You’ve got to love John Hartson, a subscriber to the ‘All we need is three new players’ belief structure. This is a common sort of anti-analysis which crops up regularly in place of any actual thought.
There are three outfield areas of a team, defence, midfield and attack, and if you can only improve each area, you’ll have a better team. Go figure. Hartson told us we need “a central defender; a creative midfield player and a striker”. It’s as though the reality hasn’t occurred that any team in the world wouldn’t improve with the addition of a better player in each area of the field.
Yes, we need a central defender, but we need a right back too. We need a striker, but, I could argue two strikers would be handy. I’ve no idea how Brendan Rodgers is planning to play tactically so we might need a midfielder. Or two.
Pretty much every team in Europe will be having the same conversation right now. John could usefully reflect that it’s not actual headcount we need, we have the numbers, it’s players able to improve the team we need. That’s the magic ingredient everyone in the game hopes for.
Lincoln Red Imps captain, Roy Chipolina, is well within his rights to talk up their chances of knocking Celtic out of the Champions League. They hold the lead and it will take three goals to settle nerves among the home support tomorrow. It could be a tense occasion…….

Tomorrow night we are going to be facing a robust team who will be very defensive. Recently we have struggled in similar circumstances. This will not be easy.

Looking forward to a real game in July at Celtic Park. Sleep in peace Celts, we’ll be there tomorrow.

I apologise for late reply, wife dragged me out of pub.
The defeat by Lincoln Red Imps was a shock but we also hit the bar twice etc, in sport sometimes the wee club slays the giant.
If every game was decided on player cost or wage bill we would be an unbeatable force in Scotland but a non entity in Europe. Thankfully games are played on grass not paper. We beat an imperious Barcelona team when we had no business doing it.
If every game was pre ordained then it would be a rangers match.
So who we playing in next round ?
My bet tomorrow will be Celtic -4 at 3/1,
an early goal tomorrow and we could score any amount
Sorry
That should have been a The rangers match.
Copious apologies

Cannot believe that some on here either think that we are up against it tomorrow night!
If we do not take at least six off this bunch of part timers, knowing that CL qualification is at stake, then more heads should roll.
Last week was embarrassing in the extreme, failure to see off this mob at CP. , would be unforgivable!

Sitting in my local and the barman has his Wolfe Tones cd on and I am giving it socks, quietly including the sash, but I sense the locals are uncomfortable with the tunes hehe.

Must admit I would prefer it if Little Englander stayed in Europe with the rest of us.

The joke was in Lurgan that the fenian kids learned the first two verses of the sash in case they got stopped by hun paramilitarys and we’re asked to prove they weren’t tims, because the huns only knew the first verse and hummed the rest. ;-)

Owen…..
Yes, the defeat against Lincoln can be described as a one-off.
However, the poor performances in Europe over the last few years against teams with inferior budgets can no longer be called “one-off”.
A club our size is clearly punching below its weight.

We have beaten Barcelona, Spartak Moscow. We have drawn with Ajax, Fenerbahce and others.
Neil Lennon’s Celtic failed big time in Amsterdam but Ronny Deila’s Celtic draw and he is a disaster, go figure.
Burnley78 @ 10:39…
If we (and Astana) progress I think the tie will be played on Wednesday however it has not been confirmed.
I was in Astana when we played Karagandy there in 2013 and our route was Glasgow to London to Kiev to Astana arriving in the early hours (02:00). We took the same route back leaving early in the morning (06:00).
The advantage this time is that no visa is required for travel to Kazakhstan as was the case in 2013 – and at very short notice.
Since 2014 (I think) Air Astana now fly directly from London to Astana.
There are various other indirect routes but the journey times are seriously long with 1 and sometimes 2 stopovers.
I am hoping (probably in vain) for a Vilnius win or score draw !

Celtic have a turnover of about £60 – £70m on average.
EPL clubs get £85m for appearing.
So go on tell me it is a level playing field.
But hey it’s all Peter Lawwell’s fault.
