Government allows drinkers into pubs as football fans wait

548

Yesterday we learned that the Scottish Government hoped to authorise socially distanced outdoor events from 23 July.  Reports today suggest the club “plan” to have 30,000 fans at games by August.

Before that happens, the virus must continue on its current trajectory, the social ‘distance’ must reduce from 2m and the Government needs to give the green light.

When we are back at football, it will feel more like an airport experience, with temperature checks, travel flow guidelines, sanitise stations, masks and the kind of distancing rules that will make the prohibition on horizontal movement look like a swearing ban.

I don’t think there is much sympathy from the politicians for football’s position – they have more important things to worry about, but what Celtic and the SRU in particular have assured, is that football can be as safe, if not safer, than most other outdoor activities, and safer than all social indoor ones.  When the Government allows drinkers into pubs and beer gardens, they will find it difficult to revert to their usual antagonistic approach to football fans.

Still nothing from Celtic on any of this, which is right.  Under-promise when you cannot control events.  And no one is campaigning for a return, wait until we are safe and be fair.

    Auldeid, get a feckin’ life.

I’m 6k plus on the waiting list and happy to buy two full price season tickets even though my boy is only 11.

I’ll be very surprised if we get filled.

    =============

I’m sorry but I don’t know what I said that provoked such a reaction.

In the days before I became aware of the duplicity at play, I came up with the idea of an Overseas Season Ticket at ST concessionary price (I was over 65) that cost me more than a Celtic TV subscription, but let someone take my seat who otherwise could not afford to attend.

I’d watched Celtic for years being cheated and was encouraged by our CEO to think that if it could be proved, Celtic would act to stop it.

When they didn’t, I stopped purchasing on the basis that whilst the cheating might continue, at least I wasn’t paying to watch it .

I am very grateful to ST purchasers, indeed have posted often on a greater sharing of the load of supporting that falls on them, and know that without them, I and others who cannot attend, can still have a game to watch, so its obviously in my own interest that STs are renewed, so thank you.

Thanks. I do get that and as I stated previously am grateful for it and think that the least you deserve is to pay to watch a game that is bound by rules that are enforced when they are broken year on year by incorrigible rivals.

Perhaps my mistake was thinking that was important.

I loved Mo the player … the game at Love Street was total football … I still think Mo won us the 1989 cup final, the week before funnily enough we were at Love Street and Mo was in the “stand” after we thought we had signed him.. the following weekend we were buzzing … I wish I could find my “Super Mo” scarf that I bought at Hampden .. would be a collectors item :-)

I always knew deep down we would get nothing from our board , we discussed it many times in person and I’m afraid my opinions proved correct in where it would end up for you

  6. BT 9.53pm

Dint disagree with that either … but the young team really want a team in blue to pump … AND I think the games against them are a selling point to professional footballers like Henrik, Moussa & Odsonne … for me they are a necessary evil … (just my opinion :-)

I want Celtic to succeed … and Tin hat on again, we are better when we have a rival that brings nearly every single Celtic fan together … If you don’t mind me asking, does your old man share your views on the Huns ? Serious question would be good to know how an actual Celtic player thinks about the Huns/Sevs

  7. I would be at peace if we never ever played Sevco again. I have hardly been at a game against them, since we beat them with a beauty by Paul McStay and another by that wee nyaff, Walker, at Ibrox. I hate what their hatred makes me feel. I also detest what our Board have failed to do as regards Res 12 but I have still renewed.

  8. I love games against the Huns

Friends who I don’t always meet up with get in contact for these games

In fact Weet Weet Weet from these pages met up with me as a stranger for a few of these games … for me I try and take the positive out of these games, leave the hatred to bigots … I think there are plenty of decent people on both sides to make sure the bigots don’t win .. … ask yourself this … when the seasons fixtures are announced at the end of next week what is the first fixture you look for ??? Remember no lying :-)

He detests the fact that MSM and fans treat them as if they where same club and is concerned about their income flow and how they are more rancid as a support than ever as we can all see throughout Scotland and the UK in general with their right wing behaviour

The myth of Rangers being the same club is a worry As the Orcs are in full battle mode and it’s a scary scenario we are looking at

He is concerned for the safety of his grandkids who he takes to away matches , M being the youngest at 29

Totally get that … my own mother hated the weekend of these games, personally I think it’s a lot better but all it needs is one idiot …

The Huns cheated and liquidated I know it, you know it and the Huns actually know it … the matter what they try and say

It should always just be Celtic for us

  12. Adidas have played a blinder with all our kits this coming season. I suspect we’ll see record sales.

We look to have 10K on a waiting list for season books so hopefully that side of things go well too, can’t wait for the season to start.

cant disagree with most of that

i was in the enclosure that day getting bovrils launched down on me from the hunnery above

but the point is we all need a rival

so if sevco went bust i wuld laugh like hell

but then look for the next rival, who would be a team with rangers in their name and playing out of ibrox

    with the same rabid support

  16. Nobody tell Brendan Rodgers it was the promotion of Sevco that opened the Lisbon lions stand again, he genuinely thinks it was him.

  17. I attended Ibrox twice in my life 4-1 & 5-1 … Macca scored first in one game and Chris Morris scored first in the other game …. 1988/89 wasn’t the best season but we were all on cloud 9 fae the Centenary season … I know everybody loves the Invincible season but the Centenary season is something that not one of us will ever witness again

A very powerful and eloquent post. In the last few months, you and I have cordially disagreed on the merits of forgiveness.

I maintain now is not the time for any acts of atonement. Football clubs are struggling, and we are no different. We need unity and it’s heartening that only 8% of our ST holders have stated that they will not renew.

Do you not think our enemies would be heartened by any such self inflicted act. ? They will interpret any admissions or requests for forgiveness as a weakness: Our achilies heel if you like. And they would be right.

It would not stop there, they would smell blood and go for the jugular. Historical events, even by association are currently trending and acts of forgiveness would fall on deaf ears.

Appeasement or calls for forgiveness are especially dangerous in this current climate.

I reiterate, although I don’t disagree with your sentiments and i thank the four of you for your tenacity and persistence , now is not the time.

Many thanks, best regs and HH.

    ======================

Atonement means unity and forgiveness is not appeasement, which is why we differ. The atonement will bring the Celtic support together and our forgiveness of why they did not seek full football justice is necessary to encourage them to come clean

Apart from that , its not a self inflicted act.

Admitting to the support that the only reason that Rangers received no sporting sanction for ten years of cheating, is down to Celtic’s reluctance to challenge a Decision itself based on falsehood that legitimised the use of ebts and so trophy retention.

Can you see the media going to town on that which and exposing what really took place and how Rangers defrauded Scottish football and taxpayers for ten years?

The last thing they will want to hear is Celtic telling a truth they already know, about the behavior of Rangers under Sir David Murray, and if the media stick to form, the last thing they would do is publish what they already know and have refused to touch at any point which is that everything won by Rangers during the ebt era was won by deception, just as the grant of the UEFA licence was in 2011. the LAST thing football wants is the degree of deception to be acknowledged by Celtic.

On forgiveness, I’ve studied it, tried to apply it and experienced the benefits of doing so.

Your experience suggests different in that you have either never tried it or got no benefit from it, which is why we differ.

You say now is not the time for either atonement or forgiveness. I say we live in a world crying out for it and it saddens me to hear what is basically a core Christian message be dismissed.

Finally I never meant do not renew, I said tell them you are but not to take your love for granted.

  19. The three new kits are stunning 😍

    Really? Very interesting

    I hoped they would go:

    Home kit – Traditional

    Away kit – Retro 80’s

    Third kit – Modern cool

And that’s exactly what they have done

    Auldheid.

Your essays and lay out of the scale of cheating in our game are there for the historical record,it’s not banter.its cheating.Mr Black knew.Murray obliterated their identity. It is now questionable and always is for the rest of time.HM ending them hurts them.

Your writings along with others are as important and vital part our Clubs history as the plc’s reaction to res12.Take heart.no majority shareholder owns the Celtic identity.it is free and from the heart.History is on our side.only more will come out in years to come about people like Murray. It will only reflect on our media and Scottish ‘bisniss’,how impotent they are.

Every Celtic fans knows bout the self harming path to Liquidation and the new club/co coming out of it.it is a social, economic and political reflection on how things operate in this country,

Reading back and seeing your hopes that it is not too late for the plc to address a number of issues, have you or did you read the article recently on etims which said the uefa have taken an interest in res12 , just wondering if you are aware of that, apparently eyes have seen it and it is being discussed within uefa?

I’ll tell you what this comment actually means

“We need unity and it’s heartening that only 8% of our ST holders have stated that they will not renew.”

That out there in the real world 8% of the support can’t afford to renew their ST. If the extension date was not moved to 30 th June I would be one of them!

  30. itscalledthemalvinas on

Have I read this right ?

Celtic &sevco have both been invited to a pre season tournament in Lyon next month with PSG and Nice.

French authorities have sanctioned that 5 thousand fans will be allowed into each game. But it’s ok because no tickets will be made available to the teams that come from Glasgow.

Maybe the mayor of Lyon should maybe have another look at this !

  31. the bbc website football page today highlights the most controversial incident in f.a cup history.

sheffield united kicked the ball out of play so one of their players could be treated for an injury. on restarting arsenal, rather than giving the ball backed to sheffield united as was the custom, broke up the field and scored what turned out to be the winning goal.

immediately after the game the arsenal manager offered to replay the game. the f.a accepted his offer but stated that it would need to go to fifa for approval. fifa then asked football associations all over the world for their opinions and approval.

only 2 football associations opposed this offer to replay the game.

    can you name them?
