Form vagaries of Malmo for Celtic

793

Celtic will play Malmo in the Champions League play-off round, the third time since 2012 they will face champions from Sweden. The main concern for Ronny Deila is the manner in which Malmo disposed of Salzburg 3-0 on Wednesday night, but there is context to put that into. In the previous round the Swedes only managed a 0-0 at home to Lithuanians Zalgiris Vilnius, before winning 0-1 away.

Those three goals against Salzburg, which arrived inside 45 minutes, will be the subject of a lot of research over the next few days.

In 2013 Celtic struggled to blow away the cobwebs against Elfsborg, recording a 1-0 home win and a 0-0 draw away. A year earlier they beat Helsingborgs 2-0 home and away.

The most encouraging aspect for Ronny will be Malmo’s domestic form. They are current 6th in the Allsvenskan after 18 games and will struggle to qualify for Europe next season. A home game against league leaders Gothenburg on Sunday will be Celtic’s most important reconnaissance exercise.

Oh, and put out the flags, Malmo play on grass!!

Think the Malmo draw is fine for us. The fact that some are worried shows the need for us to bring up standards on the Park and build confidence within the support.

You only have to look at the other half of the draw to see the reality of Champions League Qualification. Some very good teams will go out of the Competition at this stage, even tougher ones await those who qualify, at the group stages.

We shouldn’t take Malmo for granted but we need some perspective.

I believe Ronny knows what he is doing, sometimes this Celtic side make frustrating watching, but Ronny wants to make the Celtic side a good defensive unit. IMO Any flair and striking prowess takes a hit because of this.

Mourinho made his reputation by building teams that were very difficult to beat. Think Ronny is doing the same. Of course Mourinho can depend on world class play makers and forwards who can make a difference. Our squad is obviously lacking that quality.

But in time we’ll get there, the system ensures we concede few, this is key in European Football.

As Malmo will no doubt find out.

It is ridiculous that the Champions of all European Leagues are not automatically in the , well, Champions League.

Instead, we get teams from all over the place who are not Champions but are in the bloody thing and the champions have to play up to three pre-qualifiers. This is nonsense and needs to be addressed like now man!

Are the powers that be frightened that some minnow from Malta or the likes might win the bloody thing.

This is factually incorrect. Llambias & Leach were only in charge for a matter of months. In that short period they secured a £10m loan, The actual cost of doing so was 26% of profits from Rangers Retail, which on the £10m capital sum is 2.16% interest. Compare this to the Letham facility at 15%. £5m would have been released when the Sports Scotland warranty had been accommodated. as per the due diligence clause in the agreement. When King’s concert party attempted to wrest control from the board elected by a clear majority of shareholders at the December AGM, they only offered £6.5m and made no provision for the loan from MASH of £3m. It was a cheap offer from an underfunded consortium, who in the final analysis only provided £4.5m. They reneged on the £5m SD loan.

As for giving the new board time, how long would you give them? Paul Murray has answered your question. A minimum of seven years, Seven years of a six figure salary and unlimited expense account for our vice-chairman. Seven years of a six figure salary for John Gilligan who adds nothing to the current board other than his nodding dog vote on everything cooked up by King and Murray.

In five months, this new board have failed spectacularly on each and every key performance indicator. No expense has been spared when Murray, accompanied by his wife, engaged in a 5 star vacation to California, on the pretext of raising much needed funds from well-heeled North American Rangers supporters. Murray raised little more than a round of applause. Murray, accompanied by Gilligan, attempted to convince Ashley’s advisers to provide the second tranche of £5m. They failed. An attempt was made to contact Sarver. His office refused Murray’s request for a meeting.

At this point it get’s interesting. There are reports that King missed out on the June EGM to meet up with Ashley in London. King was apparently engaged on company business. If this meeting had taken place, the venue would have been SD’s PR firm, Powerscourt, in Tudor Street, London. However the source of this story is PMG. Of course being PMG he added his own spin that Bill will not allow me to repeat.

Has anyone paused for a moment to contemplate the possibility that this meeting did not take place? Could it not be a construct of PMG’s fevered agenda driven imagination? Richard Gough, who flew in to pitch ST sales at our expense, made an oblique reference to an MA/King meeting last week. Would King fly to London, at our expense, and not take advantage of an opportunity to pitch the ST sales to his compliant fully paid up Herald Group hacks? What Gough was implying was that King and Murray are leaving no stone unturned to restore the finances of Rangers. Good try Richard but no cigar.

The Ashley communique prior to his requested EGM highlighted the problems of an unlisted stock that is free from the constraints and transparency required by an exchange. Ashley pointed out that this is exacerbated by having a chairman whose criminal convictions are a matter of public record. Ashley took his gloves off with this attack on King. Would someone as arrogant as King accept this public dressing down and still be willing to meet with Ashley in the forlorn hope of raising the second tranche of £5m? He could have just as easily engaged in a spa at The Shangri La hotel, at The Shard, prior to his flight to Johannesburg.

The shyster board did their best to control the EGM. They even gave the SOS’ convicted drug dealer, Sandy Chugg, an opportunity to ask a pro-board question. However what was revealed was their incompetence in their failed attempts to relist on LSE AIM and a botched attempt at an ISDX listing.

The resignation of WH Ireland was King’s doing. King’s criminal reputation preceded him. They moved quickly to distance themselves from a notorious white collar criminal.

However, those who run the RST & Rangers First don’t care that the current board are a study in incompetence. The former, with their 8.59% of the issued share capital think that they are important. They will back King, irrespective of his lies and broken promises in the hope of an NED blazer. Their self-interest is a mirror image of Paul Murray’s.

Rangers First, made a recent purchase of shares via Peterhouse/JP Jenkins. A cynic might suggest that they did so on the instructions of the board. This organisation is openly touting for Sandy Easdale’s shares, with a low bowl offer of 23-27p.

The shyster board are going after the Easdale proxy, taking away 10.43% of opposing voting rights.

It’s a naked power grab with the RF and RST working in parallel to serve the interests of King.

King’s rationale for stripping voting rights from the Easadale proxy is a masterclass in hypocrisy. Apparently there is a lack of transparency in who owns the interests in RIFC. What about your own investment vehicle Mr King? Who are the beneficiaries of the Oasis trust? Are the beneficiaries the New Oasis trust? Who are these beneficiaries and where is this trust domiciled? Are there any loan warranties on this trust conferring power to a third party in another ‘tax-efficient’ domicile? Is your mother, aka Mrs N, a beneficiary?

Richard Gough stated the new board are quietly going about their business. King states that we should focus on the team on the park.

Meanwhile the biggest spiv who has ever darkened our door is carving up Rangers.

As he does so, he is not facing any opprobrium from the press. Those who could not be bought off by Level 5 have been banned.

He is not facing any questions from our self-serving blazer seeking co-ops. Craig & Sandy are singing from the criminal’s hymn sheet.

Meanwhile the company is running on fumes and is £5m shy of short term solvency. The decision to renege on the £5m loan will have devastating consequences. The auditor will have to be even more creative than our resident fake CA, Dave King. Then there is the thorny issue of an ISDX listing. Did the recent purchase of shares via Peterhouse/JP Jenkins provide the fees to justify an attempt to gain a listing for an organisation with a convicted criminal as its chairman? Forty-two counts of tax evasion would preclude anyone from taking office of any UK listed company. How do Peterhouse/JP Jenkins intend to circumvent this problem ?

These are the questions that should be being asked.

  20. Perhaps it’s time the Champions League tag was dropped and renamed the Europe League which would be more appropriate. The public are no fools, this is not. League of champions.

  21. Hi: Not a fan of the new setup. It was so brilliant in its simplicity – now its visually polluted and not as intuitive. There is a good reason google maintained its simple search engine page — it worked. Also, the new set up is hard to access on a mobile device. One click before – now at least 4 or 5 clicks to get to the current discussion which in itself is hard to locate. Down with this sort of thing!
