It’s one of those obscure football facts which appears more likely to be an urban myth, but when he jogs out onto Celtic Park on Sunday the proof will be there for all to see: Chelsea captain John Terry is a Celtic fan. I’ve heard many wide ranging reasons why people become attached to the club, not everyone was born into it as an accident of paternal heritage, some of us made our own way there.
I know one Ulsterman, from the loyalist tradition, who has lived in Scotland for decades, and, along with his friends, is a Celtic supporter. One season ticket holder told me he started shouting for Celtic as an infant, to tease his Rangers supporting father, but one day the teasing developed into the acquisition of a green jumper, an unusual occurrence in the family home. A bridge had been crossed, soon posters were on the bedroom wall, a Celtic Subbutteo team was bought and after a few years, a Celtic top made its appearance.
There are hundreds, possibly thousands, of great stories like these.
Sunday’s #19 Legenda’ game will be a chance for some of us to reminisce about the days when Pierre, Lubo, Jorge, Bobo, Tommy Boyd, the man himself, Stiliyan Petrov and, of course, the Swede, graced Celtic Park every week. It will be a rare chance to see Martin O’Neill on the on the touchline, perhaps without bouncing up and down. Well done to Carlos Cuellar for pitching up, even if he has to play the inevitable pantomime villain.
Monies raised will go towards Stiliyan’s Foundation and to stock a food bank, which will open in Glasgow this month with the aim of alleviating food poverty. Which takes us back to where we started.
Enjoy your day.

Looking forward to tomorrow as much as any big game I have ever been at, a special Celtic day indeed. Am taking my 8 year old daughter for the first time, she has never shown much interest and may not go back for a long time but it will be a great first Celtic game and occasion for her. Will beat mine which was in 1971 in a certain league cup final – ouch.
Never looked back though and many great days since then – hail hail.

If Celtic were drawn at home against The Rangers in a cup game this season, do you think the Parkhead would be full?
—–
Ah …The $6m question or …approx £2m in practical terms…
As a season ticket holder plus 1 for daughter I wouldn’t go – we are on automatic cup ticket scheme
I know many season ticket holders who wouldn’t go for reasons of principle who are also on that scheme.
I would hope that those seats would lie empty as a protest statement.
Soooo technically – the ground would not be full for that reason.
However, I accept that there will be many Celts who will go, expect they fall into 3 main categories (there may be more …)
1. Never miss a Celtic game regardless of opponents
2. Object in principle but not want a Celtic team to be unsupported against the bile and danger/risk to safety of players and staff ( might be two distinct reasons…)
3. Old Firm tourists – never been and lifetime ambition to experience the atmosphere.
As I said – technically not a full house if guys like me have bought tickets but refuse to go and don’t give my tickets to eejits and tourists- i would hope to see thousands of empty seats.
That might qualify as a sell-out tho’
I expect to see a load of empty seats if it were to happen.
Anticipating a follow up question- if match were at ipox? expect full Celtic allocation of tickets purchased for reasons 1,2& 3 above.

You didn’t accommodate those who just love to see the Tic gub the huns. I’d personally think that that is the majority of Tims. The auld ‘grey brigade’ might stay away on principle but I’m sure there would be many who’d take their place, if the auld ‘grey brigade’ held their principles close but accommodated the principles of others.
Now if it was a league cup game, bearing in mind our record of crowds in that competition, would a game against the Hun attract more then the average for previous years? What would the crowd be if it was a cup final. What would the crowd be I fit was let’s say an under 17’s game played at Firhill?
sltires en sevilla,
I wouldn’t take my seat for such a game at Celtic Park. Wouldn’t dream of entering their den of iniquity.

‘When are the bbc going to take the advice of their legal dept re this oldco/newco nonsense
Legally the matter is very straight forward ….
The notion that RFC persists in some form of floating ethereal suspensive condition capable of attaching and reattaching to a succession of holding companies is risible and an affront to common sense
Read the five way agreement ya bangers
And bbc …man up and chase these idiots’
#####
The problem isn’t really the BBC, it’s the BBC Trust.
The BBC argued their case but the Trust upheld the complaint.
The Trust didn’t engage with the argument about legal concepts, they just hid behind LNS’s ‘judgement’.
In turn LNS’s reasoning was that the football authorities regarded them as the same club. As did Duff and Phelps and BDO. And the SFA and SPL rules could be construed as meaning the club could be a separate entity.
The truth is that the SFA, the SPL D&P and BDO all had their own agendas and it suited them all to maintain the fiction. And the SFA and SPL rules were sloppy enough to be twisted whichever way was necessary.
The fundamental problem though was the nature of the process. Its was an inquisitorial rather than adversarial ie it was up to LNS to look at the question as he saw fit, rather than having two or more sides arguing their viewpoint before him.
LNS is the quintessential establishment man, fiercely intelligent and to be relied upon to use his abilities to come to the conclusion that’s expected of him.
Just like the Magic Circle.
If you want a whitewash, he’s your man.
It was a different matter though when the process was adversarial ie when the players argued that they could walk away when the old club, their employer, died. Big hands bumped his gums at the time that he was going to sue them. That he had a solid case. He didn’t sue.
Jabba was right.
Walter was right.
It’s a new club.
