Gerrymandering SPL with flawed resolutions

661

Resolutions to be voted on at the 30 April meeting are proposals from the Scottish Premier League executive (Neil Doncaster).  They have nothing to do with the Gang of 10 nor are they a Duff and Phelps/Rangers conspiracy.  The resolutions are not set in tablets of stone and have no authority in their own right.  The League has form in voting down executive resolutions, in particular overthrowing plans for a 10 team league last year, so, in theory, the votes could go for or against.

Neil Doncaster, being as thorough as he is, has almost certainly shared his plan with the man along the corridor at Hamden, SFA chief exec, Stewart Regan.  He is also likely to have taken guidance from the Uefa executive, specifically CEO David Taylor, formerly of this parish.  It would be unnecessarily lax to leave legislative loose ends before embarking on such a radical plan, so forget about any intervention by the SFA (cough) or Uefa.

Putting preconceived notions aside (if I can), the resolutions are flawed.

Asking for 8 clubs to vote for a Newco to be allowed into the league, but requiring 11 to vote for a financial penalty to be imposed for an Insolvency Transfer, is beyond ridiculous.  The former provision – the gift of continuity to a defaulter – is easy to achieve.  The latter – the punishment for defaulting – is unnecessarily difficult.  Duff and Phelps will need the support of only one club – let’s say Dunfermline, who are brogue-to-brogue with them anyway and due to relegation will not be affected by the financial penalty, will vote with them.  Why would Doncaster put such a high bar on setting financial penalties?

Arbitrary voting thresholds smack of gerrymandering. Can anyone explain this in any other way?

There will now be a period of debate between clubs; Celtic will oppose any provision for a Newco to enter the league.  Duff and Phelps will be in the opposite corner.  You can expect to hear wailing and gnashing from Rangers (IA) along the same ridiculous lines they have used ahead of the SFA hearings into the behaviour of the club in advance of, and after, Craig Whyte’s purchase of the club.  On that occasion, Duff and Phelps argued that the actions of Rangers’ new owner, or the failure of the old board to conduct their business correctly, should not lead to a penalty on the club.

It doesn’t matter how lax or severe the proposed penalties, Duff and Phelps will oppose them.  Anything lessening of the penalty is worth money to the proposed new buyers of Rangers, so let’s view everything Duff and Phelps say in pound notes.

Rangers have unpaid bills potentially running up to £134mm that’s medicine, operations, road repairs and Help for Heroes.  Allowing them to ditch their history and start afresh, where owners profit by securing a floating charge over the stadium, where fans can continue to be provided with a team in the league, creates an unprecedented moral hazard.  It rewards irresponsibility and would create a queue of clubs ready to do the same.

And on the point of ditching their history… I openly mock anyone who uses phrases like Hybrid Liquidation.  You don’t get Hybrid Liquidation, Partial Liquidation or Liquidation Lite.  You cannot buy or sell history, as Duff and Phelps tried (and failed, I think) to convince Rangers fans.  Liquidation would mean Rangers Football Club, established in 1873 (or 1872 as they now claim), incorporated in 1899, is finished.

Just pay your bills and do us all a favour.

So what exactly have you done other than map your large intestine for future generations to know exactly were your head was at?

Oh wait. I know! Too much already.

You posted first on new article saying

    “No To Newco”

Job done. That’s it all sorted.

HT – I sat in on 2 of the 3 open meetings, before Celtic orchestrated them, and listened to a good few Bhoys term it as their day out and they were not prepared to give it up. Heyzeus &Yoda the almighty. What other option is there open to the support other than a boycott. I’d start with the Scottish Cup Final myself. A full boycott of that would be a fair old statement by the Celtic support (obviously if we get there).

    no for me

making a move as suggested shows we are accepting responsibility for our own destiny, we are no longer happy being mugged.

victim mentality does not cut it for me I’m afraid, it appears it suits plenty though.

The ‘Why should we be punished’ argument makes no sense, we have always been punished and cheated, there is an opportunity to do something about it and a considerable proportion are suffering stockholm syndrome.

MWD – we do have a conduit here to provide feedback to the club.

I agree with you about refusing to play the “entity” and just taking the points hit and feck Rupert and Sky.

Unfortunately, our board will not do anything to upset Sky because they want to try and maintain our profile outwith Scotland, for obvious reasons, but we could do that by better performances in Europe.

Cancel Sky and ESPN….Saturday 3pm kick-offs woo hoo!

Is this the latest ‘make yourself feel better about being shafted’ nonsense.

We did nothing for 130years when this and that was occurring?

You say we did nothing at time of “Dougie Dougie”. You are correct but at the time you also said we should do nothing as there is nothing in your opinion that we can do.

It’s time for the Celtic support to grow some balls or again take their heids out of their arse, turn round, bend over and let the Rangers shaft us all just one more time. Well at least, until the next time.

    How’s that small intestine looking?

  9. OG Rafferty,

Not quite yet, don’t interrupt the SPL while they are making their mistakes.

On Bob Kelly, what would he do? Divide and conquer. He would withdraw Celtic from the Scottish Cup until further notice and force the SFA to feel the financial impact of the SPL actions.

I would also support a mass “strike” of this year’s Scottish Cup Final (if we get there) and refuse tickets for the match. The Celtic support have a role to play, as do the club. Show the game on the big screens – it’s on the BBC. This will make news around the world and have the right people asking “why?”.

  10. Exiled Tim

I think you’ll find that these proposals were passed when the Celtic rep was at the toilet due to not paying enough attention to his small intestine.

  11. Surely everyone with half a brain can see Duff & Duffer are expressing mock outrage here.

    They probably wrote the proposals.

The media are onside too, inside they are both delighted that stage 1 is complete.

  12. The sport in this country has always been rigged for well over a hun dread years and I knew that after watching the hoops for about 1 season when I had just reached double figures. All you have to do is look back a couple of weeks to the Cha’s sending off, then Big Vic’s sending off, media telling us that it was technically correct.

If you believe we have been playing on a level playing field you are deluded. The SFA/SPL are corrupt to the core, MIB are corrupt to the core, UEFA and FIFA the same. WE have always known this have we not. All they are doing now is changing the rules to allow for more corruption. The only thing we have left now is honour. The rest of world football can go and cheat and rule change and be as corrupt as they want to be but when I die I will be proud to say that I supported the Celtic.

Ok if I’m honest I think you make a fair point. I may get shot for this but I don’t actually see CQN as an accurate representation of the Celtic support in its entirety, definitely not the guys who go week in and week out.

I’ve spoken to a number of people about the current financial plight of the huns and what would be their reaction to a hun newco being readmitted straight into the SPL.

I have yet to meet a single person who would stop going to watch Celtic. I think you’re correct, there are some who see it as a day on the booze with their mates away from the missus and the weans, and there is nothing wrong with that. But trying to persuade all of the support to get up off there arses and do something about these new developments aint going to be easy.

  14. As a young bhoy I loved going to the away games.

Dozens of years of unbroken support.

I was there to support the Celtic.

When it came to Boycott that Kilmarnock game in 94 , I understood why.

I wish the bhoys today would get wise, STRIKE once (thanks who ever posted that earlier) and give us back an advantage.

Rangers team still intact and also likely to be playing in next season’s SPL, debt-free and with all their history preserved. Just a measly 10 point deduction and all charges against them

Canamalar – your plan just isn’t practical and would tie us up in court cases for years. What kind of team would we be putting out on the park, do you honestly think we could hold on to this exciting young squad?!

MWD or should I say Henry Root, if you couldn’t get the main supporter bodies interested, then what’s your big plan now? The online campaign from Phil/RTC/PMcC, sites and blogs like this and now Alex Thomson have helped to expose a lot of things that others have tried to cover up.

  26. HT

I always expected that you would do what would be in the best interests of Celtic boycott or not.

My support of my club will be determined by the actions of Peter Lawell now. If all we get are some fine words strongly branded then for me that will not be enough and I’ll be away learning to Après Ski for a few years until Dermott Desmond and Peter Lawell vacate the premises. Let’s face it Peter does as Dezzy says.

However. If Celtic put up a determined fight against Newco entry whether it be legal, refusing to recognise Newco or some other method then I will attend as I do.

I do though have a suspicion they are part of the stitch up. Time will tell.

Couple of key phrases stick out there.

“governance with integrity” & “change is also intimidating”.

The 1st is right out of the windae is if as you say he (Doncaster) is on a performance related pay structure & bonus system. WTF? He is supposed to be (IMO) a holder of high office who is paid well for his services. Bonus etc…wrong, integrity can then be bought by interested parties if there is no proper governance.

Change is intimidating. I should know. I tell people who have been getting a `wage’ off the state since the days of Maggie that they are actually well enough to work now. They will fight you tooth and nail. Onto our subject again, there are too many people with too many fingers in too many pies who have been freeloading all their miserable lives. They then have the gall to attack those who seek change and do everything in their power to preserve the status quo. When this is challenged they change the rules.

Paul McBride (RIP) showed the football authorities that they have to be accountable and understand their own rules, never mind how to apply them. He started the last bout and won. We must continue to fight this one.
