  1. It has been a great start to the season.

The run of league wins has ended but we got an away draw at a venue that has been tough for us in the past few years.

I would be more concerned if there had been a palpable loss of form or a drop-off in effort but I saw none of that. Yes, we were not on top form but we combatted an aggressive Hibs team, were far superior to them, and made many more chances (20 shots, 7 on target compared to their 3 and 2).

The ref could have awarded 2 pens (I thought Christie’s was the stronger shout as it affected his cross whereas Bauer was fouled after he had played the ball) but he also could have sent off Ntcham for the hand to the face.

Overall, I think we were more at fault in leaving 2 points behind than the ref was but, there is no hindsight management required. Ntcham deserved his start over Rogic, given his recent form, and James has played much better on the left this season than he has done previously. Neither of these significantly affected us; we remained far superior to Hibs in all aspects bar the most important. Goals scored.

I know Sevco closed the gap today. The majority of fans were pleased with our Ibrox showing but no-one was claiming that the league was won that day and, neither have we lost it today.

There will be darker days ahead but I still believe we are on a good course at present and have not reached the stage whereby other Scottish teams are sussing us out and nullifying our strengths as has happened at various times in recent seasons.

So far, we have been very good. Hibs just got lucky today.

  2. SETTING FREE THE BEARS @ 5:49

I enjoy your posts and admire your positivity and optimism. While in overall agreement, I have a couple of nitpicks. The lack of drop off in effort is not universal. James Forrest, often maligned on here, and often our match winner, did not exert himself in the slightest when we lost the ball in his vicinity. I watched him carefully, and, in contrast to his midfield partners, made not a single tackle while he was on the field, and appeared to deliberately slow down each time it looked as if he would reach a Hibs player prior to his releasing the ball. Forrest has a lot of talent, but to me, he could do so much more for us if he emulated Christie, Brown and Hayes in this aspect of the game.

My second nitpick is the continued lack of improvement in our corners, and our crossing, particularly from the left side of the field. The number of times the ball was ballooned out of touch was disheartening, as it happens on a weekly basis. Christie, in Griff’s variously explained absence, is apparently our best corner taker, yet he persistently gets his direction, velocity and elevation completely out of whack. While some of his corners today were adequate, others were hit so high and so far that it was impossible for even our twin 6 ft 5 in lighthouses to reach them.

As a previous winger, whose defensive team mates would unmercifully excoriate him if even one of his corners was not within easy reach, thus wasting their trip upfield, I find Celtic’s continued inability to come close to the standards of Tully, Gallagher and Moravcik (Just for example) rather dispiriting.

    Nitpicking all done. (for now)

  3. Interesting result today, as mentioned this morning, didn’t get a chance to see the game.

My thoughts at the beginning of the season were Rangers had a strategy to thwart the Nine!!

They could not have a first team as good as ours, so they built a squad of two fairly equal first teams. Neither is not a patch on our first team, but both are better than any other eleven in Scotland.

They were planning on being more consistent than us over the Season and winning their Ibrox games agin us.

Of course it wasn’t only their defeat at Ibrox at our hands that rattled them, it was the nature of that defeat… in the light of that game how can they be confident of taking significant points off us.

That said I did think they’d be more consistent than last season and that’s how it’s panning out.

Of course, we are also more consistent, as SFtBs says another blip at Easter Road hasn’t changed that.

Hope all is good not saw you on as much, maybe your just enjoying the fitba so far … accounts are a bit like stats and you could probably dissect in any way to suit … but they are there in black n white … profit / loss, incoming / outgoing … will leave that to the experts but again at leat they are out in the open to be dissected :-)

Doing good, hope all’s fine in the ‘Brig!!

I posted a little while back that I’ve not had the same opporchancities to post recently (which actually is nothing new) and also was tired if sounding like a broken record and was going to accept the direction of travel and just enjoy the football this season:))

Think you’re being a bit disingenious with accounts being like stats…

If you mean the quote from that legendary chairboy… “lies, damn lies and statistics.”

There are very clear policies and standards when accounts and financial statements are produced or audited. Especially when it comes to PLCs.

When comparing to past company accounts it is normal to use the previous year. Not look back to what you think maybe a poor past year, accounts wise and choose that year. That is so random and dissembling.

Also what was the criteria? In the year P67 chose to compare was not like for like, we…

Failed to have Europe after Christmas

Failed to reach a Cup final

Had an average attendance under 45K

All it does is remind us how bad things were going before BR and how quickly we’ve returned to a downwards trajectory.

In fact the only thing I can see these years have in common finance wise, was we sold a top quality player for a fraction of their worth.

And are they out in the open? How do executives earn their bonus and how is it paid? I mean last year Rangers were a third of our size, this year they’ll be half… how much should we be paying our guy for that?

    BANKIEBHOY1 @ 8:18 AM,

Chairbhoy……..good to see your take on the “takings”…………….

    :)

Yes, think Mr P67 goes for tongue in cheek irony now… pity really, we used to get sublime “dissection” of the figures at one time on this site. It’s now sadly a parody.

    Hail Hail

  4. We actually played some brilliant football in the first half. Not as good in the second half, apart from last 15 minutes. Hibs scored with a total fluke. We were very unlucky not to take all points today (I include two penalties not given and other poor refereeing as unlucky). Bayo again looked good when he came on though I’d have kept Eddy on also. Boli excellent in second half.

Your not the the first poster on here to describe me as being a bit “disingenuous” something that has never been attributed to me outwith pages :-)

I still stand by what I said and you can turn the figures to whatever way suits your take … and I think your quite able at that … not a criticism just an opinion

Personally I don’t really care about the accounts, balance sheets and board stuff … it’s probably my downside to CQN that I even comment on it

  6. Just had a bit of a lightbulb moment. Our competitive season began on 9th July. Today was our 18th game and we’re still in September! We’ve only lost once. Surely one of our best starts to a season EVER? Don’t worry, be happy……..

  7. Celtic should be pushing for VAR for next season or even after the January break.

The other clubs will shamelessly resist this for as long as they can.

Problem will be that the SPL weill implement it like the EPL has

  9. I didn’t think we were good enough for the 3 points today.. too many players not “at it” … I honestly think lunchtime kick offs are terrible … even in the promised land of the premiership lunchtime kick offs are rubbish games

So glad our semi final is a 5.30pm kick off … football should always be played at no earlier than 3pm… in fact the later the better … bin the lunchtime stuff … but apart from that Clancy is a cheatin wee Tim …

  10. Read back and it’s obviously just me, but we didn’t beat a piss poor Hibs team today.

I know we had two stonewalls denied but our set up was all wrong.

This desire to play Ntcham will cost us, as it did today. Christie and Forrest have been on fire so what do, play them out of position.

Love Neil but today he got it wrong.

  11. INIQUITOUSIV on 28TH SEPTEMBER 2019 6:37 PM

Re corners… Watched the game with my boy, we both expected a wasteful cross everytime we got a corner.

Surely this can and should be addressed at training,.

We seem to have sorted out ball retention from throw ins (shys for the oldies) the problem needs sorted… Be it a short corner or whatever.

  12. Gutenberg 9.45pm

Ncham is a terrific player but trying to shoe horn him into the team has cost Neil in two games so far Cluj at home & today … but Hibs defended very well today …. and I thought until he got booked Ncham was the best player in the park

But we might have been better without him … no logic at all in this post :-)

  13. GFTB

Ntcham is a superb player but if we play him then trust him and leave out either Scott or Callum.

Otherwise, use him from the bench where I think suits him best.

  14. Gutenberg 10.02pm

When the team was announced today I think NorrieM questioned who would be in the “10” slot … hindsight is terrific … we move Ryan who in my opinion might not have Nchams ability but he is far better going forward & tracking back … it’s good for us to mump & moan … when I saw that team today I was delighted … but sometimes we need to play not the best players, but the players best for that position …

Am never too downbeat and a win against Cluj will make this week no the worst :-)

  15. YOGIHUGHES on 28TH SEPTEMBER 2019 4:02 PM

I cannot understand all this criticism of Calum Mcgregor. He was the best player on the park today. He lost the ball once. Every move went through him. There are too many sheep jumping on the bandwagon.

    ================================================================================

I thought McGregor played well as did Christie, albeit in more of a chasing role.

I know it not fashionable to say so,but neither Eddy nor JF turned up,neither looked interested.

Jonny Hayes put in more effort in the time he was on than those two combined.

  16. GFTB- Christie should be played as our further forward MF,great finisher, and pace to get beyond a striker

  17. GFTB

We’re all great managers from a distance but I didn’t like the starting team but was well impressed by the bench.

Flat performance but still convinced we started wrong. And the bench didn’t work too.

  18. Jobo,

I followed your instructions last time and they worked a treat.

Any chance you could repost? Thanks in advance :-)

Total agreement … taking Christie out of that position actually weakens us in so many ways … again I was delighted with Neil’s team selection today before a ball was kicked … from now on get RC in where he can do damage going forward and also help in defence which he is very good at

  21. FRED C DOOBS –

timing is everthing as I’ve just logged on!

    As requested, hope this works…

Been meaning to say (since I returned from Lanzarote), a HUGE thank you to EMERALD BEE for some fantastic advice on improving access to CQN on my phone, tablet and computer.

For anyone on a windows laptop that’s still having issues with slow loading pages, etc then what I learned was how to switch off Javascript solely on the CQN page. The only downside is that with certain links that are posted you sometimes need to turn Javascript back on before the link will open. Although, right clicking on the link and choosing the ‘open link in new tab’ option often works fine.

So, to turn off Javascript on CQN (if using Chrome as your browser) then it’s –

    > Click on the 3 wee vertical dots at the top right corner of the screen

    > Click on Settings

    > Scroll down and click on Advanced

    > From the list that then appears select ‘content settings’

    > From the next list that appears click on Javascript

    > 3 options then appear – on the one called ‘Block’click on ‘Add’ and then type in ‘www.celticquicknews.co.uk’ [THIS IS PROBABLY WHERE A MOD DELETES THIS POST!!!]

And that’s it – simples! My limited understanding is that Javascript is then disabled but only on the CQN site.

Thanks again Emerald Bee. Site access on phone and laptop for the past 5 days has been ‘just like the old days’ ;-)

  22. And the real reason I wanted to post was to say that, so far the amount of votes cast (from 22 folk) for each of our 14 players against Hibs are as follows –

    16, 14, 9, 8, 7, 7, 2, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0

But who have received the votes??? Clearly the points are very much up for grabs.

  23. Interesting, I couldn’t come up with a MOM.

Christie for scoring, though he was poor overall, but he scored so

  24. Regarding VAR – the SFA cannot even enforce grass pitches so god help us trying to get VAR the deserts that we have to visit on away games.

It won’t really matter in any case because when Scottish referred referees hang up their aprons, guess what they will become………VAR Judges. We will have the first VAR system in the world with ‘nothing to see here Timmy, move on’ feature!

  25. The Huddle 10.39pm

    Man of the match ?

For the first 60mins Ncham had a great game … Bauer didn’t do much wrong … BUT head n shoulders above them all … Broony was magic, when the Hibs centre forward was looking for a touch for a penalty … Broony waltzed in and took the ball for a wee mazy in our box … sometimes it’s not that obvious but our Captain is actually pretty brilliant :-)

    Scotty Brown – MoM

  26. All,

What seems to be evident from the votes submited so far is that we didn’t really have anyone todsy who performed well from start to finish. Instead, our better players flited in and out of the game, having good 15 -20 minute spells then disappearing for a bit. Overall, 6 wins and and a draw is a very, very good start to the league campaign.
