gordon

Yes true. Good point of course.

Hopefully he can do both (build a team while using loan signings when needed)
