From a green jumper to a season ticket

924

It’s one of those obscure football facts which appears more likely to be an urban myth, but when he jogs out onto Celtic Park on Sunday the proof will be there for all to see: Chelsea captain John Terry is a Celtic fan.  I’ve heard many wide ranging reasons why people become attached to the club, not everyone was born into it as an accident of paternal heritage, some of us made our own way there.

I know one Ulsterman, from the loyalist tradition, who has lived in Scotland for decades, and, along with his friends, is a Celtic supporter.  One season ticket holder told me he started shouting for Celtic as an infant, to tease his Rangers supporting father, but one day the teasing developed into the acquisition of a green jumper, an unusual occurrence in the family home.  A bridge had been crossed, soon posters were on the bedroom wall, a Celtic Subbutteo team was bought and after a few years, a Celtic top made its appearance.

There are hundreds, possibly thousands, of great stories like these.

Sunday’s #19 Legenda’ game will be a chance for some of us to reminisce about the days when Pierre, Lubo, Jorge, Bobo, Tommy Boyd, the man himself, Stiliyan Petrov and, of course, the Swede, graced Celtic Park every week.  It will be a rare chance to see Martin O’Neill on the on the touchline, perhaps without bouncing up and down.  Well done to Carlos Cuellar for pitching up, even if he has to play the inevitable pantomime villain.

Monies raised will go towards Stiliyan’s Foundation and to stock a food bank, which will open in Glasgow this month with the aim of alleviating food poverty. Which takes us back to where we started.

Enjoy your day.

To buy a ticket and not to go, to deprive another Celtic Supporter (possibly of lesser means) the opportunity of seeing the game and Supporting his/her team by his/her presence… would it be unfair to label such a stance as… spiteful?

    —-

It’s a protest -one you disagree with, which is fair enough.

    but spiteful… Surely not?

Not every Celtic Supporter can afford a season ticket, so if a Celtic Supporter deliberately buys a preferential ticket with the intent of not going to the game just so his seat can remain empty in protest, knowing that there is a market demand for the ticket from a less affluent Celtic Supporting demographic, and yet won’t put his ticket up for sale for face value, I’d view that as spiteful.

If he/she doesn’t want to see the game, then don’t buy a ticket. Don’t deprive others their pleasure for the sake of prejudice, because always remember, Rangers are dead,

this is a new club we are talking about called The Rangers. What have The Rangers ever done to us that we would wish to protest against?

By not buying ones seat for cup games… one diminishes ones chances for away tickets or later rounds

It’s all a front from the Zombies. Of all the former Huns I know – two of them have openly accepted the truth and follow the juniors now.

The rest of them don’t ever talk about football in my company – which suits me to be honest. But they know they can’t get away with the pretence when you are with them.

Zombie bloggers have hilariously tried to rewrite history, but they refuse to go on certain radio shows with people like Jim Spence and Stuart Cosgrove – because they know their lies will be exposed by people much brighter than they are.

The tickets for this putative game.

    Celtic will print them.

And their name won’t appear as ‘The Rangers’.

I won’t be going, and part of the reason I won’t be going is the craven, pusillanimous way the board have handled the situation.

It’s a protest – I reserve my right to make my statement -disagree away, that is your choice.

anyway we both know sevco will get papped oot in one of the early rounds played when there are still leaves on the trees….Celtic join the draw much later when all the chaff is swept away..hehehe.

btw – I don’t buy your papers or listen to your radio progs either- in protest ;-)
