Foregone conclusion territory

1955

I don’t know about you but practically every football thought I have at the moment is connected to where we go next. The small matter of winning the league title has slipped into ‘foregone conclusion’ territory, which is always dangerous.

The players will be no different from the rest of us, but they will have more on their minds. A change of manager is likely to mean a new system, and new squad requirements. They need to focus on making the best of the next five games. One thing that has been reassuring this week is Ronny Deila’s comments. His professional pride is clear; he’ll apply himself fully to the task in hand until the end of the season.

Eyes on the task of winning the league, as soon as possible.

    GEORDIE MUNRO

I recall Smith describing his upcoming CL campaign as “must be better than last year.”

Reason being,as he said, they had lost two of the home ties 4-1. No-one contradicted him,but he kinda corrected himself.

To paraphrase,”I don’t count the Unirea game. They were just lucky”

Aye,lucky to also win 4-1. Unlucky that when they went nipples north, they stayed dead.

  2. My vision for next season is along the lines of:

    ———————–C.Gordon———————

    S.Jancko. Erik. Jozo. K.Tierney

I’d love to see Scott Allan get a run of games, definitely think the Bhoy has something. I hope Ronnie releases the young guns tomorrow.

He has Nothing to lose. I want GA centre. SJ,SB and NB should not be selected.

10 Mill for Nir – Not after last weekend. I Love Israel but some of those that played last week were so SELF CENTRED.

    Nir, Leave Glasgow Celtic ASAP.

    Mikael – Leave as well.

    Leave it yeah

    Aye, they wish.

Didn’t know he mentioned Moyes, matters not, we will end up with a Pedro project, unless Dermo decides, is he willing to weigh in, cos that’s what it will take.

Anyways, it’s never dull being a Tim :-)

  5. Controversial for some…

    That know little about football.

So, yes…. I believe we need 2 guys in midfield that can not only dictate play, but also defend well. (Brown and Bitton can’t tackle. Neither of them. And they don’t protect the space presented to opposition by our attacking fullbacks.)

And , I also think we need a class centre forward. Yip, I’ve said it. Leigh Griffiths, 37 goals n all, is not good enough for my vision of Celtic. Not good enough to lead the line in Champs league qualifiers. Not good enough to capitalise on penalty opportunities. Not good enough in most big games this season.

  6. Ruggyman

    You keeping that 4,2,3,1 :-)

No slight earlier towards Svietchenko- agreed he has looked decent in what we have seen so far

With regards Janko, as previous, I was unaware he had a broken leg, may be a bit of time before he is ready again for first team ?

Ok Nytol – I’ve got the Celtic to see at 3 :-)

  7. TET

Just before I go, in that article it states Ronny knew 6 months ago he was making no impact ?

What did our board not pick up on this ?

  8. CultsBhoy can not relate to Celtic Board ambitions on or off the park on

    Ruggyman

Griffiths is not good enough on his own but I think paired with the right guy he’s got massive potential.

Griffiths should bill Lawwell for double wages as he played the role of 2 strikers this year.

  9. I be at Celtic park tomorrow , cheering on the bhoys to 5 in a row

its not worked out for ronnie but lets make him feel appreciated for the

    3 trophys hes won .

Cos of the guys profile he faced a hostile media from day 1 , conducted himself

well but perhaps should have had a bit more support from club .

Never did himself any favours with same formation every game every wk ,

but lets no throw him to the gutter press just now

Finally any fan or board that wants the huns back in whatever form , you should have

been in my seat next to seggregation last wk , a vile , scum , mob , a vermin club and followers

Hail hail………………c,mon you bhoys in green

  10. Cowiebhoy

Yes, before you go…Jancko damaged his ankle badly. It was operated on. He has had a long spell out, but has been back training with first team squad the last 2 weeks or so.

    Not to be written off.

Specially if Moyes comes in, as it was Moyes that brought Jancko as an 18yr old to Man Utd

    ROY

Good lads,I described you both well as cognoscenti!

Daft wee things like that we’re why me and my mates used to win pub quizzes, much to the fury and consternation of our opponents. It also helped that we had a rule to stop arguments.

First answer given is final. If you want to overrule it,you have to buy a round if you are wrong!

Days of yore, another fine tradition ruined by technology. And people googling.

  12. You take Leiscter and work down the way.

All top sides in eps, work with one main striker.

At Leiscter the main man is obviously Vardy…. Vardy is quicker, stronger, more consistent, and a better all round player than Griffiths.

Then move down the table…. All eps clubs, have A) centre forward, that practically leads the line, with power, pace, strength , and an ability to score.

Backed up by good attacking players that can contribute goals.

Leiscter are the perfect example to follow. A team with defenders that defend. A team that are well organised. A team with respect for the manager. A team with a strong will to win.

A well organised defence to middle.

And then complemented with quality in final third.

It’s not hard….. It’s the perfect model to follow.

    Teamwork, with quality up top.

I used to go out wi a lass from Minneapolis/St Pauls a l-o-n-g time ago. She had a degree in Drama.

We were staying in London at the time. I put The Silencers on and she was mightily impressed. I wonder why…

Lets not forget Leigh Griffiths would not be here if our PC brigade had there way. So no , PL does not owe him double wages. Maybe PL deserves gratitude for using common sense

Oh and while we’re on the subject. Thanks RD for realising Leigh’s potential.

    COYBIG today.

A wee aside before I move to ‘footie matters’ , Thank God I can skip all this ‘banging music ‘ on here unlike bygone days when it was belting out doon my stairs ! ! Anyway, would not have NL back as I remember he went for meaningless targets ie most goals shutouts points maybe even corners when he should have been blooding the young players after the league was won well in advance. Mind you might have been preparing a CV ! !

  16. The No.13 Shorts on

Hail Hail Ronny. I loved your vision. It gave me hope. Now i despair. You’re well shot of it. Your ideas were simply too refined for the work-shy fopppish, Monster Munch eating, Old Firmist, 4-4-2, ten-in-a-row-at-all-cost brigade. I loved you. And still do.

  19. SydneyTim says sack Lawell now on

Saw a comment earlier about why the board did not act sooner with the Rd shambles

Some people think there is a Celtic board. Lol. There is only Peter Lawell although DD might change that

Why would PL sack his project a decision made by him that so far has lost our club 40m in CL money , plus about 10,000 fans

It’s all about Peter Lawell bhoys. His face. At present rumours are he is looking for one big fat paycheck to walk away from his shambles
