Fit & proper waste of time

760

The proposed SFA rule change, that clubs must conduct an investigation into prospective new owners, went through unopposed at the Association’s AGM, currently underway at Hampden.  No formal rules must be observed during this investigation, not even the ‘Gandhi criminal rule’ postulated by (still) SPL chief executive, Neil Doncaster, so a club can look into the matter as deeply as they see appropriate and the former owner can claim he was “duped” after the money appears in his bank account.

This does not strengthen efforts to keep unfit people from owning Scottish clubs, if anything, it provides errant clubs with a defence.  Previously it was explicitly the club’s responsibility to ensure owners were fit and proper, now the club’s responsibility is limited to carrying out an unspecified value judgement.  Tune in soon to hear “We carried out an investigation consistent with best practice, why punish us?”

In this instance, value judgements are worth as much as Ibrox valuations. It’s not the rules that are wrong, the only problem is one club didn’t respect the rules and doesn’t like the medicine.

No mention yet of the dark Fifa cloud hanging over the Association. Perhaps it’s slipped their mind.

  1. Jude, all 18 holes are complete, have been for the last 2 years or so.

My son and I cycled through it the other day.

If you play you should have a round, like I say, a few guys have said it’s very good and very reasonably priced.

  2. Probably posted earlier, but on the BBC site, their pundits were asked for their top 4 for the Euros. Hansen’s:

    1. Spain 2. Germany 3. Holland 4. Portugal.

Which, if you know your stuff, is not really possible because three of them are in the same group. All over the twitter-verse, then the BBC add this:

[Alan’s predictions recognise three of his heavily-fancied teams are all in Group B. However, he is tipping the two teams that qualify to do well at Euro 2012.]

    Aye ok Alan.

Interesting post on Phil’s blog ….

I am aware that things have to take their course but how long can it really take to get to the bottom of things and deal with RFC for their alleged wrongdoing. The BTC & the dual contracts, now no punishment for going outside football to civil courts?

Plus it is being left to the individual clubs to complete fit & proper tests on change of ownership….which is exactly how CW got in in the first place.

When the CoS returned the decision a panel should’ve been convened within days as every days delay is building a larger clusterfuck for next seasons fixtures and commercial deals.

Plus why is CG being given such sympathetic ‘hearing’ by SFA/EPL and being allowed into meetings etc…he doesn’t own the club yet. He’s just a bidder- and one that’s has told public porkies to boot. 20 in consortium….eh Naw!

Getting to stage where SFA/SPL seem to be making pigs ear of whole situation & dragging every decision out in hope that they don’t actually have to make one…and new club is up & running before they decide any newco punishment and they can then say that the rules don’t allow them to punish newcoRFC coz rules weren’t in in time.

Off to dreamland now, Fholks, but just wondering…….. Has there been any commentary as to where they are getting the money to pay the players etc until they are sold ? ……. If it’s from any season tickets they have managed to sell, that will deplete their ability to fund the newclub, which is all to the good….since it may make their stay in div 3 that wee bit longer …..

By all means, let us criticise Rangers.

They are a nasty, divisive & sectarian club.

They have NO place in the modern world.

However, we should not ever believe that the club started by guys like Moses McNeil was created as a bitter, anti-Catholic organisation.

    It was NOT.

Rangers welcomed the Irish community in Glasgow as they started their own club.

They were not in any way hostile to their new rivals.

From those early days comes the now reviled name of the ‘Old Firm’.

We WERE partners in exploiting our dominance of Scottish football.

It was only in the immediate pre-WW1 years, with the influx of shipyard workers from Belfast, that Rangers adopted their sectarian policies.

Many Glasgow families had already attached themselves to the Govan side by that time.

    There,.. but for fortune…

Don’t fall into the trap of hating ALL Rangers supporters.

Those who follow them BECAUSE of their sectarianism are more than worthy of the contempt in which we hold them.

But never forget that there are families in our town who have followed Rangers since their birth at Flesher’s Haugh on Glasgow Green, who are our neighbours & workmates, & in some cases part of our families.

Let us NEVER hate in the way that we are hated.

  17. I have a real problem with these SFA currants.

I believe they have the Huns dates entered in the Canadian fixture computer and have neglected to ensure that Dundee (who would replace the cheats) have their fixtures co-ordinated with the Arabs.

Surely we must blow the lot up and start again.

    ALL crass and no class.

This morning would-be Rangers owner Charles Green may feel he has pulled off a cunning and clever masterstroke by sparking a rush to rip Sir David Murray’s name off the training complex he always saw as his legacy.

One man’s masterstroke, though, is another man’s cheap shot, low blow punch in the b***s.

I fully recognise that Murray’s reign at Rangers will forever now spark seething debate.

Yet, in this headlong rush to vilify the steel tycoon who swept into power at Ibrox in October 1988 when his close pal Graeme Souness persuaded him to take the plunge, some searching questions have to be answered.

Without Murray would Rangers have signed Mo Johnston and smashed down the barrier of signing a high-profile Catholic star? No.

Would they have careered on to nine titles on the spin and matched rivals Celtic’s historic feat? No.

Would genuine superstars like Brian Laudrup and Paul Gascoigne have ever worn a Rangers jersey? No.

This morning Sir David Murray deserves to sit in morbid silence and survey the death of Rangers’ legacy.

Under massive pressure from Lloyd’s Bank to offload Gers in a hurry he ignored sound advice from those around him and flogged the club to Craig Whyte.

The truth is that if Murray was duped that day then it would have been the first time. He wasn’t.

Deep down I’m sure he knew Whyte was a chancer and a gambler who would speculate to accumulate.

In the end when Ally McCoist’s side crashed and burned in Europe, twice, Whyte couldn’t even pay the taxes.

What has happened since as a crippled club have been dragged through the mire has been a sickening scandal that will now always besmirch Rangers’ 140-year history.

The downfall of Murray’s Rangers will always be a source of pleasure to those who hated his bombast and his bravado.

Yet the fact remains that without their controversial former chairman a glory-laden chapter in Gers’ folklore would never have been written.

For me, forget Whyte for now. The collapse began when Murray started chasing the impossible dream. The Champions League.

The constraints of Scotland’s footballing landscape meant he threw good money after bad, watched Dick Advocaat lavish £72million on stars who failed in Europe when it mattered most.

It is significant that the nearest Gers ever came to the Holy Grail was under the stewardship of Walter Smith in 1993 when a break of the ball in Marseille would have taken them to the final.

Murray will reflect on that this morning as Green surveys the bitter aftermath of a back-alley attack on a man who in my book does NOT deserve it.

The former Ibrox supremo will take the bitter regrets he nurses over the sale of Gers to Whyte to his grave.

Those pondering whether to call the training ground he built after Moses McNeil or Davie Cooper should remember their right to do so comes with a caveat attached.

Renew your season ticket, kick the fallen king, roll up, roll up. Sorry, but for me the actions of Mr Green last night are nothing to be proud of.

the poision of murray reaches way in to the msm and shows how corrupt and

biased they are, the scottish msm can never ever be called journalists, puppets

and propagandists is all they can ever be, they know it and they now know that we

all know it,disgusting what they have done to a once noble profession.

New name for Murray park? Rosa Parks was mentioned earlier – how about Rosa Wee Hooses? Isn’t that what’ll be there soon anyway?

How can a preferred bidder/prospective owner get to rename the ground anyway? He seems to be being allowed to do things that, say, the propective owner of a house wouldn’t be allowed to do. If I merely told you I was interested in buying your house then I don’t think you’d be inclined to let me change the colour of the paintwork and rename it ‘Oor Ain’ before you saw the colour of my money!

Gwen was one of those UGLY women, so she never had a boyfriend.

So she went to a psychic for help.

Honey! – said the psychic. You will not have luck in love in this life. But after death, you will be a much desired woman and all men will fall at your feet.

Gwen left very happy and so excited, as she went over a bridge she thought: “The sooner I die, the sooner my next life begins”

She decided to jump off the bridge right away.

    But, incredibly Gwen didn’t die!

She fell on the back of a truck full of bananas; she lost her senses and fainted. As soon as she recovered, still drowsy and not being able to see very well, and not knowing where she was, she started touching her surroundings.

Feeling all the bananas she mumbled with a huge smile on her face and said:

“GENTLEMEN, PLEASE!,… ONE AT A TIME!”
