First G.o.D. reaches age of majority

Walking to the ground yesterday my brother and I were explaining to the younger generation how special these moments were, in the context of some of years we’ve lived through. Our decade in the wilderness ended 18 years ago, but that’s our 12th title in that period. We’ve turned what looked and felt like a never ending period of subjugation into a complete domination.

As that league win in 1998 reaches the age of majority, it is indisputably a Generation of Domination. None of this came as a surprise, in fact, it was inevitable.

You win or lose individual leagues and trophies often on the bounce of a ball, but the structural forces behind football shift slowly. The path we were on when Fergus left us in 1999 led to what was to come. A policy of paying your bills and keeping debt within reach was going to lose the odd title here or there, but we were always going to win the long game against a competitor who got a little carried away.

The only question now, is how many generations will it last? Or perhaps more tellingly, will it ever end?  Don’t count on it.

I think Rogic is the far more imaginative and technically gifted, notwithstanding the fitness issues.

Maybe Bitton should reinvent himself as the combative type….read the game, win the ball via interceptions, chasing down opponents a bit more… I’m not saying go flying into challenges all over the place, but by the same token no Celtic midfielder can be ducking out of challenges or hesitating when the ball is theirs to win. That was my issue.

I agree about technique and athleticism, but it has to be in that order…. we released Andy Robertson because he was too small. Billy Stark comments that Xavi and Iniesta wouldnt have made it in Scotland were telling. Technique first, athleticism can be worked on.

Agree 100%. JC is and was and is in an elite band of Celtic players who had the ability to play at the highest level.

Ok, its not quite worked out the way we wanted with JC and RD, but I am still of the opinion that the ideas were correct. Its a pity the performances did not match.

In my opinion, we as in many of the Celtic support are far too eager to trash our former players.

The time reaper, what is your point,if its a dig at the current, Celtic Board, for the main stand to be upgraded, then you my friend ,like myself and other fans ,we will just be wasting our time, this mob that run our club, take all the freebies, that’s going, but they treat the main folk, who put plenty of money into the club, with contempt,I know wee need a new manager, wee also need a board that will look after the ordinary fans, hopefully, there will be big changes in the Summer,

Perhaps I’m behind the times and maybe the piece is not a current production but if it is, it would have made the greatest leader of all time on CQN.

Gives KT the experience and cover he needs and allows Izzy to use one of his great facets – roving down the left and getting the ball across. Freedom to roam without the ultimate responsibility of full-back. Can interchange with the youngster too when energy levels dip.

Would give us a great dynamic left-side. nightmare to defend against that pair.

The Jewish State of Israel may have come into being as a result of UN vote but a pity that the Netanyahu government doesn’t abide by UN decisions. If it were to do so there may yet be a peaceful solution acceptable to the majority of the oppressed Palestinian people.

However, at this juncture, and accepting that we oppose oppression everywhere ought we not to get back to Celtic. At a time when the corruption within SFA needs our attention and hopefully an early statement from CFC will be made and attract publicity that IMHO should be our main focus

Some of this morning’s posts, again IMO, are on speed scroll by button. Perhaps many of you will think the same of mine but there is a danger of CQN lapsing into silliness. HH

Izzy has many attributes but crossing isnt one of them and he is as prone to switching off as the much maligned Efe.

If we were to read anything into his lap of honour, it could be construed as him waving goodbye, but then the Maestro did throw his boots into the Jungle (saddest day of my young Celtic supporting days) and then, thankfully, was still here the following year.

I think you missed my point in regards to Armageddon in Scottish football

Hearts have financially successfully turned around the club, they now have 3mill in reserve

They have reduced away allocations to all clubs just not Celtic, if Scottish football is going to climb above a backwater what Hertz are doing under Mrs Budge guidance is a step in the right direction

I’m well aware of statements Mrs Budge has made in ref to Celtic fans i don’t agree with her on that issue no need to point me in that direction

Dundee fans complaining below, its just not Celtic fans

When they came to visit Dens Park we handed them 25% of the ground. And to be fair to them they filled it.

“But Dundee could easily have taken more than the 700 we were offered.

“This club regularly takes more fans than that away from home and that number is particularly high when we travel to Edinburgh, especially since we’ve not played Hearts for two years.

“Club policy seems to be that unless you are Aberdeen or Celtic you don’t get the full 1,400. Everyone outside of those two is dished out just 700.

That was my issue.”

If you look at his time at Ashdod he played in a more advanced position & if he was bought as a ready made defensive midfielder (replacement for Wanyama) then I think that was a mistake. I do agree with you on Rogic being more imaginative & fitness being his main issue but he has a similar stature to Nir & is also guilty of shirking a challenge or two. Yet comes in for little criticism.? To be clear, I like them both & think we should be building a team around them.

This season has been poor in terms of our collective midfield. Brown maybe down to injuries has been terrible since November & Johansen well he’s been awful all year. Nir made a good start to the season but for much of it really hasn’t had a reliable partner, either offensively or defensively to play along side. I’d hope we find one for next season & then I think it would be fairer to judge his overall contribution.

Specifically on your above paragraph though. Could be wrong but I think this is what we are trying to coach in to Nir but given this wasn’t his game pre Celtic it’s fair to expect this will take time. Although I do see him doing the things you highlight effectively but only sporadically. Who knows given time perhaps he can be developed into an effective & consistent defensive midfielder as for sure we desperately need one. For me though, I see other more offensive qualities in him that I’d prefer to exploit. Let’s see what the summer brings but if it was up to me a defensive midfielder to play in behind him & a fit Brown would be at the top of my list.
